Taylor Swift

I don't get it.

No great vocals, seems childish for a woman in her 30s, fluffy with no substance. Dunno.

Or is it just me?

GS calm the fuck down I know you love her.
It is all about the performance and auto tune these days. There just aren’t that many great voices anymore.
I will take Whitney Houston any day then all the sparkles and light shows.

I don't underestimate Taylor Swift, but on the other hand I don't get her popularity either. I am more of a hard rocker and Tina Turner is my fav though Bonnie Rait is great too. Taylor is an economic tour de force.

Her tunes are catchy. But not really listened to her.

I like Christina Aguillera, pink and Tina Turner. I'm quite eclectic and also like cypress hill, nwa, Foo fighters, a little nirvana, prince, ooh I could go on.

Her music is not for me, but I have a lot of admiration for how she exists in the world. She donates to food banks in ever city she plays. She gave a HUGE bonuses to tour employees at the conclusion of her last tour. And, most importantly, she's encouraging young women to register and vote.

I honestly couldn't recognize one of her songs of it was played for me. Her music isn't for me, it was never meant to be for my demographic. That said, I agree with the Muppet. She does a lot of good things with her fame and influence.
There is a lot of oversaturation in her media coverage, though.

Ditto....

While I do recognize the name, I never paid any attention to her until she started dating Travis Kelce. Now my thoughts are more about what they would look like doing the dirty. Being a bit cynical, I tend to wonder how many of these types or pairings are just about getting more media coverage. I am sure they have both increased their revenue because of this relationship.

I know very little about Taylor or her music.. I assumed (and I'm probably wrong) it was more along the lines of bubble gum pop. To be fair, I thought the same thing about Christina Aguilera until I heard/saw the work she did for the movie Burlesque...

In her thirties now, but has been around since her teens and I think her fanbase are the ones that started following her then, and the new ones are teens now.

Not that she's awful, but there is no way she's good enough for that kind of hype. I really don't get the people who think she's edgy in anyway. Teenage angst, which she still writes, and adult angst are different.

But she's generous with her money, and seems to care about her fans so I'll give her some props.

On the other hand, dating an obnoxious dipshit who plays for a team that has always covered for and enabled woman beaters-another arrested a week or so ago- isn't a great look for Miss "Metoo" and considers herself a role model for young women.

I'm no fan of this kind of music , and yes her vocals are not great.. However o have a lot respect for Achievements Her genre transitions changed the music industry, and opened a space for artists like Ariana Grande or Billie Elish . 14 Grammies, open war with Spotify and so on, before her 30th birthday..
it's not just talent or a voice that leads to success. Like breaking every record ever made . Look at her wiki.

I love Taylor Swift!!! Fantastic music, and love her standing up for people who are ignored. What’s the thread saying?

I feel sorry for her.She seemed like a generally OK person. She was a singer and made more money than God. I think she should have fallen in love and got married and raised a family so she could pass on her DNA and enjoy her "success". Now she's in her mid thirties. Now she's on the same path as Elvis, Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, etc. She will look back on missed opportunities for true happiness. It isn't as if she's going to progress as an artist. Her fertility is declining. She is bad at relationships for some reason. I just think it's sad.

I didn't know much about Taylor Swift until Travis Kelcy. I listened to her and she was ok but didn't rock my soul. I did look her up and was amazed. How did I miss all her success? Then I realized I am still rocking in the last century. It seems most of her fans are young girls? She grew up in the same part of PA where I lived. Anyway she is successful and I wish her all the best.

It can be a perplexing phenomenon when you try to figure it out. But the most important thing is that for an audience of mainly young girls she's not trashy with profanity laced lyrics. So in this case that's a win.

I'm not sure if I should continue to laugh at this response or feel sad for the person who posted it.
It has to be a post just to get a reaction. Well done

I think she’s awesome. She’s a brilliant songwriter, and she writes music that millions upon millions of people find very relatable. Her vocals are strong today. She’s done a lot of work to get there. She is a songwriter, first and foremost. She started performing as a teenager, and then spent several years battling an eating disorder that left her body (and her vocals) weak. Now? She’s strong and healthy and sounds amazing.

IMO, her best music is the stuff that doesn’t get the radio play. For every bubble gum hit like Shake It Off, there’s 3-4 with the deft poetry of My Tears Ricochet, Champagne Problems, or Marjorie.

As a society, we tend to downplay or trivialize art that is created to appeal to women, especially young women. Like it’s less impressive to fill every stadium in the world with young women than with old men? We mock ‘chick flicks’ or hallmark Christmas movies and lifetime movies as frivolous, but treat movies about literal comic book characters as mainstream action blockbusters to be taken seriously. So I think that a lot of the disparaging and downplaying of her talent stems from that bias.

Yes most of her fans are young girls. She was 16 or 17? when she got the Grammy . This was a first for county music and Nashville. She made some very clever decisions regarding her business but it always worked out for her. She didn't get rich and famous because she took her pants off or flashed her boobs at every camera. She worked. That makes the parents of the young fanbase happy.

She does know what she is doing. Apparently her shows are part of the attraction. People flying from here in the US to see her. Are you a fan?
