I went to the doc and discovered that I did manage to fracture my skull. Cool, huh? But if something is going to hurt that insanely bad, it should at least sound serious right? No treatment necessary however.

Anyway, now my right eye has gone to a mix of red and sickly yellow, and the left eye remains red and deep midnight purple. I invested in physician's formula coverup. Works good.

yellow covers purple. Years of under eye circles, admittedly not this extreme taught me that. So all I had to get was the green.

Well I've always had shadows under my eyes and my kids do too. As I get older I think they are lessening. Glad something is!

I find that purple of bruises very hard to cover up though, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

I think the word fracture is sometimes misleading. If it were actaully a fracture, wouldn't her brains be falling out? Maybe a fractrure in this case mentions how the insides of her head were banged around and not so much her skull was cracked. But, I could be wrong.

And, I'd think there would be at least some form of mild concussion, in such a situation. Again, maybe I'm wrong. I'm not a doctor and I really wouldn't want to be one.

Nope. I actually have a pretty damn hard head. It is a hairline linear fracture, and as long as I am not symptomatic (no double vision, personality changes, etc.) they are gonna let it heal on its own. The only concern was if the sinuses had also been impacted... I had to have one of those nasty up the nose things to check. I hate that!

My hubby had the same reaction, he can't believe that they are not going to do something.

I am so damn tired of the cold season. So far this household has had 3 rounds of colds in the last 6 weeks. I never get sick with colds - it has been 3 years since I have had cold or flu. But not this year thanks to the mofo germ carriers who keep bringing it home to me. I am the one immune compromised due to the meds I am on right now and yet I am not the one who is bringing this shit home! Next sucker walking into my house with a cold is going to be bitchslapped into next week.

Oh and men and boys suck when they are sick - sheesh damn babies!

Also, when my oldest was a baby she had chronic strep, chronic bronchitis, and chronic ear infections. Then my sister would do things like 'drop by' when her kids had strep or bronchitis. I finally had to get really rude and tell her to leave when she did that.

You know, your sister is a real piece of work.
In this family she'd have been shipped to Tasmania or something. Or my mum would have bitchslapped it out of her.

And I totally understand the chronic upper respiratory things - I was like that as a child, if you add in tonsillitis. One of my first memories is having my head on my dad's lap, crying, while my mum put in the ear drops. She told me when I mentioned it that it took both of them because my head would shake with the crying and make her miss. Plus I liked my dad better because he was the one who brought home the ice cream and meds.
When I was a kid they didn't like to take tonsils out or put tubes in ears except as a last resort. I was told that if I got tonsillitis one more time, out they would come (I managed not to get it for a year) and ditto with the tubes and ear infections.

So of course I was scared of this happening. But what I don't get is, why would they TELL me this? It's not like I could avoid getting it, esp. ear infections! It was kind of cruel.

To this day, my brothers and I bring our toothbrushes into the bathroom, not leave them there, and also bring in separate towels, water glasses, and mouthwash. This helped as far as the "One has strep, they all get it"thing when we were younger. You might want to give it a try, Sonja.

I actually bring EVERYTHING into the bathroom, from waterglass to soap to toothpaste to shampoo. Then I can buy the kinds I like.

Have you heard of Zicam? It's pretty new, but it seems to work for me. I'm the worst patient when it cimes to a cold, and I think this one I had a couple of weeks ago was pretty much nothing, compared to the ones I normally get.

Zicam is suppose to shorten the life of the cold, if you catch it soon enough. But, I think it would still work, if you are in full blown cold. And, I was impressed with thei way it cleared my sinuses up. That is the WORST for me. I can handle anything, but if I can't brieath through my nose, I will climb up the walls.

There are a lot of different ways to take Zicam, but I took the basic nasal gel. That's the only one I can say worked for me, because I didn't take any of the other types. But for the basic cold symptoms, there are several different methods of Zicam. Then, there are some that just work on specific symptoms, too. I used the conjestion nasal spray, but I think the basic version does the best for that, too.

Anyway, just something I thought I would pass on. I feel for you, when you say you "shall be certifiable by Monday!"

Angel got her tonsils and her adnoids out and tubes put in her ears shortly after her third birthday. Her tonsils were so swollen she could barely eat. If I gave her anything bigger than a noodle she'd puke it up. She was drinking like 4 gallons of milk a week. We saw the dr a minimum of twice a month with something new. She was never off antibiotics for more than a couple of days at a time. And now she's allergic to pennicilin and keflex. It makes giving her antibiotics REAL fun.

I'm allergic to Quinolone based antibiotics (levaquin is one of the top antibiotics on the market from what my Dr. said) , Sulpha based antibiotics, and the Cycline antibiotics (yeah, Doxycyclin makes me puke violently) So that knocks out a list of broad spectrum antibiotics I can have. My grandma is allergic to penicillin antibiotics and I seem to be allergic to everything else!

I'm still sticking with the ColdFx and Sambucol, DVS.

Hmm, all the other antibiotics I know are big - you know, Biaxin, and the sulfonamides. All big pills.

I had tonsillitis earlier in the year and I actually placed one of those Chloraseptic strips right on the tonsil and it didn't help with the pain. I couldn't talk either. When I asked why it still hurt, the dr-on-call said, "That's because your tonsil has swollen so much it's depressing the pain nerve in your ear. It won't stop hurting till it goes down." He gave me Tylenol 3s. I lost 9 pounds in 5 days because I couldn't eat. I ended up buying Gatorade and Pedialyte.
When he came into the room he said, "What seems to be the problem today?"
"well, I-"
"Oh yes, the one who can't talk. Open wide."

I really like that on-call doctor. His whole approach to medicine changes on the weekend. I've been to him twice with infection suspicions, and both times he said "If we take a culture it won't be looked at till Monday, we'll get the results Tuesday, so why don't I just give you the prescription now? If it's viral it won't do any harm."
Before you go on about resistance, I take the whole script either way, and this dude has access to a truncated version of my file so he knows I'm not a hypochondriac.

But my personal favourite prescription story was when I was in university. The pharmacy where I could get the discount was too far away to deliver, and once I was too sick to get out of bed, so I asked my dad to go pick it up for me.
My dad does have a sort of professorish look about him - he has a PhD. He's also in his fifties. So he wandered in and said, "I'm here to pick up a prescription for my daughter. She's on the (name of university) plan." Just like I told him.
Well, I guess the pharmacist assumed he was one of those professors who marries their grad student, becuase she looked at him and said, "Is she old enough to take pills?" (It was for antibiotics) My dad gave her his "really stupid question look" and said, "She's 23." (He had my student card in his pocket in case they gave him a hard time)
"Oh, then she's old enough," said the pharmacist, and rang it through.

He found this disturbing/amusing enough to tell me when I got home. I laughed and threw up again.

I've often found it's the small things that are most special. A lot of times we think it's the larger than life things, the overwhelming specticals that mean the most in our lives, but it always comes down to those small things. OH, sorry...fleas are small, too.

But, don't get too dizzy with that dance. You should check again in a few days. Those buggers are sneaky and can hatch out a bunch in nothing flat and before you know it, you're knee deep in biting fleas again.

I've seen the larva...they are visible, but almost clear and so it's difficult to see them unless you are really looking for them. But, in a day or two, those squiggly things are FLEAS!

But, it's nice to hear you are dizzy and happy. Like I said, it's the small things we enjoy most.

Yeah, well Honey, I've been dizzy off and on for about a week or two, it's not just from joy. Whatever the heck this is that I have illness wise I hope it peters out soon!

I do know that fleas are tricky. I'll keep my senses on alert. In any case the behavior of the cats tends to be a dead giveaway.

been drinking cold OJ all day - the thing is, my throat doesn't really *hurt* it's just insanely swollen... like, swallowing takes a HUGE effort (what does that remind us all of?) also, I don't have a temperature (went out into the snow to buy one) but my mom tells me I could have strep without a temperature or much soreness...
