sympathy for my left-hand little finger

Stella, can we have an update? How are you doing?

I've been in contact with her regularly. The pinky is doing fine but the cast they have over it is driving her right crazy. She's back at work but typing, as you would imagine, goes very slowly. As of last night she fully expected to be well healed and back to normal by the first of September.

And she's like help repairing a chicken coop if anyone's interested . . .

Thanks, VM. Sorry to hear that the cast is driving her crazy, but if that's the worst of it, then she's doing fairly well.

Yeah, the cast is kinda smothering-feeling. I can get a pincher grasp with my thumb and index finger, but I can't angle even one finger down towards a keyboard, or a dinner plate, or a sewing machine bed or my own crotch...

The worst of it is the custom work that I can't do! A young man-- a real sonofabear-- came by last weekend, but he's getting ready to go back to school tomorrow.:(

Yeah, the cast is kinda smothering-feeling.

I had my leg in a cast for many months after it got shattered in a car accident, and believe me, I feel for you!

Do you have a partner with the sort of sense of humor that would enable her to help you change your cast from a major annoyance into an interesting form of bondage? :)

*laugh* I like your style, Stella!

update...

The left hand is out of the big sloppy heavy clunky cast, that's the good thing. What is not making me too happy though, is the slim, lightweight tight cradle that the tech molded for me--keeping my wrist at a certain angle, my four fingers bent about sixty degrees. It's got velcro straps holding it in place-- it has my fingers in a real bind. And it stays on for five weeks. ARRRGH! Claustrophobia!!!

I get to unwrap them once an hour to bend each finger separately, joint by joint. I must use my other hand to do this, and not stress the muscles or tendons on my entire left hand. I have freedom of thumb, though-- I am allowed to hold a sheet of paper. Double fuckityfuck.

I was looking at my leather stash, thinking I could make a cover for it, in black latigo with studs, or maybe fringed buckskin with beads.
.
BUT I'D NEED TWO HANDS TO DO IT!

Perhaps a little hot glue and fringing?

I'm sure that could be accomplished with one hand, teeth and just a bit of swearing...

Glad to hear you're on the mend, albeit slowly; however that will virtually guarantee full use of the damaged digit when all is said and done.

Double sided tape might be useful in decorating your cast, or glue sticks. Maybe feathers, stars and spangles in a Las Vegas theme. ;)

Hmmm... I can put the feathers and spangles on a woman and wear her on my arm...

Yep, that'll work-- You're a genius!:cattail:

Sorry to hear that you've got appendage claustrophobia -- people make light of it, but it DOES suck!

I hope you'll find so many interesting things to do during those five weeks that they'll fly by.

pictures anyone?

The soft cast got battered up real quick, and Duct Tape, of course, came to the rescue.
The stitches are... stitchy, and might squick a person of delicate sensibilities.

:kiss::kiss::kiss:

Kisses on your hurt bits.

So, nearly two weeks later, how are things going? Does your left hand still have all the usefulness of a lobster claw, or are you allowed a little more functionality by now?

*reads back* It looks like there's a tradition of healing kisses for your hand ... let me know where to put mine. :)
