Many states ban fireworks.

Here in Texas the law is schizophrenic.
Fireworks are legal exactly two weeks of the year:
  • December 24th through December 31st
  • June 27th through July 4th

Currently listening to a veritable artillery barrage each night.

Note to Que: "veritable" is defined as "being in fact the thing named and not false, unreal, or imaginary —often used to stress the aptness of a metaphor a veritable mountain of references."

I survived the work day. One more to go. Then the weekend. Hopefully a long one. We'll see.

i didn't intend to waste my day watching the living shit out of travel man, but i did it. thanks, hulu. it's nice to see the fuckers in order and not mixed with random clips and/or other random british tv shows of varying quality on youtube.

anyway, back to jon hamm being all charming and shit in hong kong.

Aliens came to the city tonight and I missed 'em cuz I was underground in the subway when it happened!

This was not the simple pop of a transformer

An explosion and fire at a power station in Astoria transformed the night sky over New York City into a strange turquoise light show on Thursday night.

A spokesperson for FDNY tells Gothamist that the explosion was first reported at 9:13 p.m in the vicinity of the Con Ed station on 20th Avenue. Since then, the fire department has received "several different reports of a flash of fire lighting up the sky, some sparks and crackles, a lot of things," the spokesperson said.

"The ominous plume could be seen in all five boroughs across the city, and is reportedly causing scattered power outages in Queens. LaGuardia airport was temporarily shut down, though power appears to have been turned back on at Terminals C and D

"According to the MTA, there are "extensive delays" on the 7 train as a result of the explosion."

so like a big transformer explosion.

first time i ever saw one it scared the living shit out of me. i believed in aliens for about half a second. what made it worse is i was the only fucker who saw it in a car full of four people who were too busy talking to notice a blue sun come into existence for a brief moment just behind them.

so, yeah, i thought i was going mad. it was great fun.

There's a lot of posted videos over it on Twitter. Some of 'em are really amazing to watch. Nothing but pure blue in the beginning, then it goes white-red like the Eye of Sauron.

Ghostbusters, Independence Day and Thor: Ragnarok gifs are having a resurgence. :D

Had one blow right across the street from me. It was on a pole in front of the neighbors house. Just a big boom out of nowhere and a light show unlike anything else and then no power. They fix 'em pretty quick tho so that's nice.
There's a substation just a couple blocks away and part of that blew one night. Holy fuck, it was like the world was ending. Shook the house and everything. That was fun for a second.

My New Years resolutions are lame. I need something good like climb Everest or fuck Anna Kendrick in the ass or become president of the NRA. But no I got lose 20 pounds and get a new car.

That does seem schizo, but makes some sense in a warmer climate. Also, why not extend the dates a day? I suppose there are noise restriction laws that would be enforced after midnight.

Those are the dates for the sale of fireworks. Posession and usage depend on the county/city and burn ban status. Theoretically, if you live in the country and it there is no burn ban, you can set them off whenever your heart desires.
