The Official Authors' Hangout Halloween 2022 Contest Support Thread

Anything already submitted and authorized will appear on the date it shows for the publication to go live. Probably tomorrow, as that is when the contest officially opens.
Laurel didn't give us a "Go live" date, but she said "You can begin submitting on (or before): September 30" which is Friday. My story goes "live" on 10/01 instead of 09/30. I'm guessing because it's also an Amorous Goods entry which has a go live date of 10/01

If you check your Halloween contest entry it is probably still sitting in Pending but it is no longer marked "Pending" but now has a nice orange NEW tag and has a date of 10/01/2022. They'll all be released from the gate on Saturday.

🎃
By jove you are right 👍. It's jumped my log jam!

Well, I stand corrected, then. However, a new writer who asked for some help on entering the contest told me she had a go-live date of 9/30/22. Thus my statement.

Just be glad that you didn't submit a poem, you might have to wait for Thanksgiving.

And how!

I've never had a poem sit in Pending this long. It's not even any good; I just submitted it to make sure the formatting would work from GSuite for my Halloween story, but it looks like the Halloween one will end up being the test case.

I submitted a short poem days prior to my Halloween story and it's still pending. Good to hear you have the same issue because I thought my submission was held up for being a limerick.

Not on the 29th, unless your contest slug didn't take. The first contest stories won't post until the 30th.
I think you're wrong. I believe the stories will begin to appear Friday. The reason is the contest story the woman entered was her first posting, but her second story went live four days after she posted it (a week after she posted the contest story), and her contest story said new with the date it goes live as Friday, September 30ths Tuesday this week. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

Now tell me I'm wrong and explain how I'm a dumb bitch, talentless, brainless, and that I'm 12 years old, so you feel better. Be sure to be cruel and demeaning. If you aren't, it just won't be you at your best.

Be sure not to wait to see what happens after midnight tomorrow.

Why are we arguing so nastily about this crap?

They'll post when they post. If it's on the 29th, awesome. If it's the 30th, awesome. It doesn't matter even slightly, as long as it's the same day for everyone.

This need for people on the internet to "always be right" is so annoying. This is a support thread. Let's support the people who are excited that their stories are going up, no matter what day it happens.

Because he gets mean to me whenever I share an opinion, not in line with his own.

Take the high road. Don't let people press your buttons.

Besides, what do you care? If he disagrees, he disagrees. Whatever. We'll know in about 30 hours who's "right," at which point people can gloat if they feel like it.

But I'll be busy reading absolutely awesome Halloween stories.

Who is the "we" who is arguing about this? What is the argument? The first posting of stories will be Friday, September 30th. That's the date given in the rules provided. September 30th, 2022, is on a FRIDAY. (And that's the posting date given on the entries I've submitted so far.)

If someone says their Halloween 2022 contest story is posting on 29 September, why isn't it a good thing they're told the contest stories don't start posting until FRIDAY. September 30th, so they can get their story into the contest if something has gone wrong? What is mean about that?

Show me where I have posted anything about this that wasn't being polite and helpful. Other than this explanation, prompted by your post, what arguing have I done on this?

There was a reason why your post wasn't the one I quoted. No worries.

I'm sure they post Friday. But if they don't? I don't see why it's worth anyone bickering, and I'm confident you don't either.

This sounds like fun! I first read about the Halloween story and was clueless until one day it came to me. My fingers were on fire. Then 2 weeks of editing and tweaking it, sigh.
That's exactly what happened to me with the Geek Pride event. Me? Geek? I sneered as I adjusted my taped together glasses and prepared to fire up my X-Box. Unbeknownst to me my muse was behind me with a Louisville slugger and was silently opening a cage full of ravenous plot bunnies...

Looks like Laurel updated my story with a 9/30/22 date and while it still appears in Romance, you get an error when clicking on it. Hopefully everything is fixed up and cleaned up for opening day tomorrow. Many thanks to Laurel and Manu!
I've asked so we shall see if I get something happening...I'm not hopeful!
