Cromwell had a better chance of being a royal than Orange John has being elected for a third reign. The House GOPs are split three ways: Tea Party, Mom-and-Pop Fiscal Conservatives, and the rare moderate Republican.

What are the alternatives? Cantor? If the Teabaggers actually bolt and nominate one of their own, would that be the end of the GOP? I don't know the rules--is it a simple majority? Could the Dems elect Pelosi if the Pubs split?

Iirc, each party choose a guy first. So the pubs can't split per se. A handful would have to pull a Specter, break with their caucus and actually vote Pelosi.
