I'm trying to install an older game that I've run plenty before, on other computers. It won't install. Everything I've found on the internet concerning this specific problem (not too much) suggests that the CD is scratched - it gives me a cyclical redundancy error. However, it installs on my husband's computer just fine.

I need it on my computer though. Anyone know of a way to do that or what the hell sort of error source I should be looking at?

Having no trouble installing said software on your husbands computer, leads me to believe that you're using a different operating system than him. If that is the case, this could be your problem. Not all operating systems will accept the same software, but in a lot of cases there is usually an update for the display card that would help you run it.

If you're both using the same operating system ie, windows XP or windows Vista then I would suggest a reinstall of the operating system itself, as there may be a corrupt file stopping you.

There are many other possibilities, but these things need to be checked one at a time until the cause is apparent.

Thanks for trying to help.

We're both using XP. And mine's pretty much brand new.

well, without getting my hands on it, i would say that it could be the cd drive. some drives are extremely sensitive to scratches...even very small scratches. a suggestion would be to copy the cd to another and try that or copy the cd onto a jump drive.

good luck with this!

Thanks so much. I'll try that.

CD drives are REALLY easy to swap. Might help to do so for an afternoon?
