I've been on Literotica for a minute; the bulk of my output here dates back to seven or eight years ago, before I was making an actual living at freelancing. But I've enjoyed my time here, and it occurs to me that I have a particular fondness for many of the stories I've written on the site. It occurs to me to wonder: which are my favorites? I'm going to throw up my top ten. For those of you who have a top ten (or five, or whatever), I'd be interested to see them.

My top ten picks from my own stories:

1. Strange Hunger
A "rude girl" story (I have a bit of a thing for skinbyrds for some reason, I suppose I'll have to take that up with my therapist). Consistently my favorite Literotica entry. It's the story of mine that feels most authentic to me, featuring characters and situations who could actually exist. It's the story that leans least on Porn Tropes but is still erotic, and it's the story I'm most likely to re-read.

2. A Short Disclaimer
This actually came out of a conversation about Disclaimers on AH, and was my effort to create the most comically ludicrous example of the trope. Some of the most fun I've had writing just about anything, and to my knowledge is the only text I've written to be translated into Hungarian, so... that's a thing.

3. Heart Like a Lion
Another "rude girl" story. As I understand it, this was the first prize-winning story to emerge from the NC/R category (I'm sure there have been other examples since). I still enjoy it. The fact that it sent a certain entitled party into such a paranoid spiral that he tried to emulate the Sorcerous Formula that he imagined made it possible is a bonus, and remains funny as hell.

4-6. The Space Princess Stories.
These aren't live on Literotica anymore, but I published the first few novellas here. The first three of them, if I remember rightly. Extremely hardcore porn Star Trek parodies whose basic premise was "bikini girls in spaaaace!" They're ridiculous and very niche, but also the most consistently profitable erotica I've ever written when I actually published them. (Shout out to Pippa Martinez and Uruk Press, whose faith in the concept made that possible.)

7. Miss Lilly's Spring Surprise.
Hot Teacher Porn featuring an analogue of Lily LaBeau. The first story I ever published here. Nothing too deep going on here, it's pure spank material, and I think that's one of its virtues.

8. The Game.
A story focused on NC/R roleplay. It was meant to be the beginning of a series, but I never got round to completing the series. It turned out this story was enough for me.

9. Running Riot.
Another "rude girl" story. This one borrows heavily on personal experience, but not in a straightforward way. I would probably rank this one higher if it had a more believable climax, but I still enjoy it.

10. Making the Scene in Room 116.
Sort of a "rude girl" story, but only tangentially. Basically a story designed to poke fun at the "interracial" genre and a specific sort of Karen who gets off on it. Not my most artful work, it has to be said. But I'm not embarrassed by it. It was a fun little attempt at a contest entry (this one didn't win anything).

Those are my top ten favorite Literotica outings from my personal perspective. I look forward to seeing others' picks: there are more than a few writers who have veritable libraries of stories on here, but even if you only have a handful of tales on the site (much like me) it can still be an interesting exercise.

(Is this lowkey an attempt to trawl for some good stories to read? Oh yes. And how. Non, je ne regrette rien.)

My Ruby stories: Garter Belts and Cigarettes, Garter Belts and Whiskey, a Desiderare, she also appears in my Mickey Spillane homage: When it's Safe to Die.

My Floating World series: The Floating World. Amanda is a favourite heroine. The three opening vignettes are essentially recounts of three cafes I frequented when I worked in the city. Other than one sentence, they are true stories.

A Girl on the Bus - started out as a 750 word piece, which continued. Includes a very early Covid section, the last two chapters.

Rope and Veil - the first of my Amelia stories, where I started taking "socially responsible" erotica seriously.

Songs of Seduction - Water. My first exploration of alternate sexualities, possibly my own favourite story. Written very quickly, one summer.

Songs of Seduction - Silk and Skin. A transgender, sibcest, older woman story. Not your usual combination.

That'll do.

A chance for shameless self-promotion? Where do I sign šŸ˜¬?

So my top five, in descending order. This is not really related to popularity (though some have received approbation), more the ones I like best, or which meant something to me.

1. Coleoidphilia

Who would have thought that the crowdsourced challenge of writing a tentacle porn story would bring out the best in me? Although there is still a sneaky autobiographical element buried in the plot, moving away from my familiar territory was a tonic. This is - believe it or not - an attempt at a hard Sci-Fi story, with four sex scenes gratuitously sprinkled through it. More ideas than in all my other stories put together and a blast to write. Iā€™m very proud of it.

2. Fragile

Musings on the human condition, loneliness, bereavement and moving on. Fun right? But with a blow job thrown in. My most grown-up story. Not very popular (perhaps understandably), but interesting for me to write something other than a sex romp.

3. The Pornstar Experience

A sex romp šŸ˜¬. But I hope one with a heart. Themes about the relationship between adult content creators and adult content consumers, and the lines between love, lust and friendship. A commission (no money involved) with a basic story structure provided, so an interesting thing to attempt as a writer. A lowly rated work, but I like it.

4. Wanting to be Wanted

My first baby. While containing some fabricated elements as well, the story of losing your virginity is always going to be close to the authorā€™s heart. The first thing I wrote since college.

5. Waking Up

A testament to love and an announcement. A very personal story, which is my least popular work, but means a lot to me.

The Gold Dollar Girls See also: The Gold Dollar Girls Return White Castle Christmas

My favorite, mostly because I just love and relate to these characters so well. Roxanne, Clover, Misty and Kayla are dancers at a run down strip club in a rusty industrial town. Each faces, in a different way, an aspect of being a sex worker. But, at its heart, it's a story about female friendship. I think it's sweet and gritty and funny, all at once. White Castle Christmas won the Readers Choice for Best Humor story of 2021

The Adventures of Ranger Ramona The Adventures of Ranger Ramona Ch. 2 See also:Isabel

When I was young, I made up adventure stories about "Ramona Greentree, Forest Ranger." Well, we both grew up. Ramona becomes a Maine forest ranger and gets assigned to a sleepy little post in the middle of nowhere. But even there, she finds adventures, sexual and otherwise. The two chapters are essentially one long story. Isabel is a prequel, featuring the backstory of Ramona's friend and mentor.

Mary and Alvin: Chapter 6 "Bonnie's Bed"

In writing Mary and Alvin, my intent was to write "the biography of a relationship." It turned into a 36 chapter family saga, covering three generations over six decades. Mary is a recently divorcee from Los Angeles, who is starting a new life in Maine, where she meets and falls in Love with Alvin, a widower who is twenty years her senior. Two other stories in the series were award winners, but this one, in which we learn much of Alvin's backstory as he deals with the emotional turmoil of accepting that he has to move on from his memories if he wants new love, has always seemed like a breakthrough for me as a writer. It works well as a standalone story, but hey, if you want to read the whole series...

Oyster River

A twist on the city mouse/country mouse trope. Laurel is a college girl from Massachusettts. On summer vacation in Maine, she meets Michelle, who works with her father on his lobster boat. They grow close, but then, abruptly separate. Years later, Laurel, unhappy with her life, comes to terms with her sexuality and returns to Maine, hoping to find a second chance.

Wild Birds of Maine

You might have noticed that second chances are a common theme in my writing. This is my most recent story, written for the Pink Orchid challenge. Emma is a widowed wild life photographer, stuck in her mourning until her friend convinces her to partner on starting a store for birders. Then, one day a man walks in to asks about a strange bird he has seen in his yard, and new opportunities emerge for her, both personally and professionally. I was very pleasantly surprised at the wonderful reaction to this story.

Wow, trying this was hard. I have 3 more Iā€™d add to my favorites list. I added them because I can. Does a series count as 10?

Iā€™m going to assume not

in no particular order

1. First days as a slut. 11 chapters. Itā€™s just so dirty I love it.
2. Labor Day gang bang - I love the idea of multiple men
3. You only think youā€™re in control (worth reading the over 300 comments)
4. Becoming a hot mom at the lake house. - really dirty sex.
5. Alisa and Mark, a romance - a fun romp
6. Bringing dad to life - very sensitive story.
7. The balcony - one of my fantasies with elements of truth
8. I did it - one of my fantasies with elements of truth
9. He let them have me. 4 chapters - A crowd pleaser.
10. My experiences in swinging. - Describing what the lifestyle is really like.

Accepting her for dad - very sensitive story
Gang banged by older men - one of my earliest sexual fantasies. I read a similar story in penthouse letters.
The beach - a fantasy for my husband.

An author can not rank their own works.

A reader has to do that.

FTR.....I hope that some reader out there would rank my works.

I think it would be awesome and I'd love to dialogue with them.

Fuck, you guys want me to post LINKS???

That's like, my Kryptonite šŸ˜†.

Looks like some fun stories by you all I need to check out.

OK, seriously: that's some funny stuff.

Reminds me a little of my Elves Gone Wild Christmas story lol.

And yeah, as another commenter put it, very Douglas Adams.

Of course an author can rate their own work, using their own criteria. I've got a pretty clear idea in my head as to which stories I think are "better" as I define "better". It may not be the same criteria a reader might apply, but so what? Most readers aren't writers, so they could well be looking at different aspects of storytelling.

I just did. :D So I guess it can be done.

My rankings are, of course, not likely to be indicative of how readers would rank them. But I find it useful to have a clear idea of which of my own works land best for me, and why. Of course not everyone will be interested in doing so, that's perfectly cool.

Thanks, mate! And I'll have to check that story out.

I don't think an author can really be 100% unbias when it comes to their own work.
They aren't going to put out something out there if they thought it was dogshit.

Not so much a push for you or anyone else to actually read it (although it is short, just fyi) But more so to see if I can figure out story links lol.

@EmilyMiller showed me how to do it properly once and I still managed to fuck it up.

Edit: fuck me gently with a chainsaw. Why can't I figure this out?

You're right, all authors would have some sort of a self-bias (or self delusion), but that doesn't stop us having our own sense of, "Whoa, that story's good" versus, "Hmmm, could have tried a bit harder on that one."
