The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Must not have had Coffman Starters on those.

(Coffman starter is the type of starter we got the phrase "Shotgun Start" from. Literally starting an engine with a shotgun shell).

I'm familiar with those! They're cool!

I've also used the hand-crank inertia starters. You crank em up to speed by hand, then you pull a T handle to engage the starter....
I fkn LOVED working on those old radial engines!

Happy Saturday... I'm caught up for the moment
know it won't last

Catch Up Part 1
Week two of training in the books. My cat is insanely happy to see me. Time to go to sleep in my own bed.
Remember how you said day 1 felt like sipping from a fire hose? And look at you now!!! ⭐
Thank you, Lilianna! This thread is so warm and everyone is so nice. I hope everyone has had a wonderful Friday and winding down nicely for the weekend!
Thanks, QQ. We like it. Nice oasis in the middle of Lit.
It's why we're so protective of the vibe.
Anyone's welcome, but if we're not a good fit, there's eleventy-billion other threads on Lit. Surely one of them will be your true match.
Get a life Greylag!
Case in Point - putting this one on Ignore
Hope you find a thread more to your liking as this one is clearly not a good match for you. Bye now.
West coast US. Where's everyone else from?
Midwest (one word, no spaces) :ROFLMAO:

That's KTITN... pronounced "kitten"?? Yeah, I can work with that
There was a “smoking room” where of course my mom was.
I will always miss my mom, but will never miss the smoking section!! 🚬
Not really. It’s so overgrown and mature that it makes a million tiny cherries, like the size of your pinky nail.
Good thing it's so pretty... helps balance all that mess
Wretched cocksuckers!!!
They don't deserve you.
The commune does . . . .
Right? And you'd have help, too!! We would all be pitching in with set up, cooking, cleaning, tear down. It wouldn't be a Potassium Solo. 🫂
Of course - she thinks so, too.
She took my spot on the bed where my shoulders go.
It's what she does.
30+ years ago when I had 2 kitties, my boy cat would do the same with my pillow. Once we sorted that out, he'd end up sleeping across my neck. Mind you, he was a 30 pound cat. :ROFLMAO:
(That's a titch over 2 stone or 13 kilos for our UK & European friends)

Wat is better at guiding the missiles than fueling them with want-to.
I'm hearing this from so many people these days!!
In the summer we go play bingo every other week: fundraiser for the animal rescue my wife volunteers for. I've won a few free drinks and food mostly lol
I do that w/ the charity fundraiser Meat Raffle. It's for a good cause. Friends and family love when I win - b/c one of them wins, too, as the winnings are almost never anything I can eat. :ROFLMAO:
I watch my co workers run into traffic all the time.... I used to try to stop them now I am like...good luck
HKU.... Hard Knocks University

Situational Awareness
do you offer a remedial class? and is there a discount for café members? asking for a friend... who is me 😁
pays to stay sharp... right, OM? 🔪

What if many of us want to watch???
Sign me up! I like to watch. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Yes, I believe some of us are packing cats.
If we're not, we should be 🤨 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛
more cats before more cowbell IMO :ROFLMAO:

All of that stuff is much better for the soul than working…
It doesn’t pay the bills as good tho. But maybe we could all live on less…
I can get onboard with minimalism
And today they're like, "What's a clutch?"
They really need to include  and  in the reaction emojis. :ROFLMAO:
Youth and enthusiasm rarely is a match for age and experience.
Love this story!
Reminds me of:

Catch up Part 2
My father told me he saw one of those motorcycles that are an automatic. He was morally offended.
never occurred to me that a motorcycle could be an automatic... I mean, why?
(Factual Note: Never have I ever ridden, much less driven a motorcycle. Had the chance when I was 19 but the driver balked at taking a virgin for a ride :cautious:)
Hey all! Guess what?
It's fucking snowing again! 🤬
*sigh* Of course it is
anyone else subbing "snowing" for "raining" in that Supertramp song? storyline's a bit off track for the post but...
Reminds me of learning to drive and stalling…
My dad: (look of disgust) more gas, less clutch. 😂 (This was his stock reply whenever I stalked, which was often in the beginning)
My dad said he wanted me to practice stalling... so I would know what to do when (not if) it happens IRL in the middle of traffic. Wise move, dad. Thanks.
Drove a load to Memphis this morning. Lots of tornado watching going on here.
Headed back to the sticks.
Glad you arrived safely... hoping for safe travels to your next destination, too.

Good Morning or whatever time applies...
Last night was hell for Lady K!
I feel helpless because there is nothing I can do to alleviate her pain. It's the worst torture imaginable.
I know I can speak freely here, but I'm sorry to say all this. Thanks for being here for me. 💜 🫂 :rose:
Always and forever for you Rj... You and Lady K and always in our thoughts and prayers 🙏 hun.❤️🌹
Don't stress sharing. It's kinda what this thread is for. Good and bad. You have empathetic ears here that aren't judging or rolling eyes.
Keep us informed so we can keep you in our thoughts. ☀️🙏
So sorry to hear this. Please remember you are in our thoughts and prayers!
RJ - love and healing thoughts to you and Mrs RJ.
I'll echo the rest - always reach out when you need. That's part of what we're here for at the café like an unwritten rule of the café. ❤️
You just reminded me of an old timer (aircraft mechanic) WWII Vet, who pull started a DC-3 engine.
He threw a loop over a prop blade, wrapped the rope around the hub, tied it to a jeep and took off! 🤣
They didn't ask "how to" or listen to "you can't"... they just saw the problem and tried a solution, sometimes more than one, to get the job done. We could use a bit more of that POV these days IMO

Turns out I'm familiar, too (from movies and documentaries) - just never knew the name for it.

I'm partial to the classic movies... erm, I guess they're both considered classic now, technically?
And a bit of an info clip on them, too
So, all you nurses out here. What or how do you treat what I'm guessing is Achilles tendonitis.
Trying gentile stretching, light walking right now.
Rest ice compress elevate. Take it easy when painful. Ibuprofen if you can tolerate.... gentle stretching and massage if not painful... I would say if it goes on or worsens make appt with doc to .make sure
I'm not one of the medical members at the café, but I have Achilles Tendonitis and this is exactly what I was going to say b/c it's exactly what my doctors tell me, too. Except I need to self-care without the NSAIDS b/c of other medical stuff I have going on.

My only add... do anything to avoid surgery. I don't want to fear monger, so check w/ your doctor regarding surgery, but IMO PT has much higher odds for success.

Best of luck to you!!
The management was traumatised by bloody Bingo.
People in the US talk about how serious folks take their Bingo. Then I pipe up and say, "Serious Bingo? The US has nothing on Scotland!!" ... and I only played a couple times while I was there. Enough to learn you zip your lip when the game resumes!! That includes whispers... save it for the next break or you may get a special break all your own.
Looks like grey and I have reached out.....😃
See...we mean it
🤗 Thank you @Greylag and @Missk_2022 for taking care of door duty at the café
@missk_ I think our posts crossed!
Good thing we're not working with proton beams 🤨
You are the sweet cuppity cake we all love

Glad ur training is behind you and you are ready to go!

Plus your back home and your cat is insanely happy to see you!
Heh, I wasn't clear. I'm back home for the weekend. I head back tomorrow. What should have been 2.5 weeks out of town may stretch to 4 depending on factors outside my control. That said, it's sunny outside and in the 50s, my cat is deliriously happy to have me home, and I have absolutely nothing beside laundry left to do today. I plan to enjoy that.

So, all you nurses out here. What or how do you treat what I'm guessing is Achilles tendonitis. Calf is sore, but below the head of the muscle. Seems to be tendon or maybe soleus. Annoying as hell, and hurts to walk. Going on a week now. Some days worse than others.

I have talked to this lot about this with my plantar fascism in my left foot. I was hating Life. I went to a (young) foot doctor and she was kindly and helpful but I think I got better advice here, and I did some thinking.

Hold on to your testicles . . . .

Freeze a bottle of water and roll it under your foot some. Ice packs are decent, too. The plantar and the Achilles both make things feel tight in your calfs. Best way to stretch those is on a stair, heels over the edge and down to pull the calfs. Make sure you hold onto the rail so as not to lose your balance. 2-3-4 minutes a day is quite helpful. I found some shoe inserts with more arch support to be helpful, too. Walmart has some stuff in the foot section at the pharmacy that helps, too, to keep a bit of pressure up on the plantar. It's all tied together.

Of this mixed bag of stuff, I think the stretching has been of the greatest benefit.

I appreciate that the company I'm training with has a mandatory stretching exercise every morning (we join a teams call on our phones) and they encourage us to stretch again after lunch. Nice to work for people who don't just say "we care about your health and safety" they actually make time for both.

You're welcome. And I echo everyone else in saying you don't need to be sorry. That's what this group is about. Supporting each other. Sending you both all the good thoughts I have.

That's a damned fine idea. My issue is that I'm lame about keeping a stretching schedule.

What a day. Because we had the water heater leak a few weeks ago, we are cleaning up the basement.

Pulled out the drop ceiling today.

Cleaned cleaned and then cleaned some more. We have a cleaning and mold remediation team coming on Monday.

And had a bunch of wood to split today too, so got a half cord done.

Now wife and I going to see Murphy’s law and agnostic front tonght in Jersey city.

I’ll haveta catch up later.

There are two forms of motivations. If you don't join on a regular basis one of the soops will call to find out what's been going on. On the other hand, the area manager told our class that he's rewarded a random person from a given call will lunch on the company at least once a month for the last year. Let's see....five minutes paid to listen to a brief safety talk and stretch with the possibility of a $25 gift card to my preferred lunch spot, or a call from my supervisor asking why I haven't been joining in...easy choice for me. :)
