My daughter's house was just broken in to. They don't even know yet what is missing, but it's quite a bit.

They're having a studio built next to the house in place of the old garage and I'd place bets that the perp is part of the crew that poured the foundation.

What else sucks? Jan. 1 is their wedding anniversary and her husband planned to take her to an ancient spa north of here for their anniversary. Those hard-to-get plans could be trashed now.

Sorry to read this, NW. Hoping for positive news soon.

I'm not getting out in this weather, even for a lottery ticket. Of course, that gives me more time to write. ;) I have my NaNo story I'm trying to complete. Somehow, it's taking much longer to get to the ending I have in my head, so today I'm reading it to see what I can find.

Thanks, HP. :rose::kiss:

Good luck. :rose: You'll get there. Today, I have two stories to submit, one to a contest and one to an anthology call for submissions. Then I hope to do some free writing on a concept for an art exhibition. I plan to get back to pairing art and poetry this year.

Happy Sinday everyone,

Real winter is due tonight, low 20's high teens. 30's and 40's and below freezing at night for the next week.

Always a good reason to stay in and cuddle.

Always a good reason to stay in and cuddle.

You needed a reason?

Thanks all, for your responses re the burglary at my daughter's house. I woke this morning to find 40 unread text messages on the subject.

The burglars didn't seem to know what they were looking for. They ransacked the place and took some things while leaving others of greater value. I'm sure their homeowners insurance will cover financial losses, but no insurance can replace the sentimental value of some items that were taken or fix the sense of violation that comes when your home is broken into.

No-one in the family expects the items to be recovered, but hey, we could be surprised.

We have a family get together tonight that we would usually have on New Years Day. I'm sure we'll hear more about it then.

Back to writing.

New Years Eve on UK TV was always a waste of bloody time when I was younger. And it concluded with a visit to the 'White Heather Club' (from Scotland, for some obscure reason) with lots of kilts and (at one time) Andy Stewart.

Tonight, I think I'll have a look through my films and pick something suitable.
Most of the advertised programming is 'export gibberish' or repeats.

I think we'll be doing the same. I've been wanting to re-watch the Matt Smith Doctor Who special with the trees and no one else here has seen it. :rose:

I'm making caramel corn for my "treat" tonight. Most years I go to bed before midnight but I might just stay up tonight. We even have a bit of sunshine . . . a nice break for sure.

For us here, 2017 has but a short time to exist (about 20 minutes).

I pass on to all 'Litizens' Best Wishes for the New Year

Pulling out a movie and going to bed early sound like just the right thing.

And a Happy New Year to one and all.

Now was not a good hour to register on a new website requiring admin approval.

My cheap mandola questions will just have to wait.

Happy transition, y'all.

TMC is playing all the Thin Man movies, back to back, in order. I don't know if I will make it through them all.

Happy New Year All

Happy New Year Everyone.
A dim grey dawn breaks over my part of the land.
The Dawn wind (ancient Egyptians called it "the breath of Amun" is little more than a very cool breeze.
A good excuse for a nice coffee.
May the rest of 2018 be as quiet.

I did not resolve to start getting up at 5:30. It just happened.

Happy writing and good coffee to you all. :rose:

The sky is blue and it looks like the sun may come out for the first time in a week or so. There are two problems I see so far. It is Moanday and it's 28 degrees and feels like 18. The high is only supposed to be 39.

In any case, I'm making fresh coffee. So help yourself and have a happy new year or I'll send someone over to.... Make you happier. :D

I stayed up late and woke up early. So I started the year the same way I ended the old one --tired.

Baking a chicken today. Nothing fancy for sides since I'm the only one here.

Unseasonably warm but murky skies are forecast for a couple days till the dust-settling rain. Nervous deer scrounge in the meadow. Espresso is on tap for those of you who can't wait. Oops, it's medication time.

I'm putting aside the mandola quest for the moment and thinking of a Baroque Guitar's insane 10-string tuning. Cost is prohibitive but I could hack my worthless baritone 'uke into an approximation. Too bad no Chinese or Romanian factories churn them out by the boatload, like banjos.

It's one thing to arm bears with firearms. Arming them with banjos would be monstrous.

I look forward to that. :)

Erm,, 'sides' ?
Have discovered square chickens ?

That may be considered criminal, if not insane.

Sides . . . such as potatoes, veggies, salads, etc. :D No square chickens that I've seen.

Alas, I found a baroque guitar online that is quite reasonable, so price isn't an excuse. I must merely decide (quickly!) if I'll want to buy a type of instrument I've never touched and have no idea how it sounds or plays. What a pickle!

I've found a possible mandola solution. BTW 'mandola' means 'almond' and is sometimes conflated with bandola, pandora, and similar names. Anyway, that cheap model seems to be the right size but... it's been available for a few years, and I've found NO user reviews. Zero. Nobody in the world has admitted playing one. Is that suspicious?

Maybe I'll wimp out. The right-size 'ukulele (US$33) and the right strings ($7) would substitute for the desired mandola ($hundreds$), but quieter. Maybe quiet is good.

It's too late for caffeine but I'll pump depresso for anyone stopping by. Ciao.

Mornin. Havin a houseguest (and not the good kind like Tx) is playing silly buggers with my sleep. Plus the munchkin woke me at 4 am. It's back to work for me and school for the mnchkin too. *yawn* Gonna need the coffee IV.

Yes, well, Julian Bream, sure... He and the others show that it's a small-voiced instrument. I'll think about that. Rather, it goes onto the when-I-can-afford-it wishlist, along with psalteries, fretted viols, tars and veenas, and that fabled mandola. But no theorbos, archlutes, nor sitars - insufficient space. Oy.

Espresso will be on soon. Too soon. Time is just so fucking relentless. Sigh...
