My favourite Thatcher story is that she unwittingly implemented the education policy of a founder member (Ellen Wilkinson) of the British Communist Party. Jenny Lee introduced the Comprehensive Schools legislation in 1967 but she had been well schooled in the concept whilst working with Atlee's firebrand Education Minister, Ellen Wilkinson between 1945 and 47. Wilkinson already had her work cut out to implement the 1944 Education Act and get the School leaving age up to 14 then 15 before she suddenly died in late 1947.

any trade union ballot for action needs a return of over 50% of their membership. johnson claimed that he had 18million votes at the last general election, but the next primeminister will be decided by the majority of the 200k members of the tory party still alive at that point. if they bother to vote at all. with a severe weather warning representing a threat to life in the elderly forecast for this week then the turn out could be low. even if they all vote we could have a pm decided by 100,001 xenophobic racist europe hating Alzheimer's sufferers longing for a return back to the 1950s.
