We at A.I.R. have decided to accept this story in our currently running Summer Luvin’ Contest in spite of its title.

Good luck Miss T. Although I don’t think you’re going to need it...

Read my list again, Box. I'll piss him off by NOT doing anything he complains about. He'll pop a gasket.

Tx, my attitude is fuck with his head.

So scouries, you're saying that you can and will except anything in your fake contest even if it's not on theme. That it's not what it is but who it is? WOW! and you say Lit's contests are wired with cheating. Not only do you and you alone get to pick your fake winners but you allow anything you want in your fake contest.

Way to go there scouries, you've now hit a new high in lows or rather lies. No fairness at all. I'll even bet she has no idea her story is in your fake contest or even that you have a fake contest.

I'll even bet it wins something one way or the other.

Talk about bullshit of the highest caliber.

But in his contests, everyone gets a hug.

An icky, gross, call-the-cops-and-file-a-restraining-order hug.

>sigh< These threads are always more interesting when there's more talk about stories and less griping about what's his name. I guess a bump's a bump?

Anyway... I'm a bit unclear about the whole multiple entries thing. Sure, I could read the rules, but it's easier to just ask... I get that it's okay to submit more than one entry. How many of the seasoned people do that and what's your thought on the idea? I'm not necessarily seeing the personal advantage, but I'm probably missing something.

Been trying to get back to writing... the girlfriend and I finally have our move more or less done, and I have my own office in which to write, and at last I have my own office chair back.

So here's my conundrum:

*I have a fantasy (swords, sorcery, skimpy outfits) story in mind that involves a goodly deal of sexy fun, but I'm not sure how "summer"-ish it is. Conversely, I feel like the world-building part of it would be pretty easy.

*The other story I have in mind involves a bastardization of medieval-tournament meets Roman-gladiatorial-games in a post-apocalyptic Seattle (may be apocalypse-via-magic), which seems to me like a lot of fun, and more easily "summer"-ish... but that's a lotta world-building, and I haven't figured out where the "erotic" part comes in yet.

So now I'm stuck.

Darn it.

Last year I had all of two or three people make commentary as to what my sword-and-sorcery story had to do with "summer," and yet that has stuck with me ever since. And now that I'm looking at this contest again, I'm still stumped on that issue. It's such a vague theme, y'know?

Bucky, I'm certainly not one of the "seasoned people", even though my handle is French for tarragon; I prize my salty wit and peppery disposition, and write when I have the thyme, while dispensing sage advice, and reading other people's stories about cumin. Now that I got that out of my system, several writers make multiple submissions in themed contests. SilkStockingsLover and DG Hear, MFG, had multiple entries in recent contests. One of DG's multiples placed in the V-Day.

If you have more than one good story, on theme, by all means send them into the mix.

Hey, Hey, Mind your manners. That is if ya had any. Ladies are always Ladies at any age. Well, until they prove otherwise, that is. ;)

The rules changed to disallow chapters, because so many entries were chapters of continuing works. Multiple entries that are stand-alone stories are still allowed.

I have entered more than one for a single contest. Once I start thinking of ideas to fit the theme I can find dozens but only a few get to be completed stories. Rather than wait for next year's contest, but which time I'll have dozens MORE plots, I'll submit all the completed ones. That way, I'm rid of them. Once I have posted a story I can forget it, and move on.

Given the massive total of members of Literotica, there are really only a few entries to each themed competition, and multiple entries don't make much difference. If there were 1,000 entries, or 10,000 entries, then banning multiples might make sense.

I like to experiment with my stories. I can enter a normal story and an experimental story in the same contest and watch to see what the rating and responses are. Despite my three Ws, I have not won a contest with a story. My winners were essays.

Entering a themed contest gets more attention for your work. I have written non-contest stories, and poems, that just sink into obscurity without a single vote, or wait months for any attention. That is disheartening. But a contest entry will get noticed - so I'll write one, two or more - because like all authors I want people to read my stories.

Thanks ogg, all good points. I always thought it was an interesting wrinkle to Lit's contests. Makes sense from a Lit point of view (%age of readers/% of writers) and I can see the advantages to attracting readership. Hadn't occurred to me to pit an experimental story against a normal story. By the way, what's a normal story? :D

I would find it easier to define an experimental story.

Some of my experimental ones (link in signature):

Breathless Stargazing
Getting Nude With Chairman Mao
Just So Elephant
White Scut

and my various 15 x 50-word stories.

Yes this is the same old tired argument all our AHers use to justify entering more than one story and jumping to the head of the line ahead of everybody else. The “since only a few of us are doing it, it’s okay” line followed by the “but if everyone else did it we’d have to ban the practice”.

The old “let me put all my shit in the contest” argument “but heaven forbid writers I don’t know doing the same.”

As to your “there are really only a few entries to each themed contest” line you know its a crock as do everyone else reading this thread. Quite frankly there are far too many stories in the contests now and because of you multiple enterers the quality has fallen so low that good authors and discerning readers have deserted these themed contests in droves.

So we are left with cut-and-paste recyclings with the fewest readers winning these contests... oh and I’m sure your twisted view of these contests can somehow come up with a justification for the “least viewed” story winning a contest supposedly decided by the reading public...

More spewed shit, scouries? With more stolen images?

Why don't you write a story and try to win a real contest?

Just to get us talking about writing and not about other stuff:

When you're inspired for a story for this site, do you find that you usually come up with a plot situation first, or the erotic situation? Sometimes I find that I'm inspired for one and then the other comes along later, and it tends to flip from one to the next as far as which comes to me first.

I'm clearly having that sort of conundrum for this contest. My more interesting premise doesn't seem to have a lot of sex to go with it at first glance; I'm sure I could find a good erotic situation or angle for it, but it's not there on the front cover for me.

Anyone else often have this trouble?

When I'm writing for this site, I'm always concious that I'm writing for a site where I think the average reader is looking for erotica. Not all my stories feature wall to wall sex, but most of them do.

As far as ideas for a contest, I need the combination of story, sex, and theme before I'll take the time to write to story. I forced it with my Nude Day story and the score for Nude Day Races show it. I thought Wilderness Wildness, but Earth Day story was a better story.

To me, Summer Lovin' feels so wide open, it should be easy to find a story idea with lots of sex that fits the theme. I'm dreading the Halloween contest because I either fall into thinking about trite stories dealing with masks or horror stories with little sex.

For me, I start off with a theme or a scene which I find exciting, and then I build a story around that. For instance, if it's a guy feeding from a lactating woman, then I think, "How would this situation come about? And what happens after?" Before you know it, you have a story.

I do the same thing for contests. I think about the theme and try to build something around that.

"I think erotica is a nice word for pornography and erotica is an accurate word," she said. "It means you're putting it in writing, and in my case, you're not using vulgar four letter words, you're using the King's English to the best of your ability... But it is pornography -- it's meant for sexual pleasure."

This site in particular has helped me quash the feelings inside me, borne from a lifetime of hearing 'authorities' say that sexual pleasure is bad. Compared to, say, the pleasure you get from eating good food, or watching sport, or playing Chess.

I still can't understand why TV stations can broadcast wars, violence, kidnappings, beatings, and crime in general, but either do not show sex at all, or if they do in a very mild form late at night. I mean sex (per se) is about the only thing that doesn't hurt you.

I've been working on a summer-themed story which is kinda wild, but hey, it's just a story. A fantasy. It didn't actually happen nor do I wish it did to real people. After all, no-one thinks that people are actually murdered when filming Sherlock Holmes, nor do they wish for people to be murdered.

My first draft is complete!! For once I left myself enough time to go back and do a thorough edit and rewrite if necessary. Is it relevant to the contest? Well, it's set at the beach, so yes. ;)

For contests, it's usually the plot, since it needs to fit into a particular category. For other stories, the erotic situation usually comes first. I keep meaning to write a story that consists only of the sex, but once I get rolling on a story I usually find there's a lot of other stuff I want to include.

This good question keeps swirling around in my head. Interestiing replies, too. It occurs to me I'm often thinking about how I want to write the story, too, which harkens back to Ogg's comment about submitting a regular story and an experimental one. I'm willing to say nearly all my lit stories are experiments in tone, POV, etc. So I guess I need to add that to my criteria of how I come up with a contest themed story.

ScouriesWorld asks that you show some respect for your fellow authors and more importantly for our readers.

Give us your best shot in the contest - but only one shot. Simply put your other stories in the regular line with every other story. What right do you have to jump the line? Why do you want to clog up the contest entry list and cost every other aauthor reads?

It's simply not right...
