The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Very evocative of Erté. Your daughter familiar with his work?
I expect she is. She's the artist.

Kay Nielson was Art Nouveau, and Erte is Art Deco. I'm not sure where the critics and historians draw the line between those two styles. Erte's figures seem similar to Nielson's, but Nielson's settings are usually more detailed.

I was paging through the book and realized that one of the first pieces of wall decor I bought when I set up my first apartment (a poster I framed) was a print from East of the Sun and West of the Moon titled The Lad in the Bear's skin, and the King of Arabia's daughter.

PS. That title can be googled. It's still fairly popular.

I dropped in to make sure the coffee was ready so there's a fresh pot. The teapot is hot and there are shortbread cookies dipped in Belgium chocolate (mmmm, chocolate ...) on the counter.

As @Duleigh pointed out, the six geese are laying and making quite the racket while doing so. The cookware is next to the stove if anyone wants to cook up the eggs for omelettes or however you want to cook them.

Thanks Candy, but I'll give the coffee a miss. Bec, her sister, her husband and I knocked off a bottle of Shiraz infused gin. A bit of tonic water and a squeeze of lemon. Really nice, but potent.

Santa finally circled back and dropped off the gift he promised weeks ago. He claimed there were reindeer issues. Something about this not being a "Right to Flight" state and local deer had to be used. Here in the Deep South the deer are tiny so it took 27 deer to haul Santa and his big sack of presents. He handed me a wrapped gift and said "73, and give me a QSO when you're set up."

And another one of those messages on Facebook. I swear every elderly relative who survived 2016 and 2020 has been dying off this year. This one with bonus 'can you tell your mom?' I was thinking that it's not my job - only we've run out of closer people whose job it would be.

Planning a trip to see what's left of the family next year. I hope. Probably the last one ever.

I know the feeling. My wife's parents and siblings have passed away and all of her uncles and aunts are gone. Her cousins are still here. My father and all of his close relatives are gone. My mother is in her mid-90's and still with us, but all but one of my (many) aunts and uncles are gone. I still have both of my siblings.

Similar boat here. All the two of us have left are my siblings, all younger, and I only keep-up (barely!) with one, my sister just under me. Her husband is 20 years older than she and in ill health, and I have a feeling she's not going to go out of her way to say anything to me when he passes. None of us have children, which sort of underscores how we all feel about "family".

I still have aunts, an uncle, and plenty of cousins on my mother's side, but I barely know them and certainly don't communicate, Facebook or otherwise. I grew up with my immediate family 3000 miles away from them, and aside from four cross-country visits before I was a teen, basically don't know these people from Adam.

Hi everyone! I'm just stopping by to say hi. I didn't realize there was a whole community here! That's nice. I'm Molly; I write trans girl stories.

How many of you write non-erotic stories as well? (Forgive me if this question has been asked a million times already and everyone's sick of it!)

Happy new year!

Please pull up a chair, kick your heels off, and I'll pour you an Irish cream with a boost of Jamison.

The local classical music station asked listeners to submit their favorite pieces. The "event" went on for several months, then the list was used to construct their holiday playlist. The most popular single piece was aired this afternoon on their drive-time show. It was Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.

Here Conducted by Claudio Abbado and Orchestra Mozart.

The link might work. Don't know.

Yep. I see they played it about a half-hour ago. This afternoon's playlist is fairly eclectic. Sounds like a great station to have. Shame our local classical station was sold about 15 years ago.

Welcome, Molly!

I write the odd non-erotic story, but apart from being fun, the porn gets 10 to 100x more readers...

Couldn't find any whiskey in the house to toast my aunt with; had to improvise with some Irish Cream chocolate beans and polishing off the bottle of whisky that was poured out for Father Christmas until I explained that I'm not stingy, but you don't drink spirits in the same quantities as wine.

KHFM has been sold a couple times too, but it's always stayed with the classical music market. When I first moved here it was owned by the late Bill Weinrod, who was also the Executive Director of the late New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. My mother-in-law was his secretary. I don't remember who his first successor was, but it wasn't the current owner (American General Media). It's seen changes even under AGM so that it's now a not-for-profit run by a former DJ, who has considerably improved the station.

Hi Molly, and happy new year to you too. Grab a chair or a booth, coffee's in the pot and the kettle's on the back burner if tea's your thing.

Personally, I haven't written non-erotic stories here because that's not the market. I have thought that some could be toned down for general consumption elsewhere, but to be honest, I don't have the time or inclination.

Just a hint - add a link to your story list in your signature. Click on your name top right to get to it. It makes it easy for people here to browse your works.

The Canada geese returned to the pond only five, not six. My wife saw them on Christmas Day, and then they left for a day. New Year's Day is supposed to be cold for SE England.

Thank you for the tip! I figured it out.

Yes, of course, not here. I write stories for literary magazines sometimes. They're not even sexy at all!

There's a fresh pot of coffee and the teapot is hot for those who want a cuppa. There are some powdered donuts on the counter.

There were still a coupe of unclaimed stockings filled with coal hanging up so I took them down and chucked the coal down into the basement for the dragon to enjoy.

Today is the seventh day of Christmas so the seven swans are swimming around and will hopefully be gone when the Polar Vortex gets here. Luckily the swans are quieter than the geese were so I should be able to get some writing done today.

Welcome to the Coffee Shop and Reading room. It's a great, supportive community here. Personally I write romance, sci-fi, and 'romantasy' and to be honest, all of my stories are non-erotic. The sex is modular and can be easily removed or expanded without affecting the outcome of the story. I do this depending on end audience.
