Charles R. Smith does a column, Cyberwar.

Talks a lot about this subject and has been for some time.

The Chinese are actually quite open about their war plans. Just no one here paying any attention. Typical.

Agreed that Americans don't pay much attention to what's going elsewhere....any thoughts on why that is?

TELEVISION

We have placed our culture in the hands of that segment of humanity least suited to intellectual thought, script writers...

;)

Works for me...

TV - The Great Satan and seller of soap, all hail Armon Hammer...

Scary Thought

I haven't read anything but the first line of this thread and have to comment. I have a what if question. OK, I'm sitting here saying "Great, we got the guys", but God forbid, someone is out there saying "Damn, well how many did they kill, bet I could do better than that." I don't think this is the end of this and it is definetly NOT winding down".

God help us

I don't see a lot of copycatting on this one...

We didn't have a lot of Columbine-style outbreaks for instance.

This is an individual breakdown of some sort, not a societal breakdown.

The USA has hundreds and hundreds of grizzly random slayings every year.

It's already a brutally dangerous armed country anyway, always was.

The "new thing" is non-Americans getting in on the random killing action.

And that seems to be what's scared the good ol' US of A more than anything.

The last grisly slaying here was like 1860 when a bunch of Bushwackers from Misery came over to Trading Post, rounded up a bunch of KANSAS Freedom Fighters, a noble bunch, took 'em up to Mare de Cyne, threw 'em in a ditch, and shot their slave-lovin' asses...

It wasn't REAL random though the shooting was as several members of the party survived.

The next terror attack will be...

Al Quaida sending an immature and hateful troll to terrorize the GB by cursing, ranting and threatening people here.

Oh wait, that already happened.

whatever it ends up being, it's gotta be bigger and better than ever before. the wtc set the standard for modern terrorists.

this is a marketing/media-driven world and if you want to get noticed, if you want to get people to wake up and smell your cause, you gotta think big. Half the people who saw Titanic, according to polls, did so because of the hype about the most expensive film ever.

just look at moscow today. 50 Chechen rebels holding 700 people hostage in a theatre, willing to blow up the place if Russia doesn't pull out of their country and stop the war.

THAT wouldn't have happened a year and half ago.

I swear these groups have hired marketing consultants that work out strategies for how they can get noticed....

so, whatever the next one is, it's gonna be big. the dam busting scheme, if I were a terrorist, would be spectacular.

Actually, there were several Columbine copycats. They just didn't have the same kind of weapons that Klebold and Harris did, so they didn't kill as many people.

I'm starting to think that this will be like Vietnam, only the battlefield is everywhere.

Nothing can repeat Vietnam....

Different value system here..for now. Until we have mothers hollowing out their babies for explosives, I'll stick with my position.

*New stuff:

(AP) - The FBI issued a warning to state and local law enforcement nationwide Thursday about a possible attack soon against transportation systems, particularly railroads. Officials said the warning, based on information obtained from al-Qaida prisoners, suggested that terrorists may try to take out bridges, key sections of tracks or train engines in an effort to cause derailments and widespread damage. "Information from debriefings of al-Qaida detainees as of mid-October indicates that the group has considered directly targeting U.S. passenger trains, possibly using operatives who have a Western appearance," the FBI said in a statement.

Weeehoooooo! :D

I dunno...driving around with your underage son in an old chevy with a firing port cut in the trunk doesn't sound so far from guerilla warfare to me.

Remember, you heard it here first....

Acid Rain barrages followed by systematic Hoof and Mouth Disease outbreaks. They'll finish us off by spreading mad cow disease everywhere. Never forget, our food source is our life blood.

I think they just want your SUV and your blonde sister.

So you're saying real deep down, we all have a lot in common. Glad to hear it. Too bad I ain't got a sister to offer.

My but this is a sick thread.

BUT, a bandwagon is a bandwagon! I'll take "Something New and Different" for $300, Alex.

-Drinking water contamination is too hard -- the plants are guarded and alarmed, and getting enough of a chemical into a reservoir to do any hard would involve several tanker trucks of VERY dangerous stuff. Not a job for semi-pros.

-Power grid is sexy, but it doesn't really hurt people. Killing makes a psychological impact, no Must-See-TV, contrary to what we've been told, does not.

-Dirty bombs have been sort of the "new black" in terrorist fashion since the false alarm in Moscow, back in the early 90s. Still, getting spent material is harder than it sounds, and satellites can see any decent concentration of it.

-Subway Gas attack -- what, like those religious nuts? Allah demands better. (No offense to Muslims here -- I am trying to be as generally offensive as possible, clearly.)

-Bus bomb. As in a suicide bombing on a bus, or a bus filled with explosives? A stolen bus would get noticed.

-Hazardous waste. Not too bad, but chances are a good explosive belt in Filene's Basement could kill more people.

Right then. First off, it's not going to happen on US soil. I'd picture a car bombing outside a US embassy. It'll only hit the gate, but if it's morning arrival time, they'll expect to hit someone important.

The next foreign terrorist hit on US soil will probably be either a train derailment, or a standard-issue suicide bombing. I'm surprised none of these organizations have yet recruited a US citizen over the internet and done this one already.

Of course there is always the chance of another domestic terrorist attack. Timothy McVey all over again. Political centrism promotes fringe dissent. A lot of people out there believe that they KNOW the TRUTH and that no one is LISTENING to THEM! We have a lot of these anti- 's on my campus. People against, for instance, capitalism, military spending, agricultural exploitation, genetic engineering and so forth, who aren't really FOR anything in particular. And this makes me nervous. The ultimate children of Postmodernism with nothing to stand on -- nothing to be FOR.

There's a lot to be worried about out there. I suggest going for a walk, forgetting it all, and getting laid by someone you like. Just a thought-

Yes.

In China they want Google.

In Iran they want Baywatch.

This is not my beautiful house.

Same as it ever was.

During The Blitz in WWII, a LOT of babies were made...

Actually my sister-in-law is swedish, so she does have blonde hair. My bro and her went on holiday for a month in Morocco DEC 2001. They were followed around a lot and them having a trunkfull of Moonshine during Ramadan created some attention. They are a country of 30million thieves but 99.5% are petty criminals. The biggest problem came when 8 year old kids would set up makeshift toll booths. She's nuts and they were driving an '83 Volvo 240 they bought for $200. She just ran the terrorists-in-training off the road, problem averted. Fighting during Ramadan will either greatly ease the war or exacerbate it, I think we should just shoot Thunderbird and King Cobra outta the tanks. They'll love us forever and burn all the mosques.
