Morning all,

It is still cold here and will be until the weekend. Soi I have no plans on going out until early next week.

MP, I feel for ya. I hope the job and school treat the both of you nicely .

Speaking of houseguests.... She decided to sleep balled up in the middle of the bed last night. That got her attacked on both ends, uh, sides, this morning. A messy job but someone had to have help doing it. :)

HM & HG are now cuddling under the blankets and giggling so I figure I'll get attack a little later. I have the coffee ready and was thinking pancakes but those might have to wait.

What an active life you do lead (I don't know whether to sympathise or be slightly jealous).

If anyone needs any rain, just bring a bucket of five and take it away with you - PLEASE.

Sympathy for Mags.

And now for a coffee.

Yes, well, Julian Bream, sure... He and the others show that it's a small-voiced instrument. I'll think about that. Rather, it goes onto the when-I-can-afford-it wishlist, along with psalteries, fretted viols, tars and veenas, and that fabled mandola. But no theorbos, archlutes, nor sitars - insufficient space. Oy.

Espresso will be on soon. Too soon. Time is just so fucking relentless. Sigh...

How about these:

And more coffee please...

Airport coffee and twiddling our thumbs waiting for that first flight. Porky the Panda is on her way home rounder than she was a week ago. Honest to god I think I've gained 5 lbs. no more pasta until summer!!!!!! Workout time tonight and back at work tomorrow. Using the flight time to work on my Valentine's Day story.

My Baroque Guitar enthusiasm is abating. Yes, yes, marvelous instrument, in the right hands. [/me glares disapprovingly at /me clumsy mitts] But my frenzy was aroused by a... misleading... Wikipedia page, showing an insane tuning, just the sort I like. Its use of only three string gages for five doubled courses was kewl. Its intervals screamed.

The reality? it's too much like a modern guitar or lute. Yawn. I want psychopathic or sociopathic instrument tunings, even soft music causing emotional or civil breakdowns. I approximated such once, camped in high mountains. Deer and bears fled, heh heh.

EDIT: Wait, it really IS totally nutz. I've confused myself even more. Oy.
EDIT2: Okay, I bid on it. I'm a sucker. If I lose, there's always another.
EDIt3: I've been outbid. Whew. Now I can think about a budget theorbo.

More espresso; the last is wearing off. Colors are fading. Tinnitus is rising. It's time. [/me staggers toward kitchen] With cinnamon!

Wait until the pasta withdrawals start. Way worse than any other kind of addiction. Maybe not quite as bad a jellybean withdrawal but close. ;)

Welcome back to the real world. :rose::kiss:

Ah, the joys of a post-food coffee.
And, for the benefit of those without, we have lots of surplus rain. Come get it while you may !

Oh, for me it's rice. I need my Chinese-style rice. I'd be craving that by now except we went to dim sum and I got my fix. And now, boarding call. Up up and away.... see you all tomorrow and Happy New Year.....

One coffee coming up but you can keep the rain. With our temps, it would be ice very shortly and we don't even need that.

And a Happy New Year to you also.

.

Thank you kindly, Sir.
Well, it's stopped raining, but the wind's getting brisk (Storm 'Elenor', we're told).

Is there such a thing as a 'Laser' razor for a gent touse when shaving ?

Time now for Tea, I think
Good Night all, and a peaceful and pleasant New Year to All.

It's an epiphany that didn't even require coffee. Or maybe I'm dim for not catching on earlier. But now I *get* the seemingly nutz multiple re-entrant baroque guitar tuning.

Modern guitar and mandolin tunings facilitate playing up and down the neck - the next note played will likely be elsewhere on the same string, making somewhat choppy sounds. On baroque guitars and citterns, the current note rings on while the next note sings from another string, flowing onward. Baroque tuning is like a stepped pentatonic scale to be rung across, not a cycle of intervals to be attacked. Wow!

The good and cheap news is that I can move strings around on an existing mandolin and baritone 'ukulele to achieve those effects. Without spending money. That's important. Cheap is good. Free is better. And hey, the coffee is paid for.

I'm sure that your tuning will keep you amused for some time;
Ah, he used the magic words - Coffee and 'free'.
Now, while we have a few moments, I'll try and explain the Series hard-valve voltage regulator. As the load changes, V1 inverts the voltage swing and V2 (with a stable cathode from stabliser V3) . . . . .

Have a good day.

Home with a sick munchkin. Pouring the fluids in her and the coffee in me. Planning a little reading and writing for me.

Hugs. Hope she's better quickly.

I'm all for the coffee. Got home yesterday afternoon. Awesomely tough workout, really went at it, then bed, sleep and into work early. Another workout tonight and then some writing time planned. "Fields of Gold" needs about 8-10k more words and I can put it to bed. The other one needs a good edit tho. Reread it on the plane and okay, edit edit edit.... eeeeek

Tuning is easy. Re-stringing takes effort.

And nothing is guaranteed. Any experiment could end in failure. That's the learning process, hey? Every fuckup instructs us what not to do again. But as they say: Some learn by reading, some by watching. And some just have to piss on the electric fence to see if it's hot.

Another paid-for quadruple espresso is trying to re-energize me at this very moment. It's having a difficult time. Brief hours of lethargy must be overcome. Freely.

I advise thyristors and voltage-controlled rectifiers (VCRs) in parallel circuits. Make sure you're well-grounded and -shunted, too. Keep your mains clean.

Have a good day.
The dentist is six hours away. The day will be good till then. Maybe later too, if enough opioids are involved. Hmm, caffeine is used to boost other painkillers -- will hydrocodone coffee work?

Meanwhile, the mandola is calling out. "Re-string me, oh please re-string me," it cries plaintively. It's not yet nibbled at my toes. How far can this go?

Today is Hump Day. Yesterday was Toesday. A day late and a Mandola short.

Morning all, Yeah, I know, barely. It has been a busy morning but that too shall pass.

Actually, I slept in and then got tangled up in a story. The sun is out so the ladies decided it was shopping time. We're supposed to see a temp over 32 today.

Fresh coffee and back to writing.

Ah, coffee

Horrible weather today. White-outs, heavy snow squalls, roads covered with snow, slush, and ice. Thankfully, my son drove me to the doctor's appointment this morning. Back to writing . . . with a Dr Pepper. ;)

Headed back to the deep freeze tonight so I'm working on a big mug of hot chocolate.

Fresh coffee for the evening crew.

With the theobromine in the cocoa you probably don't need extra coffee. Snuggle up and share some chocolate warmth.

Theobromine is literally "food of the gods" so suck some up and get divine. A splash of rum or brandy in the cup rarely hurts the holy effect.

Meanwhile we're getting some warmish sprinkles here whilst the rest of North America and Europe are slammed with frigidity. My killer new mandolin tuning ("Get-Up John!") seems to be holding the weather at bay. Ta ta.

Cocoa seems a good idea. With a dash of jalapeño sugar. For inspiration. Right.

Coffee she pleads, give me coffee for it is off to work in the darkness of the early hours. Who needs headlights. With enough coffee I'll be so wired I can see in the dark..... lol
