For you soccer fans. The Men In Red came back from a three goal deficit to tie AC Milano in regulation and then won a shootout after overtime. Making up a three goal deficit has never been done before in a Champion's League final. Incredible!

Liverpool wins Champions League title in historic comeback against AC Milano

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) -- Liverpool won the European Champions Cup for the first time since 1984, mounting the greatest comeback in the final's history to beat AC Milano 3-2 on penalty kicks following a 3-3 tie Wednesday night.

Liverpool won the title for the fifth time, scoring three goals during a seven-minute sequence early in the second half.

``I don't think anyone has seen a game like that. I cannot believe we've just won,'' Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said. ``People will talking about that game in 20 or 30 years.''

In the 50th final of European soccer's top club competition, Liverpool became the first team to overcome a three-goal deficit. It was the highest-scoring final since Benfica defeated Real Madrid 5-3 in 1962.

``We played a good match. We had six minutes of craziness,'' AC Milano coach Carlo Ancelotti said. ``It was something which can't be explained. It's not the moment of regrets. We are sorry, embittered, but this is soccer.''

AC Milano captain Paolo Maldini got the first goal in the first minute, at 36 becoming the oldest player to score in a final. Hernan Crespo added goals in the 39th and 43rd.

``We were talking at halftime about how we need to do something and change things, if we can score it will be different,'' Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard started the comeback with a goal on a header in the 54th minute off a cross from John Arne Riise.

``The manager said at halftime to keep our chins up and to try and score early. I think that was the turning point,'' Gerrard said.

Vladimir Smicer made it 3-2 with a low shot in the 56th, and Xabi Alonso tied it in the 60th on the rebound of his penalty kick, which goalkeeper Dida had sprawled to save.

The game went to 30 minutes of overtime, and Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek stopped Andriy Shevchenko twice in the 118th minute, first saving his header, then blocking Shevchenko's shot off the rebound.

Serginho put AC Milano's first penalty kick over the crossbar, and Dietmar Hamann converted his. With Dudek bouncing back and fourth on the goal line, he dived to his right and batted away Andrea Pirlo's kick with his right hand.

Djibril Cisse put Liverpool ahead 2-0, Jon Dahl Tomasson converted for AC Milano, Dida dived right to stop Riise, and Kaka tied it for AC Milano. Smicer then gave Liverpool a 3-2 lead, and Shevchenko's kick down the middle was saved by Dudek.

``At halftime, I thought I was going to be in tears at the final whistle,'' Gerrard said. ``It's hard to sum up how good I'm feeling at the moment -- I'm just on top of the world.''

It was the fifth title for Liverpool, the first since its fans rioted at the 1985 final in Brussels, Belgium, causing the death of 39 spectators and leading to a lengthy ban from European competition for English clubs. Under current rules, Liverpool won't be able to defend its title because only the top four teams in England's Premier League qualified for next year's competition and Liverpool finished fifth.

Oops, yes, I was gonna post a thread about this!

Fucking awesome match.

Congrats, Liverpool! Simply brilliant!

I had watched a few minutes of the first half and saw it was 3-0 at half time. When later on I found out Liverpool had managed to pull back into it and win, I couldn't believe it! Wow. Well done indeed.

By the way, I think that what the English FA is trying to do is disgraceful to the home of football. Everyone knew that no country can have more than four teams in the Champions League. There was even a precedent, in 2000, when Real Madrid won the League and qualified, even if they finished 5th in the Spanish Liga. The team who finish 4th didn't make a big deal out of it, because they knew from the start that their qualification was conditional, and if Everton was under the assumption that finishing 4th was enough, it was their problem. Still, the English FA had every right to choose the 4th-placed team over the title-holder, just like the Spanish had choosen the title-holder over the 4th-placed team. The shameful thing is that the FA is trying to make it seem as if it's UEFA's fault that Liverpool isn't going to defend the title next year, instead of assuming their choice; they're trying to blackmail UEFA into giving them a 5th spot in the league, saying, "Here. We're sending you Everton next year. And if you want to have the champion defending your precious title, cough it up."
