The large densely grown redwood forest was home to an ancient race of kitsune who protected the land and ensured it's continued growth. It was simply known at The Great Forest. Nestled within the center of the forest is the kitsune city, the buildings built within and around the trees high above the ground. Built on the tops of four trees, positioned to mark the four points of the city, North, south,, east, and west, is a shrine devoted to the gods of the kitsune.
The Northern shrine was maintained and led by the Hitoma family, a family of five, which included three daughters. Their youngest was Karumi, who was in the position of warrior-priestess, a guardian for the shrine. The rest of her family was the priest and priestesses of the shrine. This shrine was devoted to Dodola, goddess of earthen fertility and rain.
Karumi sighed softly as she leaned against the railing of the balcony, looking out over the forest. A cool night breeze ruffled through her many tails while her eyes remained closed to just enjoy the calmness. She was still wearing her shrine outfit as she had been on duty that day. It had been a busy day, but it had been slow for her duties. She did have to help clean some throughout the day, but her duties as guardian were boring as always. Oh she did enjoy the position, as it gave her excuses to show off for the ones who visited her training and magic. She did want to actually put her skills to proper usage, but her parents didn't want her to use them in such a way unless absolutely necessary.
She opened her eyes after a few moments, looking down at her chest. There was a soft green glow that shone through the white fabric on her right breast, faintly recognized as circular shape. It didn't bother her as this had been something she had gotten when she was much younger. Looking up from the glow, she sighed once more as she wished for things to be a little more exciting, but not too much. The last excitement she had was a month before, the day that marking her 120th yearly cycle. That day had been filled with fun and excitement as many, many people came to celebrate her transition from teenager to a young adult.
