One mug of tea coming up.

Don't look at me. I dumped 8,9,and 10 and went back to 7. That's as far as I'm going with Windblows. Anything after that will be Linux. I have it loaded on both the desk top and the lap top already so....

I did an upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS this morning. It went flawlessly and took about 3 1/2 hours. Now all I have to do is port over a few dozen gigabytes of data. I added the new version of "Language Tool" to LibreOffice Writer. They seem to have upgraded the tool, which is a checker for grammar and word use.

I have 16.04 on both machines but I'm not certain about the LTS.

The only reason I keep Windblows is the couple of games I play on occasion and my editor and publisher both work in Word. I've used the same version of Word since 2000. I've got it modified to my liking. Open Office would probably work just as well but... Don't fix what ain't broke. For now anyway.

LTS stands for "Long Term Support." Version 16.04 is the current LTS version. They'll support it for five years counting from April, 2016.

Our main office uses Word on Windows and I use LibreOffice on Linux. For years now the only problem we've had with simple text documents are caused by the fonts. Carlito is the default font on Windows. It's not usually available on Linux, because it's MS's property. There are ways around that, like choosing a font that both systems use. You can also use Cabin (I think it is) on Linux and it's compatible with Carlito.

If you get into fancy documents--with things like illustrations with wrap-around text--then LibreOffice and Word handle things differently.

There is a system named Wine that works in Linux and lets you run Windows software. It works, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to put some time into solving problems. I've rarely done that, even when my time is paid for.

Ah, I remember reading that now. Everything with my publisher and editor is Courier New, so font is not a problem. I very seldom use anything else.

One of my games runs in WINE but the other one is newer from the same software company and won't run. I really need to dump both games as it cuts in on writing time but then again, they clear my mind at times.

Okay, fresh coffee for the night owl patrol. ;)

For me that mind-clearing thing is really important.

I like to use physical activity instead of sitting in front of the screen. A walk is good, but sometimes that doesn't break the old train of thought, and the old train of thought is the problem. Going mostly blank while chopping wood works pretty well.

There are other things. Give your mind a rest and let your body take over--for a while.

Better late than never. :D I slept in and everyone let me.

There's fresh coffee.

I've been writing a fairly tense conversation for the last two days. I haven't had a lot of time to spend on it, but even if I did it might have taken two days. Sometimes I have to walk away and think about it.

Evening,

Hot chocolate does sound good. I've pretty much goofed off and been lazy all day.
It was deeelicious. Not so sure about the poem I'm working on.

I do that when I'm HAVING a tense conversation.

That's a good policy, but sometimes the other half of the conversation doesn't go along. Fortunately I'm both sides of that conversation.

Shit, now people are gonna think I'm schizophrenic.

Nah, just an author. Although...wait...come to think of it... yeah, well...

You mean there are people who don't have conversations with themselves?

My wife (the Psych nurse) reminds me now and then that it isn't a problem if I talk to myself. It's a problem when I talk to someone else who isn't there.

That might be a fine distinction. Consider how many time I repeat lines to characters who no-one can see until something sinks in to the listener, who happens to also be me.

Okay, so there's a difference between voluntary and involuntary behavior, but I could still be found muttering stuff to myself, just like the guys in the hospital.

Being crazy keeps me from going insane. Pretty much sums up my family motto. Not to mention, when in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.

More coffee is now available for authors with self-delusional questions.

Yes, well, I had to pull over when I was driving home the other day and turn around and drive back because I was thinking about my story and I missed the turnoff and went about 15 miles down the road doing plot stuff in my head and had no idea where I was when my brain came back to reality.

Been there, done that.

Never try and drive while plotting out an action scene for a racing story. Cops have other ideas on what you should be thinking about. :D

How very true.
This principle also applies to writing about flying down the motorway and racing on a motorbike.
Some cops just do not get it, do they.

We got +6C this morning; and fog in parts.
Time, I think, for a nice cup of coffee.

Cruise control people! I highly recommend it.

Really good jazz music has also caused me to miss my exit.

I am up entirely too early, munchkin had a bad dream. *yawn*

Since I'm up way to late or is that early, I'll put the coffee on before I go take a nap.

MP, cruise control is your friend in so many situations.

Today is going to town day, so.... Pay bills, grocery shop, ect, ect, ect.

I've not seen a "cruise control" on an English car for a long time (and they weren't too common then). I gather that some English cars these days may be so fitted, though; but not many !
Not that the absence thereof in my own car ever prevented my overshooting the odd junction, of course.

And we now enjoy +8C, in bright sunshine (so tonight's going to be bloody cold)

It was snowing on the mountain when I drove to work this morning, and now we have light rain. I think this is the first precipitation we've had since early October--or maybe late September. The layer of dust on top of the soil has become pretty thick.
