Don't look at me. I dumped 8,9,and 10 and went back to 7. That's as far as I'm going with Windblows. Anything after that will be Linux. I have it loaded on both the desk top and the lap top already so....

I did an upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS this morning. It went flawlessly and took about 3 1/2 hours. Now all I have to do is port over a few dozen gigabytes of data. I added the new version of "Language Tool" to LibreOffice Writer. They seem to have upgraded the tool, which is a checker for grammar and word use.

Ah, I remember reading that now. Everything with my publisher and editor is Courier New, so font is not a problem. I very seldom use anything else.

One of my games runs in WINE but the other one is newer from the same software company and won't run. I really need to dump both games as it cuts in on writing time but then again, they clear my mind at times.

For me that mind-clearing thing is really important.

I like to use physical activity instead of sitting in front of the screen. A walk is good, but sometimes that doesn't break the old train of thought, and the old train of thought is the problem. Going mostly blank while chopping wood works pretty well.

There are other things. Give your mind a rest and let your body take over--for a while.

My wife (the Psych nurse) reminds me now and then that it isn't a problem if I talk to myself. It's a problem when I talk to someone else who isn't there.

That might be a fine distinction. Consider how many time I repeat lines to characters who no-one can see until something sinks in to the listener, who happens to also be me.

Yes, well, I had to pull over when I was driving home the other day and turn around and drive back because I was thinking about my story and I missed the turnoff and went about 15 miles down the road doing plot stuff in my head and had no idea where I was when my brain came back to reality.

Been there, done that.

Never try and drive while plotting out an action scene for a racing story. Cops have other ideas on what you should be thinking about.

This principle also applies to writing about flying down the motorway and racing on a motorbike.
Some cops just do not get it, do they.

I've not seen a "cruise control" on an English car for a long time (and they weren't too common then). I gather that some English cars these days may be so fitted, though; but not many !
Not that the absence thereof in my own car ever prevented my overshooting the odd junction, of course.

And we now enjoy +8C, in bright sunshine (so tonight's going to be bloody cold)

It was snowing on the mountain when I drove to work this morning, and now we have light rain. I think this is the first precipitation we've had since early October--or maybe late September. The layer of dust on top of the soil has become pretty thick.
