The Construction Thread

She'll never get the hammer to work right. She doesn't have the belly to put her weight on it.

If it was a municipal job there would be one guy actually working.

Thats because all of our cities are signed with carpenters and labourer unions and if a company isn't they can't bid on municipal jobs.

Nice bit of steel though...thats good to see

I've been on that project since July. That pic was from early on in the project. The one guy is a rep from the main contractor on site, and a couple others from the media involved with taking pics and keeping a record of the progress on the stadium.

There are somewhere near a thousand skilled tradesmen on the project now and it's nearing it's deadline of later this summer. It'll be an incredible place to see not only hockey, but professional basketball, concerts, the circus and many other events are possible as well. It is the ultimate in state of the art.

The only thing that reallllly sucks about it, is the godawful name. Such a great place named after a crappy 5 dollar "pizza".

Pay the naming fee and call it what you want.

During construction the field was storage and food trucks. When the uprights went in a few of the boy brough pigskins to work and kicked field goals during lunch break.

Management put a stop to that within a day or two. What a stupid hill to die on. Let the guys have a little fun during break and they will work hard the rest of the day. Make the uprights off limits and get conduit routed thru your pvc drain pipe.

It's not Little Ceasars paying for it.. the city, state, the taxpayers.. Mike Illitch is or was, since he passed recently, the figurehead of this arena.. and undeservedly so IMO. He made a fortune making shitty pizzas and paying his employees jack shit. That doesn't make you any kind of great man, but unfortunately it makes you a great AMURICAN in this day and age.

Gordie Howe Arena... now THAT, is a great name. It'll never be LCA to me.

Many of the management types are idiots.. they started putting the seats in last week, anyone caught on them will be terminated... same goes for the precast risers the seats are bolted to... come on, yanno?

This place is very iconic.. and there was lots of sweat shed by the workers, how ridiculous to not allow anyone such small bits of glory..

SO, the corrupt gov't made a deal....

Pretty standard in MI, isn't it?

Standard in Amurica... for sure. I doubt your state is any different.

Standard everywhere.

The poor Broncos could not afford to pay for a cushy stadium and would be forced to relocate if the tax payers would not pony up for new digs.

The stadium was paid for on the backs of roads and schools.

dude don't hate.
LC has been a big part of michigan since the 60's, giving generations of kids (and adult franchisees) jobs.

besides, the family is paying out some $400M to build this arena. not exactly chump change.
