TGiving Day Eats

Thinking I want to try to deep fry a turkey, plus I make my own cranberry sauce. Maaaybe sausage stuffing. Depends on how many people will show up. Plan on everybody bring a side of somesort.

I like deep fried turkey. Plus there's like ZERO calories with all that deep frying, right?

I will bring...Wine, K? :)

So.

Whatcha cooking on that day??
Family traditional?
Fusion?

Turducken? ToFurkey?

Telllll Meeeeee.

:D

Tofurkey is an abomination of god & nature.
Tofurkey: If you need to "URK", try ToFurkey.
Tofurkey: You CAN add enough salt & fat to make ANYTHING edible.
Tofurkey: When you really, really want your friends relatives to never have T-day at your house ever again.

A Smoked turkey, an oven roasted turkey, cornbread dressing, sourdough dressing, mashed potatoes, praline sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, ramen coleslaw (don't judge, it's a tradition), yeast rolls, home made cranberry relish, and at least three pies- pecan (my personal favorite), pumpkin, and buttermilk for sure. I'd my dad has his way I'll have to make a cherry one too.

Yup. That about does it. I'm already sick. Lol
OK, I choose the ViVi's dinner too. *calculates when I need to leave to get there by dinner time* What makes it praline sweet potato casserole? That sounds reeeeeaaaallly yum! Great. Now I got drool on my keyboard.

I am vegetarian, and no, have never had Tofurkey. But I do cook Field Roast Celebration Roast for Thanksgiving. It's really good. I fucking love turkey, and it's obviously not that good, but it's a pretty good substitute.

And peanut butter pie is actually pretty amazing. My husband's aunt always makes it for TG for some reason.

And I'll be at my MIL's house this year, so I will be bringing bottles and bottles of wine. None of those people drink, so it's all for me. Fuck yeah.

*raises hand*

I'll see if I can type up the recipe for you. It is TO DIE FOR!

I've done some great vegan shepherd's pies, eggplant parm, roasted squash casseroles, portobello mushrooms, etc.
.

What are your choices? We'll help you decide. ;)

Malpeque, Pickle Point, Wellfleet, or Beausoleil. I wanted Island Creeks but I can' get them right now. I also can't mix and match (well I can but I shouldn't) Oh and french Kiss are an option as well but despite their name, they probably aren't what I am after. I am thinking either the Pickle Points or the Wellfleets. I wouldn't mind Lady Chatterleys though. Decisions Decisions.....

I vote Beausoleil. Mainly 'cuz I like to say it. And I like their music.

In my house, I start off Thanksgiving Day by opening a bottle of Asti Spumante while I get the turkey in the oven. We usually go with the traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, corn, candied sweet potatoes, and mom always has to have turnips on the table. (Oh, almost forgot the lumpy gravy! Go mom!) For whatever reason, my in laws insist I make deviled eggs every year (it must be the horseradish I hide in there!). We often throw in a tray of ziti, too, to make sure the kids eat something. There is usually a tray of raw veggies and dip on the table, along with a pepperoni & cheese tray until dinner hits the table. I'm usually on my second bottle of Asti by the time I deal with the in-laws. ;) Pumpkin Pie, Dutch Apple Pie and/or Apple Caramel Walnut pie for dessert. And then....the leftover TURKEY SANDWICHES. God Bless 'Murica.

I cook the turkey, brined and everything. My secret weapon is my pellet grill that acts like a wood fired oven. Gives the bird just a hint of smoke without the full blown flavor of a smoked bird. Which I have done as well.

Um, yes!!

And I know, nothing beats turkey, but it's the best I can do. :)

Sounds delicious. Sadly, my MIL cooks TG dinner, and she doesn't do vegetables. Or whole grains. Everything out of a box or can. And if I bring anything to add to dinner (other than my veggie roast) she gets pissed at me.

I make a mean Xmas dinner though. :)

Tofurkey????? bleah! really wanna see me spew?

cook me some stuffing, mash taters with some ginger root, my own vegetarian gravy, pumpkin pie and since it could very well be my dad's last, make him his fav stuffed peppers. I'll soak my cooked rice in my own tomato sauce overnight, then stuff the peppers with the rice before cooking them in tomato sauce.

Having the traditional T-giving meal with turkey and dressing, sweet taters, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, hot rolls, and anything else with lots of calories and fat grams. All kinds of desserts will be there, but nothing makes it T-giving dinner like a slice of pecan pie, topped with a dab of whipped cream.

I am not sure I can even mention Tofurkey at our dinner table. Some would think I was saying a naughty word.

Everyone sharing a bottle of wine and toasting to remember those who are no longer with us, makes T-giving special. And, of course, remembering to be more thankful for all of life's blessings.

It's a Sunday roast right?

With yams, whatever yams are

And without Yorkshire pudding ...you guys simply don't know what you're missing :D

That's Christmas dinner.

Mom makes her Yorkshire in a 9 x 12 Pyrex dish using the roast beef fat and we cut it into squares. It rises high up and out of the dish on the edges and is flat and smooth in the middle. Ladle some beef drippings on it and it's sublime.
