Victor smiled as Kynthia fell asleep, she was in pain but her sleep seemed to be untroubled and calm. He almost laughed when she snored, even that endeared her to him more. Walking through the forest he though of how crazy the past few days had been. He was human a few days ago hunting the wolves of this forest now, he was part of their pack and something more than human. His wolf growled at him from his mind, and he smiled. He wondered if Kynthia felt her wolf like this or if it was due to him growing up without it. Clearing the woods, he stood in the shadow of the castle. The sound of howls and the pain in them scared him as he cleared the last of the trees. He clutched his charge tight and bolted toward the doors. Entering the great room he stood slack jawed at the circle of wolves before him.
In the center of the room was the body of the Elder, even from the door he could tell he was gone. The battle must have taken his life before the wolves got to him. Kino was in the corner, his ears pinned and his whines melted into the others. Laying Kynthia down on the rags where they made love earlier he called Kino over.
"Kino watch her."
The pup nodded and Victor turned and shifted into his wolf. Walking toward the Elder he was joined by Lupin. The grey wolf looked pained, but Victor doubted their scuffle was the cause.
"I'm sorry Lupin, I tried to save him."
"I know Alpha, Kino told us how you fought and what the Elder told you."
Victor almost missed it but the word Alpha seeped into his mind and gripped him. He beat Lupin and became the second, then the Elder died. That would make him Alpha, the leader of the pack. The weight of all the wolves lives under him weighed on him, but he couldn't show weakness not now, not ever.
"Lupin, what would the pack do with the Elder's body normally?"
"When the old Alpha dies, the new one and his mate eat's part of the old's flesh, then they share the body with the pack. Wolves do not waste, and by eating the flesh we hold all of our elders inside of us. Victor wasn't sure about eating someone he had spoken too, but the pack came first, and he was bound to them as much as they were bound to him now.
"Prepare for the ceremony, we will wait for Kynthia to wake up, she is resting from the bullet and will need some more time to heal. In the mean time, gather the best fighters and prepare for an counter attack, we will whip out the village soon. Scout the castle and the grounds, look in every nook and cranny. We need to e safe here untill the village is taken care of.
Lupin stared at him for a moment, Victor tensed prepared to fight for his position once again, then Lupin nodded and turned away form him. He heard the wolf issue his orders to the rest of the pack and they dispersed, searching the grounds.
Walking to where Kynthia laid, he noticed Kino cruled up next to her. He sat next to the pup and looked down at Kynthia. She was healing but he still worried about her wellbeing, aparently Kino did too.
"She will heal, I removed the bullet and she just needs rest."
Kino pinned his ears and gave him an odd look, before returning to Kynthia's side.
"I hope so, Kynthia always looked our for us pups, she played with us and kept us safe."
"She cares for the pack, and I will do everything I can to protect the pack and her."
"You better."
Surprised by the pups ferocity, and conviction Victor smiled and put his paw on the pups head, playfully pushing him down. Leaning to Kynthias ear he whispered to her.
"Rest my mate, but we have business with the pack soon, your mate and the packs Alpha calls to you."
