We were bored the other night and popped it into the VCR. I thought Julia Roberts could act. What happened?

See I thought Pitt wasn't up to par in that one either. He was much better in Snatch and Fight Club, seems the crazier the character, the better Pitt's performance.

He does act those type of roles well... snatch and fight club are on my top ten list of films... probably top five too...

Kalifornia, True Romance... even Meet Joe Black for crying out loud...

he's actually a good actor.... just a shame a lot of people can get past the fact he's pretty.... and nearly 40 :D

An Oscar!?!

Nobody that's won an Oscar for the past 10 years can actually act.

Julia? The Cologyn has gone to her brain. She's too busy stealin' married men and harrassing their poor former wives.

I popped in K-PAX last night. I'm willing to bet that the phrase "E.T. meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" popped up at least once in the pitch meeting.

Dixon: Just saw Spy Games. Think the phrase "Butch & Sundance meets Never Say Never Again" came up in the pitch?

The Mexican really was a gawd-awful mess. It's pretty sad when two of the highest paid stars in Hollywood are getting upstaged by a Brando impersonator, bit players, and a prop gun.

julia roberts
sarah jessica parker
juliet lewis

can anyone tell me what these three women have in common?

Dix, I hate to say it, but it IS true...

Dixon your so jaded.

We all must see different things in a movie - I thought that "The Mexican" was kinda neat - the stories within stories, etc. I am not an American Movie Star junkie - i.e. Roberts & Pitt usually are to cute for words, but The Mexican itself was the true star, so I enjoyed it.

Well, Julia Roberts hasn't acted well, in a movie that I've seen anyway, since she made Flatliners, which everyone was good in, though Kiefer Sutherland stole the show, no question. Pitt is a good actor, as Fight Club by itself will prove beyond question. That movie had a life of its own.
However, in defense of both, the film was poorly written, the lines were as lifelike as those in a Kevin Smith movie. i like Kevin Smith (Dogma, Chasing Amy, Clerks, etc.) but his dialogue is tough to deliver, written for content and not delivery.
Roberts and Pitt did what they could with their characters, but there was nothing really to do with a whiny idiot (Roberts) and a stupid wannabe crook (Pitt).
The dog was cool, though...

Wait. DCL - you truly believed that Julia Roberts could ACT??

Oh, I get it - it's a joke! :D

And what the fuck was up with America's Sweethearts?

I think Julia Roberts was really good in Stepmom and Steel Magnolias.

Her acting went downhill from Steel Magnolias, although Erin Brokovich was quite good.

I actually enjoyed both films. I thought they were pretty well done, and weren't too "Cookie-Cutter". But I came away with a big "So what?" after each.

There are movies that live forever, and movies you enjoy, but never need to see more than once.

Anyone want a couple of videotapes that are about to get very lonely?

Erin Brockovich...not to be rude, but I was so disappointed, I haven't got the words to say it accurately...
I expected a film about a woman who uses her own personal strength to help in a good cause...
I got Julia Roberts' cleavage (not a bad thing, but not fitting in this case) and her flirting to get what she needed. That's not a good representation of a female empowering herself in my opinion.

I'm a Julia Roberts fan (adored Notting Hill,Steel Magnolias,Pelican Brief, and My Best Freind's Wedding!!) but even I thought she was crappy in The Mexican. She and Brad Pitt (god he's yummy!) had no chemistry at all. Also, I didn't think either of them were right for the roles. They just weren't believable. Both of their characters were a bit dimwitted and one dimensional. Very boring. James G. stole the movie.

There is something brutally sexy about Eric Roberts and yet something a little sad too. Sort of a bad,bad boy in need of a little love and understanding. I'm SOO attracted to that type of guy and I've got the broken heart to prove it.
