The Earth Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Dark, that could be. "Previous versions of Firefox have public security problems. You could be exposed to viruses, phishing, and other attacks by running old versions." Think they are just trying to scare people away from doing it? Well, I'm chancing it.

That's the standard line. There may indeed be some security enhancements that can't be patched into older versions, but safe browsing habits easily overcome that. From what I'm reading, the new version of Firefox has some built-in features to better interact with antivirus programs and the like, which is where they get the vulnerability to phishing thing.

Just finished the first scene of a new chapter, meeting a goal, so I'm diving into your read-through, BTW.

DG Hear, don't get rid of Kipper! He's so cute and every time I see your AV, I smile and have Kipper stories running through my head :)

My grandaughter was a big Kipper fan when she was little. We have most of his books and videos. I even bought myself an original kipper stuffed animal as well as one for my granddoaughter. I sometimes have it setting next to my computer when I write. Thanks for the note. For now he's still there as my AV.
haha

Sweeps all over the place

I thought I'd been swept before, but I think almost ten votes just got sucked off mine. May not seem like much, but I currently have 56, so it's a pretty big chunk. If only my vote average reflected the sweep; I think it rose it up a whopping .03 points.

Pretty certain I'm not going to place, although I am currently above the average :) Not even going to get the coveted red H. But writing the story was the most fun and the quickest I've ever finished a short story, erotic or otherwise, so I'm probably hooked.

I just hope Nude Day is low on trolls; right now I have a low tolerance for idiots.

The very subject matter of the theme isn't automatic troll-bait, so that's something to look forward to.

They'll at least be irrationally foaming at the mouth about something you wrote ( Maybe... All bets are off with some critters, like the LW trolls, militant homophobes, and wanna-be Klansmen ), rather than the theme itself :D

I've lost more votes also. Probably 30 in all. Still have around 600+.
Trolls come out for all contests. It's just one of the things we have to put up with. I hate to say it but trolls are usually other authors and those that hate certain types of stories. They go out of their way to bomb stories they most likely didn't even read.

Diggypop: If your story went up .03 after losing 10 votes, that's pretty good. There have been times I've lost 100 with no change in score. I've lost 30 and was surprised to se my score go up .01.
Good luck all as the roller coaster ride has begun.
Yahoo!!!

Looks like I've lost about 15 votes, and my score went up .03 or .04 although I'm not quite sure of the time line there. I have to stop checking the stats. I'll drive myself nuts.

Well, when you roll out of the gate with hundreds of votes compared to the dozens most of us get... :p

It takes quite a few swept votes to tweak the average when you're dealing with numbers that large *laugh*

Roller coaster indeed. This is my experience with the sweep so far:
Started at 1487 votes:
- lost about 40 with gain of .05
- an hour or so later lost about 100 with a loss of .02
- later (not sure when as I looked the next day) lost almost 400 more and down .10

Now down a total of 529 votes and .07 down on score.

See, this is why I shouldn't follow the stats -- I have about 275 votes. Geez.

And better than half of the people in the contest are envious of that total.

LOL I know. I don't mean to complain really. I see all these numbers and...too many numbers. ;) But I do appreciate you putting it all together.

Just sorted the list by vote totals ( as of yesterday ) and make that 6/7ths of everyone else in the contest is envious *laugh*

On an aside, the new Hubs have the most recently accurate scores available ( outside of our own author-only-viewable lists, of course ) in the "recent new stories" section. Unfortunately, it only displays about a half dozen of the most recent stories in the category, making it useless for tracking.

The listings at the bottom of the story pages are just about as up-to-date for comments and favorites, with the views only updating a couple of times a day at best.

Interesting that some of you can check your stats at all. I haven't been able to get to my submissions page or the stories since late yesterday.

Just keep refreshing the page. It will eventually load after throwing the "bad gateway" error a few times. When it doesn't pop up immediately and you get a "waiting for Literotica" in the status bar, kick back and wait. It should eventually load once you see that.

It's something everyone should be aware of for the time being, though. Make sure you keep your tagline and everything firmly in mind ( or written down ) when submitting stories. It may very well crash between filling in the form and going to preview, or going from preview to final submit.

Thanks. Clicking the refresh worked.

It seems to be working alright now. I had no trouble getting here a minute ago, even though I had a lot of trouble earlier. :)

All seems to be well for the moment, but I had a hell of a time getting the page to load on Monday when I was submitting my Earth Day story. Then it worked okay for a couple of days, but came back even worse than before last night.

Until we've had more than a couple of days of consistent performance, I'd still be wary when submitting stories, and prepared for the possibility of the page crashing.

I had the identical problem on another, similar site on Monday--so it may be a bigger problem than just Literotica.

I mentioned in another thread that I had an oddly similar problem while going to add a new post to the blog on my website. Luna also mentioned other sites glitching, so it may very well be some kind of gastric condition the whole internet has developed.

Yeah, I'm actually not that jealous of the amount of votes anyone gets. I'd rather have maybe 50 votes, but all of them be five stars :) Even if the competition weren't a factor, I'd rather have everyone who took the time to read my entire story thoroughly enjoy it, rather than feel they've been cheated of their time and effort.

I'm actually less bothered by the thought that someone might get offended by something I wrote -- after all, anything I find interesting is probably offensive to someone. George Carlin used to base part of his routine on taking offense at things many people just find boring or innocuous -- like golf. Sometimes it even made sense.

I use Google Chrome and I've had zero Literotica problems. Also, I'm loving sweeps so far! Up .08!

I tested in IE, Firefox, and Chrome, getting identical results. It was last night and until early this afternoon, so if you just peeked in, you missed all the "fun" :p

Here it is, the first track after a full, major sweep.

The scores, I believe, are fairly well up to date. As expected, they rose dramatically.

The new average is 4.30 and the median 4.28

Votes, I'm pretty positive don't reflect some of the larger sweeps that have happened in the last 24 hours. If my guesstimation of the update times of the toplist where I gather these numbers is correct, we'll have a slightly more accurate number for this tomorrow.

Contest stories currently have 10,292 votes remaining, for an average of 141 and a median of 65

I've observed 807 swept votes so far for an average of 11 and a median of 2.

However, 1 story actually represents 5/8 of that total, and a handful of other stories still make up the bulk of the rest. It will balance a little more tomorrow, I believe, but there's still going to be a wide gap between the average story and the most-vacuumed one.

Stories in the contest have accumulated 947,757 views, for an average of 12,983 and a median of 6,592

We currently stand with contest stories having a total of 144 favorites and 579 comments.

There was a big shakeup in the rankings, but the top remained fairly steady. I believe that when I get more accurate vote totals tomorrow, the top will actually have changed even less. The reason for this is that several low-vote stories jumped high on the list. I suspect that when I get more accurate vote totals tomorrow, a few of those will have dipped below the 25 vote barrier and leave the part of the list that is ranked.

One story did creep out of the unranked part of the list into the ranked portion by making it to the 25 vote barrier, though.

Newcomers looking at their scores today should have a much better idea of what to expect the next time they enter a contest. Your score throughout much of the contest is almost irrelevant, unless you have vote totals in excess of 300.

Trolls love to tear down contest stories, and the Lit Hoover comes by to ruin their fun near the end. Your scores go through the roof, while your vote totals plunge.

It ain't over yet, either.

It's far from uncommon for sweeps to roll through in waves from the end of the submission period all the way to the announcement of the winners. In the end, it's that final sweep only moments before the announcement that determines the winners.

Where do these trolls come from anyways? Another forum just hating on this website or something?
