The Construction Thread

Whoa. That's awesome, but also makes my stomach want to leap out of my mouth. I liked the crane and windmill photo, too. I drove by a truck transporting a blade for one of those sumbitches - HUGE. And I like cranes. There are always so many of them downtown with all the new condos being built. I saw a big crane hoisting a littler crane once. I decided to take it as a metaphor and feel inspired.

Sorry, Rosco - I don't really have anything cool to add, but for some reason your threads just make me feel really chatty lately!

alrite there chatty cathy ;)

That looks like the top chord before they put the lacing bars on. I spent months crawling around inside one of those.

That was: March 1936 - Workers connect the first link in the 1400-foot cantilever span for the Eastbay portion of the Bay Bridge.

Do you have better pictures of the rigging on that? What's that holdback going to? Is there a derrick on top of the tower?

A derrick? Perhaps a winch. Costs too much to get equipment out to these places. But, no other photos and it seems the terra.gci.com website is currently down.
