The Day She Returned

Joe wished his discomfort with his leg wasn't so noticeable, but there wasn't much he could do about it. "I know. I've just.. worked so hard to try and make people understand that I don't want to be pitied, but a lot of times I pity myself. I just feel like my life might be so much more different if I hadn't lost it. Plus it makes me feel old." He shrugged embarrassed, unable to tell her that he really felt like it made him unattractive and he didn't feel like he deserved to be with someone so beautiful.

Joe felt his cheek. The kiss and touch lingered, her scent lingered. He closed his eyes and let his mind wander for a second, remembering all the nights they spent together. They were good together. Never a dull moment. He felt a familiar ache and forced himself to think about something else. Suddenly he realized he was still sitting in the car and she was waiting on him. He jumped out, still distracted. Her question brought him back and gave him something else to focus on. "Yeah actually my dad agreed so I'll be able to go into town with you. Even though I know you just want me around to do any heavy lifting I'm sure it'll be fun anyway." He smiled teasingly at her. Taking a deep breathe he grabbed her hand and held it in his as they walked towards the restaurant, glancing at her nervously.

Alana huffed slightly as he mentioned her only wanting him around to do the heavy lifting, " Darn it! How did you know? That incredibly unfair." She grinned then blinked and blushed slightly as he took her hand in his. She felt so right with him and he was only making it better. She looked up at him and noticed the nervousness that was on his face then she laughed slightly but didn't say anything about it.

They walked in Travis' little restaurant/bar hand in hand. She had a big smile on her lips that quickly faded as she realized that everyone in the restaurant was staring at them. Well, mostly her. She ran her fingers through her hair nervously and looked up at Joe a little. It seemed not everyone was happy about her return to the town and they were quite a bit unhappy that she had just walked into the restaurant holding hands with the guy she had torn apart. Her gripped on his hand tightened slightly as some of the people started to whisper to themselves.

Joe laughed with Alana and was relieved when she didn't pull her hand away from him. It almost felt like old times again. She chuckled at him when he looked at her nervously and he relaxed, same old Alana he thought. He let himself fall on step behind for a moment so he could get a look at her as she walked. Definetly same old Alana he thought as his heart raced for a beat or two.

They entered Travis' and Joe was surprised at how busy it was, Travis was having some good luck with this part of his business it seemed, the afternoon crowd must be bringing in some good money. He felt Alana stiffen next to him and noticed that everyone was staring at them. Apparently word spreads even faster than Joe thought possible, and he could tell Alana was very uncomfortable. He felt her start to slip her hand out of his as she looked at him, she the one who was nervous now. Joe refused to let her let go of her hand and smiled and winked at her before raising his voice to carry through the restaurant. "Geez! I knew I made the fool out of myself last night with my drunken carrying on, but don't all of ya have to stare at me for it!" His words made the people in the restaurant realize they were staring and the majority of them blushed and they all turned back to their meals. He took Alana by the hand and led her to an open table, pulling out her chair for her before sitting at his own, he gripped Alana's hand tighter and whispered across the table, "Don't worry about them, we're here together and that's what matters."

Alana smiled slightly and looked at him then blushed slightly, " Thank you Joe. You are such an amazing person. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here right now." She held his hand tightly then glanced up at the waiter that came over to take their order. She smiled politely at the waiter, " I'll take a Pepsi and the chicken fingers please. Thanks." The waiter smiled back at her then moved over to take Joes order.

She pulled her cell phone out of her purse then put it on silent just in case Hayden were to call. She looked at Joe as he ordered his lunch then she let go of his hand for second to dig around in her purse for a moment. " Where did I............" Alana sighed to herself then shook her head and placed her purse by her feet. In no time, her hand was back in his and she was rubbing her thumb in circles on his hand absentmindedly.

Joe wanted to lean over and kiss her. He wanted to take her in his arms right then, but he held himself steady. The waiter came by and took Alana's order, and then turned to him. "Hmmmm I'll have the special and a brew please. OH! and a chocolate shake." He chuckled. "I'm hungry" He said in explanation to Alana. Travis stopped at the table while Alana was messing with her purse. "Looks like business is pretty good man." Joe said shaking Travis' hand. "Glad to see it worked out well for ya." Travis laughed. "Well it's basically just my regulars, only now they come around for lunch and start drinking earlier. Speaking of which, take it easy on this will ya, on the house." Travis handed Joe a brew. "Thanks." Travis turned and made small talk with Alana as she worked around in her purse. Joe just stared at her in mute admiration. Travis left and Alana grabbed his hand again. "What were you looking for in there?" Joe asked, teasing Alana. He let his finger tips tickle her wrist as she rubbed her thumb on the back of his hand.

Alana looked at him with a serious look on her face, "If that was your business then I would have told you, now wouldn't I?" She grinned and laughed then pulled her hand away from his again. " A hair tie. I know I've got one in here somewhere. I just have to find it." She went back to digging in her purse then finally retrieved her hair tie. She leaned against the back of her chair, so her back arched then she ran her fingers through her hair a little. As Alana was leaning against the back of the chair, the waiter brought their food to the table and set their plates in front of them. The waiter stole a few looks at Alana and wasn't very good at hiding them. She pulled her hair into a pony tail then sat back in her chair normally. " Yay! Food." She laughed slightly then looked to the waiter and smiled as she took a sip of her Pepsi.

Jack laughed, she was always so playful, it was one of the things that had drawn him to her in the first place. He thought back to those days as she rummaged through her purse. Jack had had a crush on Alana since sixth grade. As soon as he was old enough to know what the feeling meant she was the one who he was enamored with. He would often lament that they could have had even more years together if Joe had just been brave enough to ask her out before Sophmore year. But that wasn't important, the now was important and Joe came out of his daydreams just in time to see her arch her back to fix her hair. He choked on his beer, God she was gorgeous. He shooed the waiter, shooting him a slightly nasty look for the look he gave Alana and looked down at his food. "I am starved." And he fell to his BBQ sandwich with gusto, being careful not to make a big mess out of himself.

Alana smiled and ate one of her chicken fingers while looking at him then she glanced around the restaurant a little before turning her gaze back to Joe. He was probably one of the cutest and sexiest men she had ever seen but he never saw himself like that. He knew he wasn't ugly but nothing went to his head. Thats one of the main reason Alana had fallen for him. Joe was just Joe. He never tried to impress anybody, except for Alana. She smiled then laughed to herself a little as she finished her second chicken finger.

After about 5 minutes, her french fries were completely gone and three of her chicken fingers had disappeared. She blinked some and looked at her plate, " I was hungrier than I thought." She laughed some then took a few of Joe's fries with a grin on her face. " Thanks hun." Alana blinked slightly as her started to water pretty bad, " Stupid contacts. I'll be right back. Got to run to the bathroom and correct the situation." She shook her head and laughed then grabbed her purse as she left the table.

Joe chuckled as Alana got up. He sat back in his chair thinking about the past again. He remembered the way he used to bike by her house in eighth grade hoping he'd catch a glance of her when he rode by. They barely spoke. Joe was too shy, but he was in love, even then. He remembered all the random notes he left in her locker during seventh grade that he never signed because he was scared and chuckled at the memory of the one he left asking her to the winter formal, still with no name. It wasn't till 8th grade that Joe got any confidence, when he was allowed to play on the football team. Still though, he could never work up the courage to ask Alana out. He flirted with her a lot, even hung out with the same people she did in freshman year, but he would still get tongue tied around her. He placed her in a place that he never thought he could reach, and it took a long time for Joe to convince himself he was worth her attentions.

About ten minutes later, Alana walked back to the table and sat back down with a smile, " Alright, the situation was aborted. I hate contacts. They are the worst but it's better than having the public see me in glasses." She laughed a little then finished her chicken fingers and her coke while looking at him.

Alana gasped slightly as if she had just remember something that was incredibly important. " You'll never believe what I found the other day when I cleaning out some of the boxes in my parents attic. I found the shoe box that I had all your notes in. You know, the unsigned ones all the way through senior year. I kept them all. But thats not the point. Remember that mix tape you made for me and put in my locker during freshman year. You tried to sing on it? I found that tape." She laughed a little while looking at him. " I think that was probably the best present I had ever gotten from you."

Joe smiled. "I always liked the way you looked in glasses. You were very cute in them." He reached over and took her hand, staring into her eyes.
"Great, that old box. Any chance maybe we could burn it?" He smiled at her. "I can't believe I did all that stuff. Especially the singing. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I was just smitten." He sighed. "I guess I still am." He blushed slightly and finished his beer. He smiled at her and grasped her hand tighter. "I'm really glad you decided to come back Alana."

Alana shook her head and smiled widely, " Theres no way you're getting a hold of that box. That simple box means so much to me. You were just to adorable back then. I knew for the longest time that it was you putting the unsigned notes in my locker. I did have friends you know?" She laughed softly then smiled.

"I'm really glad that you don't hate me entirely. I'm happy I came back but I'm even more happy that I'm sitting here with you right now." She looked at him and smiled with purue happiness on her face. Alana wished she could just lean across the table and kiss him and hold him but she couldn't. " I love you with all my heart Joe." She smiled then looked at the waiter as he brought the check over to them. The waiter smiled at Alana then looked at Joe and abruptly left. She grabbed the check and pulled her credit card out of her purse then set the check and credit card on the table for the waiter.

"Yeah I sort of figured you'd figure it out eventually, but as long as there was no direct link to me I could deny it if you ever brought it up." He smiled "Though when I think back of some of the things I said and did.. heh. I was pretty childish, didn't really know what I wanted. Though in the end I think I finally did get what I wanted." He squeezed her hand.
His face lit up with a smile as she kept talking. She loves me, he thought to himself. She came back for me and she still loves me. He was so distracted just feeling happy that he barely noticed the waiter bring the check. He did come back to his senses when she reached into her purse and took out her card. "Whoa there baby, this here is still small town living, it would create a scandal if I let you pay for me, he smiled, taking out his own card and pushing hers back towards her. "Besides, you drove us over here, and I'm obviously the one most lucky to be here with you."

Alana laughed slightly as he pushed her card back at her then she put her card back into her purse with a smile, "Alright. I'll get you back, don't worry. I think me being back here is already a scandal to some people." She grinned and laughed then watched as the waiter disappeared with the check and Joe's credit card. " That waiter is no where near as friendly now. Rude........" She shook her head slightly then grabbed her keys out of her purse as the waiter dropped off Joe's credit card and credit card slip from the machine.

Once Joe signed the slip, she stood up and stretched a little then walked over to Joe's side of the table so she could be near him. She looked down at him and smiled widely as he stood up then she gave a rather quick peck on the lips before grabbing his hand gently and heading outside with him.

"Well, it's a small town, a lot of people's roots go way back here, so when someone just sort of takes off without explanation people wonder about it, don't let them concern you though. The people who truly matter are all happy to see you back." He said as he smiled across the table at her.

"Well at least the food was good." Joe said as he signed the credit card receipt, his signature had always looked a bit sloppy to him, he never had a very catchy one either. He left a minimium tip, waving to Travis as he got up, he'd have to have a talk with him about that server, pretty unprofessional. Joe's eyes widened as Alana gave him a small kiss on the lips. He smiled happily and took her hand as they walked out of the restaurant. Once outside Joe waited till he was sure they were far enough outside that no one would see them and turned Alana towards him by tugging on her hand. "I know I said it in there, but I just wanted to say it, I'm really glad you decided to come back." And with that he drew her close in, kissing her softly on the lips, letting his kiss linger for several seconds before pulling his lips away.

Alana smiled as he kissed her then she placed her hands on his cheeks as he pulled his lips from the kiss. His lips were still incredibly soft, just how she remembered them. " I'm glad I came back too. " She broke away from him and tried to hide the big smile on her face as she climbed into the car. " Your dad probably thinks I kidnapped you and took you back to the city with me. " She laughed slightly then looked at him with a smile.

"About tomorrow, we're going to be leaving early in the morning, so I can either pick you up at your house or you can sleep in the guest bedroom at my parents house. Either way is fine with me." She drove away from the bar when he got into the car then she made her way back towards the garage. Alana's hand reached out and grabbed his as she drove down the roads, heading for the garage. "Joe, have I ever told you how perfect you are? " She looked over at him with a smile as she parked in front of the garage.

He smiled at her touch, her lips felt like heaven. They took him back to the past, when all his days were filled with her. He almost got somber thinking about it but then reminded himself that he was opening a new chapter in his life and leaving the last five years behind. He saw her try and hide how much she ejoyed the kiss and silently congratulated himself, fearing he'd be rusty after so many years. "My dad won't mind. It wasn't very busy and I doubt it will be for the rest of the day. I can certainly think of worse fates than being kidnapped by you." He smiled. "So since we have to get such an early start tomorrow do you want to postpone dancing tonight? Maybe do it when we get back?" He asked. "Also I think it'd probably be best if I can sleep in the guest room at your place, if it's not going to be too awkward, you know how my dad likes to sleep in on Sunday's. At least if the Cowboy's aren't playing early that is." He chuckled.
Joe was a little sad when they pulled up to the garage, knowing he had to go back to work but rather wanting to spend more time with Alana. He blushed when she told him he was perfect. "I don't think I'm perfect, I just have a wonderful reason to strive for it." He said as he squeezed her hand back and leaned in and kissed her again. "Let me know what you decide about tonight. I've got my cellphone on me so just give me a call later." He said as he climbed out of the car. "If nothing else I'll see you at your place later tonight." He waved and walked back into the garage to get changed for another few hours of work.

Alana smiled and nodded, " I'll call you for sure. See you later Joe." She sat there and watched him walk inside before pulling away and heading back to her parents house. "You're perfect to me Joe.........." She smiled as she spoke to herself then she pulled into her parents driveway and climbed out of the car with a smile. Alana hoped that Joe was going to stay her parents house tonight, she hated sleeping in that big house by herself.

The rest of the day went by so slowly for Alana. It felt like an hour was taking 3 hours to go by but it was only because she was missing Joe. She looked at the clock and realized it was 5:30. Joe should be getting off from work soon. She grabbed her cell phone and called his phone then waited for him to answer his cell phone.

The rest of Joe's day crawled, but it didn't matter. Joe was as happy as he'd been in many years. He had Alana back in his life, and even if they were taking things a little slow he could tell she hadn't changed, she was the same sweet girl Joe fell for. Still he wished time would go by faster or maybe some more people would bring their cars in, Joe felt like he was being paid to sit around and joke with his Dad and Virgil. And time went sooooo slowly. Joe thought at least ten years had passed before the clock hit five.

He was in the middle of sweeping up the shop when his phone rang. It was Alana. He smiled as he answered, subconciously trying to straight his shirt and look better, as if she could see him. "Oh hi, what's up?" He asked. "Yeah I'm just about to get off work. Probably another fifteen minutes or so." Even talking on her with the phone felt wonderful to him, "Did you decide on anything for this evening? If you don't feel like going out tonight I could just pick up a movie or something and we could hang out there? That is if it's still ok that I stay there?"

Anyone want to play the patient?

Hayden woke up late the next morning and the first thought on his mind was of the surprise patient he had the night before. She had told him her name was Sarah, but Hayden couldn't help but notice a hesitation, like she was quickly trying to make up a name. Since she was paying cash for a simple check-up, there had been no need to check ID or insurance information. "Sarah it is," he had told himself. She had also told him that she had gone to another dentist or years, but she was "feeling bored with the same ol' thing and wanted to try something new." Hayden swore that she had said it in a very seductive tone.
Now laying in bed, the thought of those long, perfect legs disappearing into that tight, oh-so-short skirt immediately caused a stirring below the sheets. From his position behind the dental chair with "Sarah" reclined into his lap, Hayden had been free to devour her body with his eyes without the chance of her catching his gazes. Her low-cut shirt showed so much cleavage that Hayden could even see her firm, flat stomach between her beautiful, smooth breasts. And he was sure that if her top had shifted just a little, her nipples would have been exposed. And then there were the legs... damn those legs!! When "Sarah" first sat in the chair, she was careful to pull her skirt down as much as possible. Still, it only came about halfway to her knees. When Hayden had leaned her chair back so he could examine her teeth, the skirt had inched it's way up her thighs. As the exam continued, the skirt got shorter and shorter. Hayden never saw the skirt move, but every time he turned to get a tool from his tray and turned back around, another inch of the sexiest legs he had ever seen were exposed. By the end of the exam, Hayden could almost make out the valley between her thighs and her pussy. Hayden had tried to imagine what she looked like under that skirt. He had decided when he first saw her from behind in the lobby that she was not wearing panties as there was not a single line to be found. "I bet she's shaved completely, or maybe has just a sexy little triangle, trimmed very short and ending just above her clit," he had thought to himself. Hayden had also decided by the end of the exam that "Sarah" had come into his office with the explicit purpose of driving him crazy. Surely she knew how high her skirt had ridden up her thighs. And anyone who's been to a dentist knows that a shirt like she was wearing would show off more than a decent amount of cleavage. And then there were her nipples. At some point during the exam, Hayden had noticed that "Sarah's" nipples had become so hard that they seemed to be trying to pierce her shirt. He was sure that they had not been in that condition earlier, and it was at that point that Hayden realized that his patient was enjoying this exam as much, if not more than she was. It was also at that point that Hayden had to try harder than ever to drop his tools, rip her shirt down over her breasts, yank her skirt up around her stomach and have his way with her.
Laying in bed the next morning, Hayden was doing exactly that in his mind while giving his raging cock the release that it had already received twice since "Sarah" had left his office the night before.

Alana smiled as she heard Joe's voice then she laughed for no reason. She was just too happy. "Yeah you staying here is fine with me. You know it is so stop asking silly. Actually, a movie sounds better then going out. But on your way here could you pick some to go from Bettys. I still want a cheeseburger from there. I wasn't able to finish my burger from the other day."

She grinned as he went to hang up the phone, " Joe, I love you. See you soon. Don't forget my burger. Nothing but pickles!" She smiled to herself and doubted that Joe had forgotten that. Alana tossed her phone on the coffee table then did a little dance in her living room where no one could see her. She was so happy that Joe had decided to try and work things out with her.

"Right, gotcha, nothing but pickles. No burger, no cheese, just a bun with pickles." He chuckled as he hung up and went back to work, he still had to finish tidying up the shop before he could take off. Ten minutes later he was in the bathroom, washing his face off and changing out of his work clothes when his dad walked in. "So you coming home tonight?" He asked. "No I don't think so, I'm going to stay at Alana's, we've gotta leave pretty early for the city tomorrow." Joe responded as he scrubbed his hands. "Well alright Son, you have a good time, just make sure you don't do anything stupid." Joe chuckled. "Have I ever?"

Joe jumped in his truck and pulled out from the garage, driving towards Alana's. He was halfway there when he remembered he was supposed to pick up a movie and some dinner. He turned around and headed towards Betty's, calling ahead to place an order for two Cheeseburgers, one with extra grilled onions and one with nothing but pickles. Betty chuckled, she knew those orders. "Havin' yourself an evening in then?" She asked coyly. Joe just laughed and hung up. He stopped at the video store, not sure what to get he grabbed a couple of old favorites they used to watch before swinging by his house to pack some clothes for the next day. Finally he went to Betty's and picked up the food. Then he had an idea. He went by the grocery store and looked around, finding what he needed. He paid and drove to Alana's, knocking on the door, hiding a bouquet of flowers behind his back.

Alana smiled widely as she heard Joe knock on the door, she was so happy to see him. She checked herself in the mirror then pulled the door open and smiled at him, " That food smells sooooooo good. Thank God for Betty's. " She instantly hugged him tightly then kissed his cheek and rubbed his cheeks a little. " I missed you."

Alana turned and walked into the house, having not noticed the flowers hidden his back. She never was any good at noticing those kind of things. She headed over towards the TV to get it setup for the DVDs since her parents only had a VCR. It was a good thing she had brought the DVD player from her apartment. " So how was work Joe?"

Joe grinned sheepishly as she opened the door, blushing when she kissed his cheek. She turned back around before he had a chance to hand her the flowers. He kept them hidden and set the food down on the coffee table as she fiddled around with the TV. "Well thanks to you work was realllly long." He smiled as she looked up at him confusedly. "All I could think about was when I was going to get off and be able to come over here and see you again." He smiled at her. "I'm sorry I'm so late, I kept forgetting things, had to go by my parent's and get some clothing for tomorrow. I also went by the store to get you these." He held out the roses for her smiling. "I just wanted to get you something nice, and it was either that or car parts." He chuckled, it felt real good to see her again. "So I wasn't sure what movie to get so I picked up a couple, I figured I'd let you choose, I got a couple of the ones we used to really like and then one new release I heard was pretty good." He set the movies down and went into the kitchen to get some plates out.

Alana laughed slightly as he blamed his long work day on her, " Thats not at all fair. It's not my fault that you couldn't concentrate at work. " She stood up and looked at him with a smile then she gasped slightly as he presented the roses to her. She fought back some tears as she hugged him tightly then took the flowers from him with a smile, " Aw Joe.........you didn't have to do this. These roses are beautiful. You always had a good eye for picking out things I would love."

She looked at the movies with a smile then she followed him into the kitchen to put the roses in a vase. She leaned over the counter and grabbed a vase from the top shelf then filled it with water. Alana put the roses in a vase then she looked over at Joe with a smile and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. " You are too wonderful. " She rubbed his shoulders some then smiled and headed back into the living room.

Once back in the living room she picked up the movies and noticed that he had grabbed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Joe knew that she absolutely loved the original and the new one was just as good to her. She quickly put that movie in the DVD player and turned the TV on as Joe got dinner together for them. It was so nice to be back at home and her being with Joe at this moment only made it even better. She loved him and he loved her. Her life could not get any better right now.
