Many, many years ago I was a guest at a vegan friend's cabin in the mountains, and he and his wife fixed eggplant parmesan for dinner. The parmesan part was delicious. Wish I could say the same about the eggplant.

I'm supposed to go back in two weeks, well more like a week and a half now.
It seems to be doing a two step forwards, one step back approach right now.

I have a partial knee replacement scheduled for 12/29 (60 days exactly from today). It's a little scary, but also very hopeful. I can't drive, or walk more than 100 yards or cook or ... Hopefully all of that is back after six weeks of intensive PT. Or at least back for the most part. I would be ecstatic to be 90% of what I was 13 months ago, before I destroyed my meniscus.

Hopefully all of that is back after six weeks of intensive PT. Or at least back for the most part. I would be ecstatic to be 90% of what I was 13 months ago, before I destroyed my meniscus.

I have a hunch I'm not far behind. Orthopædist is concerned with my lower back arthritis, but I haven't told her yet about my left knee locking up in certain positions. Wanting to avoid that conversation as long as possible. Typical guy.

Apparently, they are much more comfortable doing it for arthritis than for acute injury like mine, at least for older folk. The first surgeon refused to do it because I have very little arthritis in the knee.

That's for sure.
On November 24th of last year, I came within hours of the alternative.
Talking to @Duleigh about HAM Radio and stories, really helped me get past the first part of it all.
Took my mind off it.

It sucks. Having to rely on others isn't how I imagined life would be at this age.

The game plan with all this medical attention is to mitigate as much as they can while still maintaining a decent quality of life. My wife and I are working hard to get a home built that accommodates a live-in caretaker to help with the activities of daily living (a/k/a "ADL") to help us be as free as we can manage. First job requirement: don't be shocked by naked old people, and, yes, you will be asked to assist us in and out of the backyard hot tub.

This is versus the gradual downhill that puts us in some manner of assisted living apartment. That shit will suck down your nest egg in no time at all.
