The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I dropped by to make sure there was a fresh pot of coffee brewing while I heated up the teapot to make a cup of Earl Grey. I see most people found their presents under the tree but there are still a few stockings hanging over the ashes of the Yule log that haven't been taken down. Looks like they all have coal in them so I guess that's why ...

Happy Third Day of Christmas. I hope you enjoy the turtle doves. Speaking of turtles, there's some homemade chocolate (ummm, chocolate) turtles on the counter along with some leftovers from Christmas dinner.

I see someone replaced the bulb in the stairwell to the basement so I could see the coal I tossed there is gone, so I guess the dragon ate it.

It's time to get back to writing so I'll be over in the corner muttering to myself as I try to put words to paper.

Thanks Candy.

Time for a coffee, then on the road again. Hopefully most of the holiday traffic has left yesterday and we'll have a quiet drive home.

The evening (or morning, depending on which side of the world you live on) coffee is brewing and will be ready shortly. Someone left a plate of cookies on the counter so help yourself.

I'm off to bed and will hopefully wake up in the morning.

Thanks as always, Candy. When I entered the ol' Shop/Room today, I noticed that, above the card table by the far wall, somebody had hung from the ceiling what might be mistletoe, or might be one of those air fresheners sold in truck stops. Just to make sure, I moved the card table out from underneath. While I'm trying to write, I can't give enthusiastic consent to any of the ardent ladies seeking my, ahem, kiss. Also, the stuff dripping through the ceiling tile might react poorly with mistletoe, which is already pretty dangerous stuff (not as bad as holly, but still). I don't want that getting into my coffee.

I may have worked out what's necessary to finish the fifth part of the series in which I'm mired. The sixth part would be the finish. I should enjoy the thrill of the work I'll do on it today, because after today I'll stare at the void of Part Six and wonder how to get from Point Y to Point Z.

Coffee is brewing and will be ready in a minute or two. The teapot is hot so you can have a cuppa. There are some Boston Cream Pie donuts on the counter for anyone who needs a sugar hit.

I'll have someone check out the mistletoe to see if it needs to be replaced.

Happy fourth day of Christmas. The calling birds are pretty loud so whoever wants them is welcome to them. For those preparing to light the fourth candle for Hanukkah, remember to pause and remember the importance of the Mystery in our lives, the Mystery that brings light into our hearts and our souls, through all of Creation on this Motzei Shabbat -Saturday evening.

The truth of the 12 days of Christmas! Most American's don't even realize how that works. As soon as presents are opened it's over for them, and I find that sad. I like to celebrate the holiday through to the Epiphany.

We had a late night, and Jo let me sleep in. Monday, back to work for me, write, write, write. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be any of my own stories I work on. I'm still behind on paid work.
I was up at 0500. I finished a story last night and it was up early begging me to edit it and send it off NOW!!!

Paid work is good. I'm going to have to try and find some

From Wikipedia:In the English Christmas carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas", the line commonly sung today as "four calling birds" is believed to have originally been written in the 18th century as "four colly birds", an archaism meaning "black as coal" that was a popular English nickname for the common blackbird.
If they were black as coal, wouldn't it be Four Colliery birds?

(See what I did there? 😁)

We had our Christmas lasagna and gift exchange this evening. My artist daughter gave me a copy of "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" with the original illustrations (something I'd asked for). I was very happy she was the one who gave it to me, because the illustrations (like this one, which was used for the cover) were very formative for her interests in art.

The coffeepot is full and the teapot is hot for those who want a cuppa. There's some peppermint bark on the counter and some biscotti for those who like to dunk.

Today is the fifth day of Christmas so get those five golden rings insured if there's any chance they can get stolen. Gold spot price is $2,620.30 per troy ounce as of this morning.

Very evocative of Erté. Your daughter familiar with his work?
