People who cite "Come at me bro" as a reason to own an AR-15 are a bigger source of concern than the AR-15 in itself could ever be.

How many armed citizens are in america? What is the current number of active duty military? How many of those active would actually fight against those they defend? Of the weapons that are greater than the m4/ ar-15, which ones would this government dare to use against its own citizens?

I used "come at me bro" in general terms. There is a line that has to be crossed. A point in which I do my best Gandolf the Grey impression " You shall not pass!" before we get close to throwing down. But believe me if it comes to that, you shall not pass. Now having owned my first AK -47 three days after I turned 18, I have never had to use any weapon defend me or mine. I pray to whatever gods maybe that I never will, but sleep in peace because if I am forced to I will. My preferred CA (and bush for that matter) rifle is the Springfield M1A, my at hand piece is a SOCOM II, because CA legal (ain't that some funny shit? LOL!!! IDIOTS!!). It's fuckin' loaded...200% combat ready and I pair it with a Springfield Operator side arm with Wilson Combat mags.

Back in the 1960's choppers were vulnerable to small arms fire,now not so much. The UH-60L has rotor blades that can withstand hits from antiaircraft shells up to 23mm. The cockpit is also armored as is the fuel tanks,engine,transmission and all electronic and hydraulic flight controls have ballistic protection. So unless you are packing a duel 23mm AA gun or a RPG you won't have much luck in shooting one down. Of course there is always the "Golden BB"..an extremely lucky round that happens to hit a tiny vulnerable spot....but do you want to bet your life on it?

We are also able to raise, train and command our own military forces, subvert and overthrow governments....conduct urban/guerrilla warfare operations of the highest level....and on and on and on.

That doesn't mean we are actively doing those things.

We got operators of every flavor living in these here mountains. If things were ugly enough for us to all get together for something other than enjoying the good life I imagine we would organize with the locals/sheriffs department and secure our shit rather effectively.

My girlfriend has an AR15 Colt and a Walther PPQ .40

I'm more traditional and have a Bersa Mini Thunder .45 Im licensed to carry, a Remington 870 pump shotgun and a Marlin 30-30 Lever Action with a nice scope.

I love the Marlin without the scope too.

I'll pick off anyone with an AR from up to 200 yards and look cool doing it.

I own several. They are fantastic hunting tools. Calibers can be changed relatively easily. The length can be customized. Lights can be added. Plus it's an awesome defensive tool. I'll probably build or buy a few more.

I do want one, but they are god awful expensive. Not to mention the California versions are neutered so what is the point really? If I ever up and left this shitty state I would probably put it higher on the priority list.

You can always buy a lower receiver (for a rainy day) and have someone build it up for you at a later date. Lowers are still available fairly cheap, uppers are available in every manor of configuration.

The M4 is the right rifle for that round. You simply don't need the extra weight or the range on such a piss ant round. That's why the M16 is practically extinct and has been replaced by M4's for pretty much every combat unit in the US military.

So if you're shooting paper you're right. A good musket M16 is better....

In real world applications that's not really an advantage.
