The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

We are compassionate to our animals.

We are animals, are we not?

Where is our compassion?

When faced with the issue, I will travel to where they are.

I will not be fed and wiped while someone's else's finances are enhanced.

Agreed. That's my biggest fear for what lies ahead of me ...
I really wish we had a hugs emoji.

I remember asking you if your knee was your problem. I think it was. Arthritis? Look at the knee replacement surgery. It really has a good success rate for fixing things for arthritis. Much less is for acute injuries, so this may not fix my current physical limitations. But I have to try.

The current artificial knee parts they're using now are expected to last a long time. I should be in (or at least close to) my nineties by then. I'm willing to commit to using a walker at that point.

We're finally going to see the sun today. It won't be much warmer, but at least it isn't raining. Just in time for Halloween.

There's a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and cookies on the counter. There is also a big bowl of Halloween candy for those who want a treat (but you still need to perform a trick first).

I'll be over in the corner fighting off the plot bunnies and working on my story. I got another small scene fleshed out and I'm looking to start working on the big sex scene that changes the whole direction of the story. If only my Muse would be more helpful instead of playing with the plot bunnies ...

I disagree.

Disabled and loss of independence is not 'living'.
I disagree with your disagreement

I am 240% disabled (VA Math), homebound, and chronically unemployable. The VA pays someone to keep an eye on me, do my shopping and haul me to the doctor, but I am alive. I am doing what I can whenever I want. Twice a week I volunteer for the county to monitor radio bands for calls of distress (I spend the time writing), I can write what I want, whenever I want, and I control the TV remote. Yeah, there's a lot of things I can't do any more but most of it I don't miss.

It's pouring here and will all day. Staying around 50 all day. The hot tea is especially appreciated on days like today. Thanks CK.

I should do some grading this morning, then maybe I can finish my draft of my winter story today or tomorrow. I'm so much less stressed than I was yesterday morning. One more thing hanging over my head (other than grading), but life if looking good overall. Probably a bad omen.

Discord has a nice feature where you can react to a message using any emoji that you like. Not this forum, though, sadly.
There's a large catalog of emoji built into unicode/utf-8. To use any of those emoji you enter the character code followed by a space. It initially appears at your current font size. Increase the font size to make it larger.
🤗

I'm on a Linux-based system, and the code is entered with ctrl-shift-u followed by the character code. Different systems have different methods. The character will appear as rendered by your browser. That varies, but the common codes have a fairly uniform appearance.

I have some extra carrots if you need them to distract the plot bunnies.

Alt+0 followed by the code works on Windows, as long as you use the numpad section of the keyboard (the one of the right, not above the letters, assuming you have full 103-keys keyboard). Newer versions have Win+. or Win+; (period/semicolon) shortcut to open a full-blown emoji UI.

(I still use Alt+0151 to type em-dashes out of habit).

Note that regardless of how you input them, Unicode emojis work in stories too, so you can use them in your transcribed text messages.

Yea for headache-free!

I was cleaning out the garden beds and found seven unharvested melons. I thought there were four. One of them I didn't know about looked almost ripe, so I brought it in to see how ripe it was and whether the frost damaged it. It was in great shape. I gutted it and put it in the fridge for a new total of 21 melons, mostly from one vine.

Readers are sometimes hard to read. My summer lovin' story finished the contest at 4.63. That's good for Toys and Masturbation, and the contest-driven vote total let it live briefly at the end of the all time top list in the category.

The score dropped for the next month, which is pretty common for stories that have been swept, and it landed at 4.57. I figured it would stay there, but it didn't. The contest page is still linked on the main Categories page, so it kept getting votes and the score crawled back up. It reached 4.61 this morning.

The average vote since the score bottomed is 4.875. The Halloween sweeps removed a 5* vote, but that didn't have a big impact. Don't know what changed the voter's mind. More likely to be true, I don't know why the voting community changed.
