The Elf Princess

Ashton raised an eyebrow, pondering the idea. He honestly couldn't find a reason NOT to be around her all day. So he told her as much. "Honestly, I couldn't think of a reason to want to be away from someone so beautiful."

Sebeen's crystal blue eyes opened wide in surprise and confusion.

"Well, Father can explaine the job better then I can. You see my body guards are many but they seem distant and a little well for like of a better word afraid of me. I do spend many hours alone as Father is very busy running the kingdom. There is a statue in the throne room of a personal guard. It is a beautiful on and it appears the two men are always together. That would be impossible for us as I am female and you very much a male, you are so big and tall.

Well speak to Father and then tell me what you have decided.

Ashton smiled, then nodded, before taking a sip of water. He yawned slightly, realizing he'd need sleep soon. "I don't mind, honestly."

Sebeen could tell he was tired just as she was. She smiled at him.

"Why don't you take a nap, you will feel better later. I am tired also, I had a sleepless night. I will go to my room now and leave you to your rest. She turned and walked gracefully to the door. She was very sleepy indeed and a bit dizzy.

"see you later"

She opened his door and went straight for her own room. When she got there she unzipped her dress and let it slip to the floor and crawled into bed pulling the sheet over her body and laying down. She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Ashton set the glass of water back on the stand beside the bed, then closed his eyes and laid back on the bed, as a maid came in and covered the windows with thick curtains. He yawned, and quickly fell asleep. His last thought was of her.

Sebeen's sleep was deep and her dreams pleasant. She moved to her side in her sleep and her sheet slipped off of her. Soon she would be awake again but for now she was at peace.

Ashton awoke that afternoon, and stretched. He got up, and did some exercises, doing pushups and situps on the floor, before going out to find the bathroom.

Sebeen slept deeply, rest she needed badly because of the long disturbing nightmares the night before. She shivered in her sleep as a cool breeze reached her nude body. Her breathing was slow and relaxed.

A crash out on the court yard brought her fully awake. She looked about the room as her mind had registered the sound. Once she was awake there was no going back to sleep. She got up into a standing position and stretched.

Her first thoughts were of Ashton as she wonder if he was awake. She thought of how handsome and well built he was. Very unmaidingly thoughts, not the typical things she thought about. She shook her head an her golden hair fell into place over her shoulders and down her back. She decided to take a bath and walked gracefully into her bathroom.

She turned the tap on and adjusted the water and added her scents and a little bubble bath. She gathered up her shampoo and stepped into the large bathtub. She rested her back against the back of the tub and closed her eyes. The bubbles in the water caressed her body as she made a little sound of pleasure.

Ashton found an empty bathroom, and smiled, examining the facilities. Then he moved over to the toilet, quickly relieved himself, and washed his hands. He noticed they didn't have a shower, so he figured he'd have to have one installed somewhere. Wouldn't be that difficult, but he needed a shower, since they got people cleaner than baths.

As the water began to cool, Sebeen washed her hair and then her body. She pulled the plug and released the water and stood up. She stood up and stepped out of the tub and towel dried herself. She stepped into her room and opened her closet door. She pulled out a yellow dress and put it on. She went back into the bathroom and started to brush her long golden hair in front of the mirror.

When she was done she walked gracefully to the little table and picked up her flute. She left her room and walked hrough the castle and out the door to the courtyard. She sat on a small stone bench and began to play the flute. Soft soothing music filled the air.

Ashton quickly bathed, scrubbing himself down and washing his hair, before getting out and towelling dry. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, then stretched, and pulled his clothes back on. He went out of the room, and then headed downstairs, planning on going for a walk.

The melody that Sebeen was playing was an old folk song of the elvin clan that she belong to. She closed her eyes enjoying every note of it. Music to her was like capturing a different kind of magic. She could play her flute for hours.

As she played she wondered again why a human would want to be an elf's personal guard. It was a curious thing. Her Father had seemed happy when she had agreed to this and she wondered about this also.

Ashton followed the sound of a flute played beautifully. He walked out into the courtyard, and saw her sitting on a bench. He himself carried a very neat toy in one of his pouches, a pocketable keyboard, with full capabilities. But he didn't have that with him, and he doubted he could play as well as she was. He walked over to stand behind her, listening to the music.

As Sebeen finshed her song, she brought the flute down to her lap and opened her eyes. She stood to stretch and turned to see the man behind her. She smiled at him.

"Did you have a good nap, Ashton"

Ashton nodded, then smiled. "You play beautifully. I have some musical talent, but not nearly that much."

She smiled at his compliment. Her music meant a lot to her.

"Thank you Ashton, what instrument do you play? If you have it with you, we could play together"

The bench was between them as she spoke and thought of a simple folk song that they could play together.

"Did you speak with my Father to find out what a personal guard's duties are yet"

She walked over to a longer bench and sat down.

"Why don't you sit down awhile so we can talk"

Ashton blinked, then shrugged. He didn't think he could play nearly as well as she could, of course, but he couldn't very well refuse her. He reached into one of the pouches at his waist, and pulled out a rolled up bundle. He unfolded it on the bench, revealing what looked like a picture of a keyboard. He pressed a button on it, and a slight humming sounded before vanishing. He then tested out the keys, practicing for a few seconds, before smiling at her.

Seebeen was amazed at his instrument. She watched him get it set up at first she thought he was kidding her. But then his hand ran over the thing that looked like a picture and beautiful tones filled the air. She couldn't get over it and couldn't resist touching it. Sure enough, at her touch music filled the air. Her crystal blue eyes caught his.

"That is amazing, I have never seen such a thing. Is is difficult to learn how to play it"

She ran her fingers gently over it testing the different sounds it made.

Ashton watched her, and grinned. The instrument was indeed a marvel. The technology that created it was the same as the Indestructible Keyboard used for computers. He thought how best to explain it to her. "It uses fiber optic technology. Essentially, threads of glass that transmit light. The keys are tied to tiny little buttons, and each key pressed emits a different tone. It's a portable piano, in effect."

Sebeen listened and looked into his eyes.

"This is truly a marvel, it has a beautiful tone"

She touched it gently again enjoying the sound. She moved closer to him to reach some more keys.

She lifted her fingers from it and looked into his eyes again.

"Very beautiful she murmered, I just have one more question before we play. What is a piano"

Ashton raised an eyebrow at this question. The piano was one of the oldest instruments in the world, and she'd never heard of it. He pulled out a book, and opened it, flipping through the pages, before showing the image to her. It was a grand piano, complete with the top open. "It's an old-fashioned instrument with keys that manipulate wooden hammers to hit strings. The strings make the notes, through vibration."

Sebeens shoulder touched his as she looked at the book and saw what he called a piano.

"It is a beautiful instrument, we do not have anything like that in the elfin world. Oldest instrument in your world and it is so beautiful. Someone must have taken very good care of it. I would like to see your world some day. I have never been past the confines of my Father's lands. Let me explain the tune I think we should play together. At special occasions, the maidens and young male elfs are aloud to dance together. This tune is the one that they dance to. The dance is simple enough. I will show you"

Sebean stood up and lifted her skirt a bit so he could see her slippered feet.

"Now, it is heel and toe, heel and toe, step with your right foot bring your left foot to the right one, step with the right again and again bring your left to the right. Then heel and toe, heel and toe, step with your left foot and bring the right to it twice. Let me show you"

Sebeen did the steps slowly in front of him.

"Then at this point the young male places his hands at the maidens waist and lifts her and then sets her down. They have their hands together like so"

Sebeen put her hands into his and slightly raised them. She let go of his hands and sat down next to him again.

"Now what makes the dance exciting is that you play the tune twice at a slow pace and after that it keeps speeding up until it is quite fast. Now here is the tune"

Sebeen played the song for him and kept playing it slowly until he joined in. He followed her very well and soon she knew he had it.

"Shall we begin.

Ashton raised an eyebrow, then nodded, closing his eyes and slowly playing the tune. He soon increased the tempo of the song. He was a quick study, but the tune was a little unusual to him. He let her lead him, and then smiled as he felt he had the tune down pat. He wondered briefly why she had decided to teach him such an important song.

Sebeen led Ashton into the tune, she liked the sound of his instrument oppose to her flute. Soon she could tell he knew the tune well and she upped the speed of it. They continued to play until the song was quite fast and then she upped it even faster. When they finished she started to laugh.

"That was fun, wasn't it, can you imagine keeping up with that tempos but they do. I love to watch them moving faster and faster. When they stop everyone is breathless including the music players. Everyone laughs as it is such fun. When I was a child my Father use to dance it with me after my Mother died. But when I became a maiden I wasn't allowed to do it anymore. Only matched couples and children are allowed to do the dance and now I am neither"

She smiled at him.

"Would you like to play it again or learn some new tune"

Ashton smiled, then started to play a tune from his world, from pop culture. He played as if he had been playing piano all his life, but he still didn't think he was as good as she was.
