The Elf Princess

She turned to the fountain again.

"I wonder how they did it, do you see the detail of the statues and the urns. I did not know we had stone workers among our people"

She thought for a moment.

"I think I will have a drink of water"

She turned and walked gracefully to the fountain.

Ashton examined the stonework, then grinned. "You don't have stonemasons this good. The Dwarven race does, though."

Her hands stopped their downward plunge into the water as she turned and looked at him.

"The Dwarven race, who are they and what would they be doing on my Father's land"

She looked at the water.

"Do you think the water is safe to drink"

Ashton grinned. "According to legend, Dwarves were the greatest metalsmiths and stonemasons ever. Long ago, they were allied with Men and Elves, and many other races as well."

She listened to Ashton and then looked at the fountain again.

"So you think this fountain was made a long time ago then. It has resisted the damages of the ages. But what of the water is it safe to drink"

She looked at the water, it looked clean and was clear but was it safe.

Ashton shrugged, then stepped over, and took a cup out. He dipped it in the water and then dropped some powder from a vial in. When it became clear blue, he smiled, and sipped at it. "It's fine."

Sebean blinked her eyes in surprise as he took out a cup dipped it into the fountain and dropped some powder into it. She watched it turn blue and then clear. She watched Ashton drink it her mouth slightly opened.

"Do you always carry a drinking cup and blue powder"

She had wandered closer to him to watch what he was going to do. She looked closely into the cup and then up into his eyes.

"What was that powder"

Ashton grinned. "Powdered herbs. If the water had been unsafe, it would have turned red."

"Oh"

She looked at him in amazement.

"You have such wonderous things in your world Ashton"

She walked back to the fountain and cupped her hands and plunged them into the fountain. She brought her cupped hands to her lips and drank deeply of it. She splashed some water on her face and drank some more. She hadn't know how thristy she was until she had drank. She shook her hands when she was done. She whipped the droplets off of her face with her hands and turned to Ashton.

"Shall we continue"

She looked around amazed.

"We are to the center so quickly, I thought it would be a long time before we reached it. It must be enchanted as when I stand on my balony and look at it, the maze seems to go on for miles.

Sebeen had a look of disappointment on her face. She had expected to have a long adventure and it was already over.

Ashton shrugged. "The maze is enchanted by druids, I'd say. The idea behind it is to prevent people who mean harm to end up going around for centuries."

"Hmmm, I wonder why my Father did not want me to come in here, it would seem that I couldn't possibly get lost"

She looked at him and smiled. She walked closer to him.

"Shall we go back then"

Ashton nodded, then smiled. He led her back towards the castle, keeping his eyes closed.

Ashton held her hand firmly as he lead her out of the maze. She was watching closely where she was going so she could go there on her own when Ashton decided to leave.

As they walked throught the hedge, Ashton took them around the wall and they were back in the garden.

"Thank you Ashton for a wonderful adventure, although I wish it had lasted longer"

Ashton smiled, then looked at the sky. "Didn't realize it was so late. Supper time, I'm thinking."

Sebeen looked up at the sky and nodded, he was right it was time for dinner. As they walked throught the garden she realized he still held her hand and she smiled to herself.

"Have you decided if you are staying or will you be leaving"

She looked down as she realized that his answer was important to her.

Ashton smiled. "It's been a long time since i've had a place to call my own."

Ashton hadn't exactly answered her question so she pressed on.

"Have you decided to take the position of personal guard to me"

She kept her eyes downcast and a blush crossed her face.

Ashton smiled, and looked at her. "I think I could stay here. It's a nice place, actually."

Sebeen stopped and stood in front of him.

"You know you never seem to answer my questions"

She was annoyed.

"You never seem to answer my questions, Ashton, why is that"

Ashton raised an eyebrow, looking at her. "What do you want me to say? I could say lots of things, but most of them wouldn't be appropriate."

Sebeen's eyebrow raised she found herself getting more then annoyed with him and she couldn't seem to calm down.

"What do you mean not appropriate, to answer a question is appropriate. Oh, you are making me angry"

Sebeen tried to walk away from him but found her hand was still held firmly in his.
She looked at him her eyes flashing.

"Let go of my hand"

Ashton smiled, looking into her eyes. "Not appropriate to tell a woman of your station."

Sebeen was getting frustrated and it showed in her face.

"Listen, I want to know what you want to say, my station grrr, you are so annoying, now let me go if you cant talk to me then you cant be my personal guard. I get that from everyone and now you"

Sebeen was not quite angry.
