The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Good morning OM and other diners. I was sorry to read MissK’s close call. That is too damn scary. I had a scary moment with deep water over the road once and that was enough.

Let’s stay safe folks.

Another hot and humid day again. The heat drags on me and the old dog. It’s not a good feeling. Stay hydrated!

Otherwise a quiet and uneventful week ahead. Hhmm. That probably means a surprise is coming from Mother Nature.

I read insurers are leaving the state. 🥺
I heard that also and I wouldn't blame them. On the other hand we had no problem getting insurance but it cost an arm and a leg and a first born. I am 5 miles from the Gulf and not in a flood zone. I think with the cost of insurance being as high as it is insurance companies are making money. The executives are being compensated really well, imagine that.

It's a dammed lake. I think levels depend on the amount of water running in the rivers. There needs to be enough flow for fish, drinking, irrigation, etc. There may be treaties involved.
I was reading about it and there are "agreements" between the states but they expire this year. There has also been a drop in the ground water levels. Between flooding and drouts and hurricanes I am thinking WTF? Then there is ocean level rise and that really concerns me not to mention air pollution.

I put it in the microwave if too frozen....
A lot of the stuff, aka ice cream, you buy today is not ice cream. It is labeled frozen dairy desert or something like that because there is not enough cream in it to be called ice cream. Ice cream melts pretty quickly the frozen desert stuff has STUFF in it that does not melt too quickly.

My son in law is one. He is the kindest husband and father I ever met.
I'm also not surprised to hear that he's a really stellar individual (and I mean no disrespect to any profession) as I tend to find that people who "cheat death" on a daily basis are usually well-rounded, solid, grounded people.
That describes every lineman that I've personally known.

The River Naver is still one of the prolific rivers in Scotland and it was good to see so many salmon and sea trout in the pools. In the early part of the holiday low water and high temperatures kept them in the seas pools and estuary where I fished. After a little rain in the second week they moved up into the river proper.

It was good fishing in beautiful surroundings with just one minor mishap which my life vest in my waistcoat prevented becoming more serious. Damn seaweed is slippy underfoot when you are waist deep in a Scottish river.

Morning, spoonies
hope everyone slept well and are ready for a new week
let's see what the Early Birds are up to...
Groan...
Monday is just hours away and I am exhausted from the heat around here.
Where's the cooler weather?
🫂 🫂 Hope you get some relief, Rj. It's been really hot/humid this summer. Hydrate and take it easy!

I know the merciless power of water firsthand
Stay safe out there, @Boat1 🫂
beauty and power but often equally deadly

It was pretty awesome watching them. There were 4. They weren't that big, which is why we thought they were young ones.
They can grow to be amazingly large birds. So majestic
I love spotting one on an eagle cam
Dollywood Eagle Aviary 2
I'm really good with the advice. Following my own advice is always a crap shoot!
Aren't we all 🤭

Hiking the price is one strategy for getting out of a market. My LTD is doing that as are many others. Make it so expensive that no one can afford it without the company officially dropping that line of business.
Power just went out here. IDK why; I doubt it's weather related. I'm thankful now for the generator.
I found out through the power company app, Ring app, and Pulse Point app what caused the outage. A wildfire below power lines caused the lines to catch on fire! 🔥😱🔥
Yikes! Hope the fire stays far away... and the line workers making the repairs are safe.
Mom bought me a copy several years ago (first edition) at a library sale for 25 cents... I wouldn't take a hundred bucks for it.
Thanks, Boat! I like using honey in place of sugar for some things. I always buy raw, unfiltered, organic honey that is local to me.
I love the idea of raw, unfiltered, organic honey but I have to be careful given my reactions. The propolis can be a concern as well as pollen and other factors.
I do try to at least purchase regional honey when I do.
YAAAY!
Support your local pole dancers!
(AKA, linemen... they're some tough, brave SOBs!)

They are definitely a special breed! Not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure... I get dizzy just watching that last image
Morning everyone!
Morning, @Oldermom935 ! Thanks for the coffee!! :coffee:

We got our surprise last night - very strong thunderstorms. No twisters that I know of... at least not in my area. Power flickered once but held steady. Still stuck w/ Heat Advisories though. 🥵

It's complicated all right

all that STUFF is one reason why I don't tolerate most ice creams 🤷‍♀️

Very glad you were wearing a vest! Amazing images - thank you for sharing, @Greylag 🎣
Have a wonderful Monday all
Thanks - you and the rest of the Spoonies, too!! 🫂

Batten down the hatches
Last night's storm appears to have been an appetizer
After another day with Excessive Heat Warnings...
even stronger storms are headed in from Montana.
Fun and games begin around rush hour
Derecho (4-5 out of 5) with winds up to 75mph+, heavy rain, hail - possibly up to softball size.

Most of this party is supposed to skirt just south of me... 🤞
