That all depends on where the pictures are stored and what syntax you're using to display them.

With the vB IMG tags, the picture has to be someplace that is accessible to the web and be a direct URL to an image file. That generally means that a picture linked with the IMG tags is NOT stored on the same server as Literotica.

Some of those servers block hotlinking, or block access after a certain number of bytes are downloaded from the site. Sometimes those other sites are down, overloaded, or just slow -- The vBulletin software only waits a few seconds for and image to begin loading before it gives up on it.

In your signature line, you can use the HTML "IMG SRC" syntax and use images that are referenced by scripts and program URLs -- like the attachment.php from an image uploaded to Lit's database as an attachment. That gives you a broader range of images to display and a bit longer for the images to begin to load. However, you also run into delays from searching large databases, script errors, and the like that can cause an image to display intermittantly.

Sometimes, you'll encounter an image that displays for you but others complain they can't see it; those are caused by the image being stored in your temporary internet files for quick local access, but theimage NOT being in others' temporary internet files and loading too slow to display or being blocked.

You can link a picture that is password protected that will display for you (because you're logged in to the site hosting it) but not display for others (because they don't have your access to the site.)

In short, the problem can be caused by many different things, but it's usually a case of timing and building the page with material from different sites.

~ also ~ if I save a pic to fav's I know how to insert it in my post ~ how can I shrink that same pic and still save it to favorites so I can put it right in ~ not as an attachment? ~ Thank you ~

I'll guess that you're using WebTV or something similar where you're linking pictures from an online storage area for your e-mail?

You'll need to shrink the picture (or have someone resize it for you) and e-mail it back to where you can save it in your Favorites or upload it to a "personal webspace" that permits you to hotlink it to Lit's forums.

~ Harold ~ I thank you for your timely response but I'm not really understanding it ~ No, I don't use WebTV ~ I have AOL ~ when I find a picture I want to use I use the heart/bookmark and save it to MyFavorites ~ that allows me to put an image directly into the body of my post ~ by using the etc. ~ as a direct picture that can be looked at while the post is read ~ I have three different resizing programs but none of them allow me to shrink a picture and then put it BACK into MyFavorites ( unless there is a way I am as yet unaware of ) instead the resized picture has to go into a file with a file name and can then only be added to a post by using an upload/attachment link ~ which to me spoils the effect so I don't want to do it that way ~ ~ do you have a site address that I can go to to learn more ~ I think the [img] method requires a direct www address ~ if I create a web page and post the picture there in it's new size will that work? ~[/b]

Other than the vB code help page, I don't know of any site that explains the dynamics of hotlinking images from on site to another and the vB Help page doesn't explain much beyond the syntax.

Look for an old thread by me titled "Experiment in Progress" It has step by step instructions for using an attachment in your signature line.

Can't find your thread 'Experiment in Progress" I had a look.

I thought it would have been good for you to post the contents or link here.

I have done -- both -- several times in this thread; it keeps getting buried. It's usually easier to bump "Experiment in Progress" when people can't find it.

Yep I know, I would bump it, if I could find it!

Where is it?
In the How to?

I searched the title and your name.
Didn't find it

It's here in the How To Forum, but I'm sure it's been longer than the default three months ago limit on searchs; that might be why you can't find it.

https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42602

(It was the 220th thread in the How To forum (of 838), on page nine, in the search results for my posts in the How To Forum.)

It's been bumped.

Thank you ahead of time ~

The line under the quote indicates that it's a a part of the hyperlink statement, along with both images. Removing it requires redefining the default hyperlink settings to use something other than underlining to identify a hyperlink.

I think the right-hand image isn't aligning properly because you're missing an explicit "close anchor" (</a>) tag in your signature -- at least the View/Source option doesn't show one.

When you use HTML in your signature, you need to make sure that it's a complete block of HTML code with all of the commands closed properly.

Perhaps if you'll post your complete signature code, I or one of the true HTML gurus can spot your error better. The View/Source option doesn't always show what you put in your signature; it only shows what the site sent to my computer.

And why ~ when I posted this ~ did it go wider than the other posts ~ I hate that ~

words instead of link?

I haven't read the whole thread, I started out ok,
but my eyes are seeing double and I just want to know
how to make a link with a word or words, neat and
underlined, instead of all the loooong forumidattachmentphp=?
thingies, please??
pretty please?
Thanks ever so much :)

Tabby...highlight the addy you want to link to and click copy

then in your response box you'll see a button marked http://

click that button and type what you want the link to be called...ie: My Stories and then click ok... it opens again... delete the http if it was in your original address and paste the addy in... click the addy and you got it..

both the pictures in my sig are links...

I'm not sure, but I think if you add </a> at the very end, it will close out the anchor tag you begin with and solve your problem. ("<a Href" means "anchor Hyperlink reference")

Also, change the vB Color and Font statements to HTML "<font ..." statements. I've seen a lot of peculiar problems caused by mixing vB tags and HTML tags in signature lines.

I'm not sure why you saw it as wider than the other posts, because it appears to be fine to me.

Posts that stretch wider than the others are usually caused by pictures or text-without-spaces that are bigger than the normal width of a post.

I tried what you said and REALLY messed it up. So you see what I have now. How do I put the quote right in between them?. This is frying my brain!

You might need to use tables for that

But I haven't played with them yet
