The Metrodance Guidelines for New and Established Posters.

Technically we are all nobodies here and this is nowhere. Are you saying some are more nobody than others? I thought the original post was fun to read and gave me an interesting perspective of the idiosyncrasies of this board. As a new person, it never occurred to me that I needed to adapt any of my posting style to comply.

You seem like somebody to me.

New people reading the thread may not understand a bit of context. Metrodance started this thread the day after she registered, which led many people to think she was an alt.

Ah, I see. But the astute are able to see patterns quickly. Merriweather does the same. If one comes to the board with an untainted eye, without history, it is much easier to see those patterns. One firmly ensconced in Lit may not see the forest for the trees.

Speaking of which. I have to trim a few trees.

I did think it was a quick jump on me, myself.

I never thought she was anything but herself, and it reminds me, we need sexy-girl back.

Wow, I'd have bumped more old threads if I knew it would cause this much trouble.

By the way, I miss Sunny and Debbie and JP and sexy-girl.

It's not you, it's your totally sexy avatar that stirs everybody up.

sequelae:
"Technically we are all nobodies here and this is nowhere. Are you saying some are more nobody than others?"

I have no-body, but I am not a nobody. Everyone has an identity within the community, and some are more prominent than others.

"I thought the original post was fun to read and gave me an interesting perspective of the idiosyncrasies of this board. As a new person, it never occurred to me that I needed to adapt any of my posting style to comply."

Stay here long enough, and you'll break almost every rule. It's more a matter of how much and how often than it is do or do not.

I do, but at the same time, I don't really understand what the fuss is about. Its not like you have to become a member to read, only to post. I think the realization that comments here have a wider viewing audience makes certain posters uncomfortable.

Only if they know me in real life and that's unlikely...

But, that's just it. You say that it's "unlikely" but there is still a small percentage of you that considers it. I think there maybe more than a few that would be uncomfortable and being reminded of it takes them out of their safety zone, thus the hostile reaction to new posters. You can't say some of the things on a porn board you'd like to say, unless you know that you are safe to do so. The whole concept of someone out there reading, just for the sake of reading is scary. Add that to the current situation with the runaway alts and the paranoia is understandable. This creates a culture of social McCarthyism, where everyone is suspect. It's easier to prove someone is a communist, than to disprove. When you have so many sockpuppet posters, what do you do? This is the curse and the beauty of the internet. You take it on faith, or you don't.

With all due respect, I admire your psychology but I think you're giving way too much thought to the reasons behind the hostility. Plain and simple, people are just snobs when it comes to anyone that would seem to challenge their status and senority (or perceived superiority).

In other words, while your theory is feasible for a few I say most of the hostility is due to insecurity about their own status, like the bully on the schoolground and the new kid in school...

Stop talking down to me and give me the respect due. I am a man and you are merely female. Borat has conclusively asserted you have smaller brains and thats good enough for all us men!!!!!!!!!

With due respect, I believe both of you are off-base.

My opinion is that the perceived hostility shown towards newbies by the General Board is little more than a ritual vetting process, a juvenile hazing and/or traditional newbie bashing - for the sake of newbie bashing.

Few newbies who show red on their first night, long survive on the GB. Those who roll with the posts and show some humourous spunk (ofmg, kbate said spunk!), usually have a chance of lasting.

The GB newbie bash - serves the purpose of ridding the board of many of those who cannot spell, cannot understand grammar, and cannot tolerate anything but the somewhat revolting niceness that pervades the playground and Ampics forums.

But as usual - I could be wrong. <-- for the backpedal thread.

And classified under intimidation. I think it jumps the gun to have anyone prove their mettle and is more a justification for the bullying...

Now say spunk! again. And this time with some passion. Like you just spit it out, nasty and vile as it is :D

Bullying happens, but normally only with those who arrive expecting to find a community of spunky women who will webcam, or who are interested in having man spunk spewed onto pictures or in fact are interested in anything but porn.

The people who arrive and join with a well-composed intelligent post are rarely bullied and only vetted lightly.

Now I feel dirty and must wash.

also, it often helps uncover alts by revealing those who know a bit too much for someone who is really new.

so long as their opinions and ideals don't go against the majority, or the "regulars" so to speak... if you go against anyone in any of the cliques here, no matter how valid your point and no matter how funny or interesting what the person says is, they are outed.

I have to agree with Image, personally

Matty, is that you?

Matty, is that you?

He could have written that, but he would have done it in an angry tone. I miss old Matthew, he kept people on their feet and from time to time - was actually worth a look.
