Dark, that could be. "Previous versions of Firefox have public security problems. You could be exposed to viruses, phishing, and other attacks by running old versions." Think they are just trying to scare people away from doing it? Well, I'm chancing it.
That's the standard line. There may indeed be some security enhancements that can't be patched into older versions, but safe browsing habits easily overcome that. From what I'm reading, the new version of Firefox has some built-in features to better interact with antivirus programs and the like, which is where they get the vulnerability to phishing thing.
Just finished the first scene of a new chapter, meeting a goal, so I'm diving into your read-through, BTW.
