So many are asking what getting rid of them does.

My question is what does keeping them accomplish? Especially in such numbers. Over 1500 in the US - most of them in the south.

I live one hour away from the Lacolle border. Do you realize we have received over 3500 Haitians seeking assylum from the United States, in the past two weeks?
No that is probably not on your news.

We are setting up tent cities and putting them up in the Old Olympic stadium.

There are more coming.

A few months ago we had Syria.

They are running from Trump.

We worry about the refugees coming in.

About North Korea.

About Russia.

About the instability of Trump.

But we focus on changing monuments and street names.

All those things suck but it doesn't really answer the issue at play here. What does keeping them accomplish?

The US government can't handle climate change, women's healthcare, balancing a budget or even financial regulation. But they can come up with National Donut Day. That's par for the course and business as usual.

History. I am proud of my hometown and a majority of Boston feels the same way. Bottom line.

Never a complaint before. Why now? Really?

I like how sometimes people will upload songs to Youtube and they'll write "No copyright infringement intended", and I just think, "I'm not sure you understand the concept of copyright or intention".

I am pretty sure we don't need to change history. By changing street names, renaming buildings, removing monuments, what does that exactly do?

The Confederate flag yes. KKK propaganda yes. I agree with that.

Everyone gets a trophy mentality.

One could say that monuments that honor the losers are the definition of everyone-gets-a-trophy mentality.

Different awareness and sensibilities? It can be seen as a step in the right direction, something that is possible to change when the broader issue is so large and changes are made much more slowly.

Did you know butterflies can die of heat stroke? Don't know why I thought that was relevant, but, there it is.
i did not. the ones here are far more likely to deal well with the local climate than i am, though, so i'd be gone before them :)

We are:
People who want to live in happier times,
Waiting in the shadows, watching,
Wanting it all to go away,
or come together.
:rose:
sometimes
you have to step out into the light
raise your voice
be a presence
to counter those bringing the dark

well, thanks. but go ahead, you and Butters split it. might take me awhile to get there.
well we all lost out because his mother snaffled it :D she made it, so i'm not complaining. :D

The statues of lee belong in the graveyards of fallen soldiers. Let them form committees to see what happens. Gardens at the site. Benches. A place where people can peacefully speak. New statues will be erected. Hopefully not one on top of each other. That would be tacky. War Museums. It's best to retire while ahead. At the end of your road is the kkk.

im pretty sure there are always people afraid of change

Yes.

Putting up the confederate statues was an attempt to change history.

Yes!

stop stopping for food when you fucking know you're going to be coming over around supper time, you stupid cunt.

They bought butter, didn't they?

Asshooks.

Why reinvent the wheel?

Asshooks do not have that light, dangly, swingy effect.

Tomorrow I'm having a me day. I have one obligation to talk with a volunteer about content on the new website and that's it. The munchkins are in school, no more 6:00 am swim practices. I'm keeping the phone on silent and only responding if it pleases me, or to folks that reside under this roof.
