I am finding some very interesting things. I really want to work on this story but have to complete pre publication work for the novel. It's a good problem to have.

This sent me down some deep rabbit holes about the brilliant Japanese defense of Iwo Jima.

There was a detail that caught my attention that seemed relevant for using them in a story. I usually expect that caves and tunnels will be cool, but Iwo Jima is the center of a super volcano, with fumaroles and hot sulfur springs all around. Their bunkers and tunnels were uncomfortably hot, and they probably still are.

Excellent detail! Just the sort of thing I need to know. Thanks! I was looking at the climate and weather. It looked quite mild for this time of year, high of 85, but I knew it was a volcanic island and wondered what the tunnels would be composed of. Yes, the defense of the island, in the face of opposition from superiors, was quite a marked departure - part of what helped them hold out so long. But my story focuses on a couple days before, and possible after, the allied landing. Right now I'm trying to find out when the U.S. Knew about the tunnels, because they didn't know when they landed.

Compared to the heat wave we’ve had in Atlanta, 78 degrees for a high temp Tuesday is gonna feel like Winter returned. I might need to bust out the leather pants and leather jacket😂

Morning all, up way too early and need that coffee transfusion.

Summer arrived - finally - yesterday. Sunny, mid-20s. Sunflowers grew a foot.

Got it. Fresh strong coffee from my moka pot.

I’m happy for your sunflowers. I’m happier still for my own ten-degree (Fahrenheit) temp drop today.

And the next thing you know, it'll be too hot.

We had a four-degree drop from Saturday to Sunday and we're supposed to have a ten-degree drop from Sunday to today. The heat should stay at and below normal the rest of the week with rain chances every day. My garden will rejoice.

We had some snow in the cape, so it's getting a bit colder here.
Some tea sounds divine right about now, does the shop have rooibos by any chance?

QaI - I have a Belgian chocolate rooibos I'd be happy to donate, if that fits your tastes.

NW - Rooibos is also known as 'red bush' tea. It's used in much the same way as black or green tea. While too much isn't good for you, in moderate doses it's supposed to have beaucoup antioxidant qualities.

Ooh, that sounds tasty, I have never had chocolate rooibos. I've only had the ones that are sold locally. I gather yours comes from Belgium?

I would like a cup of that, please.

Please forgive me, but as an Afrikaner, I want to point out the Afrikaans spelling mistake, it's spelled rooibos. rooi = red, bos = bush :D

I've always through Afrikaans sounds kinda funny. It's basically Dutch with a twist, as far as I'm aware. Might even be able to understand you if you wrote or spoke it, haha.

Yea it's basically Dutch with a sprinkling of German and Khoisan. A Dutch girl once told me that Afrikaans sounds old fashion to her, as there are some phrases and stuff that we say today that you guys don't use anymore.

There was this one case where I was playing with a Hollander on an Ark: Survival Evolved server, in which my friends and I would type in Afrikaans to confuse the Brazilian players, and he (Japie was his nickname) would write back in Nederlands.:D

Although thinking back, the Brazilians could have just used google translate to decipher our "secret communications" :D

There's a real nice flash-mob thing on Fb, set about the mid 1600s. It's an advert from something to do with the painting "Militia Company of District II under the Command of Captain Frans Banninck Cocq, ", otherwise known as "the Night Watch";
see here:

A nice mug of Tea would be welcome

Bought mine locally at a tea store and you are most welcome to some.

Thanks for the spelling lesson :)o). Corrected and hopefully learned.

Well, I'm home for maybe a week and then I'm off again. Uh, traveling again. I've been off for years.

Fresh coffee all around to celebrate.

Welcome home!

Home is where if you go there, they have to take you in?

Work trip? I used to travel a lot, mostly internationally. It was fun at first, but it can really wear at you, especially with family at home.

One of the things I really like about my current job is that after four years I've still not needed to travel for work.
