"yes that would be nice Cassi. but i think we should bring david with us. he needs a bath too. and then i can feed him and you can come back up to put him to sleep while i enjoy a nice long soak in the water."

Cassi nodded as the plan sounded reasonable so she left with Jenny and little David. Taking the tyke in hand and guiding them to the lean to. "You is shore goin to likes the water Miz Jenny."

Jenny turned to Alex she noded and smiled. " see you later then."

Cassi quickly checked the room and smiled as she found a fresh tub in the same spot they bathed earlier. Once they all were in the room Cassi tugged the curtain and started to undress the small squirming form.

"Please keep an ear open for David incase he begins to cry before i get back up to the room. "

Cassi nodded as she watched him carefully as well as tease his tiny belly with raspberry kisses. Then more delicately as she cuddled him gently. Once Jenny was in place the bathing began. Cassi laughed as the faces were ranging between funny and pouty as she lifted him from the water.

Cassi stepped out and fetched a few towels for the pair while Jenny nursed

" I will come up when you put a candle in the window Cassi. i know you two need a little privacy and frankly those walls are paper thin."

" yes, I thinks yore shore is right about that Miz Jenny." Taking David out with her after listening to Jenny's instructions.

" be sure to put him in the middle of the bed and pillows around him. oh and use the white little blanket.. i made it and he sleeps better when wraped in it."
Then added " oh Cassie. dont forget to put the candle up in the window when it's safe to return. im going to soak a bit and then go have a little drink in the bar with some of the other lady's i seen down there."

Cassi paused as she knew that Alex might feel peeved that Jenny was left alone. Yet she went ahead and took David back upstairs and laid him on the bed as Jenny requested

However it was the master bed that she put the lad down on and waited patiently for Alex to return.

Finding sleep was not coming he decided to go for a walk. He kissed the sleeping Julia gently on her forehead and rose, quietly pulling his trousers on and buckling his holsters. He threw a shirt on and grabbed his boots, walking quietly out of the room they shared. He passed a young looking couple in the hallway with what appeared to be their child and their slave. He tipped his hat to the lady as he passed, moving downstairs to sit in the tavern, his eyes searching around looking for anymore potential threats as the barkeep passed him a beer. Word seemed to have spread about his shooting earlier as most men kept their eyes obviously averted from him. He smirked slightly, he liked when people knew to just leave well alone. Sipping on his beer he thought about the girl lying in a now empty bed upstairs and all the things they had ahead of them....

Julia awoke with a start and turned to the pillow beside her. Her eyes opened wide as her mind registered he was not there. All she could think of was that he had left her. She felt her stomach turn as a new kind of panic overtook her. She had never felt this way about a man before. Perhaps he did not really want her around.

She stood up and found herself pacing the floor trying to figure out what she had done wrong. Soon she was beside herself and her eyes filled with unwanted tears. She sat on the edge of the bed weeping.

"Bartender, Please pour the gentleman another beer on me." I laid the money on the bar and took the side exit out of the building. A strange fellow, that one in there. Not a word spoken. OH well and slowly stepped up on the raised walk and took a seat out of the lamps light in the shadows and just watched the movement of people as they moved around.

Then a saw a familar shape glide out of the shadows and walk to the church and enter. I rose from the bench and I slowly walked up the stree t towards the church and trying to stay in the shadows. I quietly approached the church and loooked inside and Jenny was in a pew praying.

I waited several minutes and I to entered the church, removing my hat, and walled down the aisle and entered the Pew behind Jenny and sat there in the quiet of this holy place. Jenny turned and I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"He's in a good place now. He is looking down on you and probably taking care of you too." I whispered quietly to Jenny. Her eyes wer red and for the first time I saw tears there. "Buck up there Jenny, you have little David to think about and he need's you more now then ever before."

I moved up and sat next to Jenny and placed my arm around her shoulders and just gently held her near. we sat like that for awhile. Neither of us saying or doing anything. We just sat.

"We have to be going Jenny", I said as quiet as I could. "We have a big day tomorrow. We have to fix the wagon and repack and then get ready for the trail. I think little David has been alone long enough for now."

I stood up and took Jenny's hand as she rose from the pew seat. I smilied down at her her and gave her little hand a slight reasuring squeeze.

As I walked with Jenny, my mind was on Cassi. I hope she was not mad when she returned to the room and not find me there. If I hadn't caught sight of Jenny going off up the street I would be in her arms now. but Jenny was also my resposiability too...another one of those damed if you do and damned if you don't. Well I am only a man, one man to look after two women and a baby.

feeling eyes on the back of her head. jenny turned her head slightly seeing Alex sitting there in the pew behind her own watching her. she could see the look of sympothy in his eyes. but was unable to say anything to him. turning back and looking up at the large cross at the front of the church. Feeling Alex place his large hand on her shoulder jenny looked down at her own hands and took a deep breath.

feeling the tears rising in her eyes again jenny wiped them away but was still unable to respond to this kind man next to her.

He moved up and sat next to her and placed his arm around her shoulders and just gently holding her near. laying her head on his wide chest jenny tryed to calm her ravaged emotions. we sat like that for awhile. Neither of us saying or doing anything. We just sat.

hearing his voice so softly speaking to her jenny still feeling as if there where a large rock in her throat mearly nodded her head and stood up next to him. steping out of the pew isle jenny started to walk through the large church doors leading to the street outside. but stoped and looked at Alex with out a word she turned and walked to the front of the church and taking a match from a small red jar she lit a candle and crossed herself.

moving back up the isle she met Alex at the doors and walked out onto the street and headed back to the inn. she felt him take her small hand in his own and give it a little sqweeze as if telling her with out words that she was going to be ok. and for the first time since their auwfull meeting she thought that maybe she would be.

looking up at him as they reached the door to the inn jenny gave a sad little smile and whispered " im sorry i ruined your night" he gave her a smile and ushered her into the building and up the stairs to their rooms. even though he did not say a word the feeling of his hand resting firmly on the small of her back was reassuring.

even still she could not help but wonder what cassi was going to think after waiting all this time for Alex only to have him walking into the room with her. she could only hope that Cassi would not be angery with her for ruining her night with him.

David was bundled well in the large Master bed, pillows surrounding him as he slept peacefully. The candle that had been in the window was out from burning too long but the lamp on the wall was dimmed enough to see where things were. The door to the second room was closed and Cassi was draped across it sound asleep dresssed only in her slip.

Cassi wanted to wait up for Alex but the warmth of the room and the way she was relaxed from the bath gave her one lonely alturnative.

steping into the dimly lit room Jenny seen right away that David was laying in the master bed. Cassi had taken care to put the pillows around him and wrap him in his blanket. but he was in the wrong bed.

feeling confused Jenny looked to the closed door to the smaller room and then to Alex. " why would she go into that room when this is youalls room?"
walking to the large bed jenny bent down and kissed the top of davids head.
and then moved to sit in a wooden chair that had been moved by the window some time before they had entered the room. she could feel teh fatigue moving over her and all she wanted to do was lay her head down and close her eyes.

looking to Alex who was still standing inside the door she watched as he closed it . still he just stood there. she felt unsure of what was going on so she did the only thing she felt she could she sat and she waited.

I closed the door and stood just inside and looked around the the room and then at the closed door. I walked over to the closed door and looked in and saw Cassi asleep on the bed. Leaving the door open I returned to the master room and walked over to Jenny. I knelt by her chair and took her hand in mine and gently kissed the top of it.

"Go to bed Jenny and sleep a peacefull sleep tonight. I be watching. Not to worry" and that said I stood and kissed her on her forehead and released her hand and went into the other room. I sat in a chair and removed my boots and placed them in the corner and then took off my shirt and hung it over the back of the chair. I opened the door and Jenny was streched out next to David still fulley clothed and sound asleep. I pulled the chair over next to the door between the rooms and sat.

I glanced from woman to woman and child and back again. It was a hard night for me as emotions within me rose and fell with the rising and falling of their breasts as they slept. Just before dawn I drifted of into a troubled sleep with no answers forth coming.

"In life there are no easy answers. Just the realization that you do the best you can. I dreamed about my dark skined beauty and I seemed to rest easy, but then the young mother and her baby crept into my my dream. I was becoming attached to the baby David. He was going to be a fine man one day. Jenny needed someone to love again. She was to young not to have that chance again. But not me. I had lost my heart to Cassi, right or wrong it belonged to her. I would look after Jenny and David for as long as she needed me. It was my duty as well as my honor. I was a man and I took my duty seriously and I hope everyone would understand in the morning. I slowly drifted off into a deeper sleep as a decision was made in my mind.

I did not get a hole lot of sleep, but I awoke more refreshed now that I had made a decision. The day was going to be brighter and the load I carried would be lighter. Another day, "THE START OF OUR NEW JOURNEY"

Cassi woke to a whimpering noise and when she slipped out of bed she took a cover with her and laid it over Masser Alex.

"Tain't no reason to be afussin in yore dreams.. everee things as good as can be." Then Cassi kissed his forehead gently before checking on Jenny and David.

Seeing them sleeping peacefully Cassi wandered back to the little bed and climbed into the warm blanket. She pondered on what she saw and worried that if someone opened the door they would think poorly of Alex.

Cassi was aware of the mixed feelings of the town folk pertaining to her color which was why she chose the smaller bedroom, she was protecting their secret. Even though it felt like heartbreak, she had to keep Masser Alex and Miz Jenny safe from the quick rage of a mob.. especially when some might lynch a man for messing with someone like Cassi

she could feel david nuzzling her breast trying to get to his breakfast his little wimpers filling the early morning air as he became more frantic in his persuit. opening her eyes and looked down at the hungry baby next to her. sitting up and lifting him into her arms she moved over to sit in the window. the sun was just begining to come up the sky was filled with an aray of colors and she could not resist the temptation to open the winow and let in the morning air.

david now loudly protesting the fact that his mother was taking overly long to get settled and feed him began to cry full heartedly. undoing her buttons quickly and quickly exposed her breast to the morning air. david smelling his mothers milk began to wiggle his head back and forth tryinng to capture her nipple in his mouthe. with a little help from jenny her had it and was suckling hungerly soon he settled down and was content to lay in his mothers arms taking his morning meal as she looked out the window.

the air was brisk this morning and the wind a little strong but to Jenny it felt wonderful. with the wind gently blwoing into her face she watched as te sun came up filling the sky with the morning light and the promise of a new day.
taking david and switching him to the other breast jenny looked down at his eyes. they where begining to lose the blue color that all baby's are born with and they where turning a dark brown. when the light hit them just right his eyes almost looked hazel. stroking his tiny cheek with her finger she couldn't help but feel that there would be alot of mornings like this one and it warmed her heart.

with a sigh jenny looked daown at her son who was once again almost asleep in her arms. "maybe i can get a little more rest since everyone is still asleep." she got up from her chair and moved to the large bed. laying david down in the center once again. puttingher dress back to rights she layed down next to the baby an dpulled the blankets up to her waist. the air coming in the window was cool and refreshing. soon jenny was in a light doze with her arm under her head and her hand resting gently on davids full little belly.

David's crying brought me back to the present and with half open eyes I saw Jenny feeding the baby. I remained as I was and didn't interup the feeding of the baby. I watched as she placed David back in the center of the bed and then fixed herself before lying back down again. In a few minuetes they were both asleep.

I then noticed the cover that someone, "Cassi", must have put over me early this morning after I had fallen to sleep. I glanced over and there she was with a smile on her lips as she lay warm and comfortable in the middle of the small bed. She must be having a pleasent dream to give her such a warm smile.

That smile I hoped thar she wouln't be to angry with me for missing last night. In my sleep i had come to realization of things and I was now going to accept things the way they were to be accepted. Cassi would be glad to hear that I had finally made a choice and a decision that was going to effect the rest of both oir lives. "that is if she will have me!!!!!" What a thought, I never even gave that posibility a seconds worth of time. Look at who now can't make up his mind. I smiled and rested until the sum was almost full up.

I rose, took my boots and stepped out into the hall and locked the door behind me. I went down to the wash house and cleaned up. I was still clean from my bath last night so it was just washing my face and waking myself up.

I went back inside and into the common room and asked the serving girl for a cup of coffee. I sat at one of the tables and drank the dark brew. I was the only one there and so it was very quiet. I started to lay out the days chours and things that had to be done.

I noticed the man at the end of the bar and he slightly nodded. I rose from the table and walked slowly across the room to the bar and approached the man at the other end.

"Hi", I said as I approached the man, "MY name is Alex Franks. I am traveling with my wife and newborn and a friend to help out." I offered my hand. "I am glad to meet you, friend!"

O'Shien just ignored the man, not wanting to get involved with anyone who had made a scene like he did. He just wanted to enjoy his drink in silence. He nodded his thanks to the man for the extra drink and took a long pull as the man left. An odd fellow, open and honest in a land that usually punishes such traits. He shrugged slighty and threw the bartender a coin to cover his other expenses. He sighed as he walked outside, looking around the town in the dwindling light. It was quite surreal, almost as if he was seeing something from outside his own body. Amazing the way the land could look so peaceful, so welcoming in the setting sunlight. O'Shien knew better though, this was a land that punished the weak, that took its toll on the people and left them hardened... he looked at the church and sighed, even if it was a Catholic church he briefly considered stopping in, paying his respects to God, but he hesitated. Had God been with him the past few years? He shook his head and turned, heading back inside the inn and upstairs.

hearing the noise drifting in through the open window jenny opened her eyes and looked around the room it was morning and the sun was shining in the window brightly. but the wind that came through was still chillie. jenny smiled as she stretched her arms over her head before turning on her side and looking down at her sleeping son next to her. moving off the bed as gently as she could jenny moved silently into the small bedroom next door and retreived her small bag of belongings that she had brought to the inn with her. taking it back into the master bedroom she sat it on the edge of the bed and went through it.

finding a dress that was a little less wrinkled than the one she wore to bed last night jenny undressed and sliped it over her head. doing up the buttons and slipping on her stalkings she looking down at herself she had to admit that the dress was much cherier than the ones she had been wearing lately. it was a pretty dress even if it had seen better days. the hem was a little frayed and there was a small tear near the waist but hardly noticable.

grabing a clean gown for the baby she turned to getting him dressed the little guy slept soundly through it all. taking him up and wraping him in the blanket she had made jenny kissed his soft cheek unable to resist kissing his little face at every opertunity. laying him back on the bed jenny pulled her boots back on and laced. not sure what to do since she noticed earlier that Alex had slipped from the room while they had all slept jenny tidied up the room folding and placing her and davids belongings into the small bag and making the bed.

finally with nothing left to do jenny sat and waited her stomach had begun to growl and she wondered if she should wake cassi to go down and have breakfast. but she couldn't bring herself to wake the poor woman who had been working so hard since they met. and who more than any had earned her right to sleep in a little this morning. so sat in the chair watchign the traffic below her window. the people walking to this place or that one as if in a great hurry.

I finished my cup of coffee and I took the stairs two at a time as I hurried to our rooms. I unlocked the door and let myself in and the first thing I saw was Jenny sitting by the window. I closed the door behind me and crossed the room over to her.

"Good Moring, Jenny,You look refreshed and radiant this morning. How is David? I am going to wake Cassi up now, we all have a lot talk about. So stay relaxed and we will be with you shortly."

I turned and walked into the other room and there she was, streching out in her sleep. I stood there and watched for a few moments and then I sat down on the side of the bed and gentley shook her awake. She mumered something and sat up rubbing the sleep from her eyes. I didn't give her a chance as I kissed her and then gave her a big bear hug.

"Morning Cassi, Time to get up, you old sleepy head." I smiled and then gave her time to realize where she was. I went out into the hall and brought in a fresh pitcher of water.

"You ladies get ready and then meet me down in the common room for breakfast. Jenny what do you want, coffee or tea? Cassi, I know coffee.
Do not waste time for I will order as soon as I get down there."

I picked up my hat and Sharps and went out the door and downstairs to the common room. I took the same table as the night before and sat down with my bck to the wall. I leaned the Sharps against the wall in easy reach.

The serving girl came out and I ordered a pot of coffee, a stack of hotcakes with butter and syrup, ham and eggs, no ham, just bacon would be alright. She said that the cook just made an apple strudle and I ordered that too.
Bring the coffee right out and the rest when it was ready. I would need three settings and a pitcher of water and glasses. She left and went into the kitchen with the order.

jenny was startled when the door to the room burst open and there stood Alex looking for all the world as if he was about to burst at the seams.

I am going to wake Cassi up now, we all have a lot talk about. So stay relaxed and we will be with you shortly." and then he was gone. through the small door closing it behind him.

jenny couldn't help it the man was just bursting this morning and it would seem he was having a hard time containing himself this morning. getting up jenny gathered david into her arms and opening her dress she let him nurse . she finished redoing her dress and was patting the baby's tiny back as Alex strode back into the room with a large grin on his face.

"You ladies get ready and then meet me down in the common room for breakfast. Jenny what do you want, coffee or tea? " giving a small shrug jenny answered swftly before he could move onto another topic. " tea would be lovely thank you"
with a nod he looed to Cassi who was still sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Cassi, I know coffee.Do not waste time for I will order as soon as I get down there."

he grabed up his sharps and he was out the door in a flash. Jenny held the baby in her arms rubbing her cheek on the baby's soft head as she waited for cassi to finish her morning routine. when cassi appeared in the door way she looked lovely and completely rested.

offering the other woman a smile jenny stood and walked toward her. still a little afriad that Cassi would be upset with her for Alex not showing up last night like he was supposed to. " are you ready then Cassi? i think he meant it when he told us to hurry. and i really would love a nice cup of hot tea."

When the serving girl returned with the pot of coffee, I also remembered that Jenny wanted a cup of tea. I asked the girl to fix a pot of tea and bring that on out too and some honey. I also remembered that I wanted some bisquets and so I asked for some with our order. They didnet have the bisquets, but had pan fresh cornbread.That sounded good, so I ordered that too. We were going to have a small feast for breakfast.

I hadn't eaten much last night and man I was Hungry this morning and I had a good appatite when I was in a good mood. An I was in a good mood.I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat back and slowly drank the dark brew while waiting for the ladies to join me.

After a quick struggle to yank out the thick mane to look presentable Cassi appeared at the doorway.

"Yes Ma'am I's ready." Cassi gathered her skirts and headed for the door and quickly the two women were headed to the dining hall. Cassi could smell the coffee aroma as they reached the end of the hall.

Cassi waited until Jenny was sitting down then she sat down and smiled at Alex. "I shore hopes yore not eatin my breakk'est too."

"Aye lass, we're both experiencing things foreign to us I believe... I have nae known need of another's company for many years, and ye are new to these feelings yerself." He kissed her forehead. "Let us get some sleep this night, a long day awaits." He pulled his clothing back off, helping her back into bed. He awoke once again in the middle of the night, but rather than leave he rolled over, pulling her close to him, delighting in the physical comfort. She stirred slightly, smiling at him and he found himself aroused again. He gently made love to her by the evening moonlight before falling asleep again.

He awoke early the next morning to find her already stirring, preparing herself for the journey ahead. "I thought perhaps we could get some breakfast before leaving town?" He asked her as he rose, searching for his clothing.

jenny sat down and tryed not to notice the looks their table was getting from the other diners. taking a sip of her tea jenny was amazed at the amount of food on their table. she heard Cassi tease Alex as she too lifted her cup of coffee to her smiling lips."I shore hopes yore not eatin my breakk'est too."

jenny started laughing at that becuase it sure looked as if Alex had done his best to order everything he could think of.as her laugher died jenny scooped some honey into her tea and stured it with her spoon. watching Alex and Cassi interacting with each other.

"Aye lass, we're both experiencing things foreign to us I believe... I have nae known need of another's company for many years, and ye are new to these feelings yerself." He kissed her forehead. "Let us get some sleep this night, a long day awaits." He pulled his clothing back off, helping her back into bed. He awoke once again in the middle of the night, but rather than leave he rolled over, pulling her close to him, delighting in the physical comfort. She stirred slightly, smiling at him and he found himself aroused again. He gently made love to her by the evening moonlight before falling asleep again.

He awoke early the next morning to find her already stirring, preparing herself for the journey ahead. "I thought perhaps we could get some breakfast before leaving town?" He asked her as he rose, searching for his clothing.

Julia woke early and looked at O'Shien as she thought of what he had said to her last night. He was right of course she was experiencing things she never thought she would. He was being very patient with her and she loved him for it. She was buttoning her shirt as O'Shien woke and spoke to her. She turned and smiled at him remembering their love making during the middle of the night.

"Yes, some breakfast would be nice, O'Shien"

She watched him dress and found passion stirring within her again but kept it under control as now was not the time for it.

I rose when the girls entered the dining room. I helped jenny to her seat and she took the baby from Cassi and Cassi sat down opposite. The Table was covered with food and several remarks was passed between us all.

"I shore hopes your not eatin my breakk'est too". Cassi said smiling as her eyes scanned the tabe. I stood and was placing the food on their plates as Jenny and then Cassi game me their requests. I filled my plate and sat down.

"Cassi, Guess what?" I asked, " the Cook has made fresch apple struddle! As soon as it cools, they are going to be bringing some out to us"

We all must have been hungryfor there was only the sounds of people eating. The scrapping og tableware against and and the musical clang as soons served up more food. I drank more coffee and continued to pack away a lot of food. I was reallly hungry. I hadn't eaten like this since before the war.

The serving girl cleaned off the dirty plates and serving dishes and said she would be back with the struddle shortly. She returned to the hitchen. David had woke up and was fussing and I gently took him from his mother and held him. He was a good baby. A fine boy.

About this time the sherriff entered with two men and a man with an apron came out of the kitchen and pointed over to our table. They talked some more and as they conversed, I slip the pistol out of my belt and laid it on the table under a napkin.

The four men walked over to our table and I haned the baby back to Jenny and Cassi stood and took the baby from Jenny and stood back against the wall.

"Good morning, I am Sherriff Collins of this county and I am told we have a problem here"

"There is no problem here, Sherriff Collins, maybe a misunderstanding, thats all"

"Well how long are you and your party going to remain in town?"

"We pland to repair our equipment and repack our wagon today, rest tonight and leave tomorrow moring after breakfast."

"Well OK then. You will just have to find a place where your colored can eat! She can't eat or stay here! do you understand what I am saying mr. Franks!."

"Sherriff, I just finished fighting a war, five years. Came home a year ago wounded and when I was home, I married my small sweet Jenny here. she had a hard time during child bearing and the birthing was very hard. Cassi our friend stayed with and helped my Jenny. Then shortly after my son was born. Georgia and Carperbaggers took my farm and crops and animals. Everything except the wagon, a pair of horsesand personal beloning. What did you do sherriff when Sherman was headed for Atlanta. Did you go and help or stay her nice and safe? How about you boys there in the back?

I paused, standing there with my hands on my hips. I look right at them, but they felt there was four of them and only me. Good odds if they menent to fight with fists, with guns they would loose.

"Now Sherriff Collins, My wife needs the extra help and so Cassi has to stay close with us. SHE STAYS WITH US! One more night, three more meals and we will be gone. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME! There is no problem and there will be no trouble, Just leave it alone." This time there was no noise, no talking in the dinning room as all eyes and ears were on us.

"Sherriff, If you want us gone, Get me a new wagon, a better wagon and we will pack ourselves and be out of town before noon. That's if you really want us gone with no trouble. A wagon for traveling. An extra wheel. a greese bucket, a water barrel and with an extra full tongue."

"OK OK meet me at the livery in a hour. I'll see what I can do. Come on boys, let's go." The sherriff turned and left the dinning room.

I helped Cassi back to her seat and I just sat down when the serving girl brought more coffee and tea and our apple strudel.

"Cassi, turn around slowly and look at who just walked in the dinning room door." Cassi gasped as she recognized Miss Julia. No, It couldn't be, but yes there she was and with the man I called ""Two Guns"".

jenny stood when the sherif and Alex began to talk moving around the tabel so she was standing beside Alex as any good wife would she stood next to him as she would have stoof next to her real husband if he had been there in alex's place. she kept sneaking glances at cassi who was holding a screaming david in her arms trying her best to stay out of the way and still calm the baby in her arms.

jenny hardly heard what was being said between the two men she was standing with. all she could hear was the crying of david his cry's of distress filling the room along with the angery words of the men.

at this point jenny had tears in her eyes as they started streaming down her cheeks she gave the sheriff and his men the most pathetic look she could muster up. the tears came easy she just had to think of her handsome husband and all the love she still had for him.

as Alex continued to talk to the sherif and his men jenny wraped her arms around one of alex's laing her cheek against the bisep.she could feel the tension coming off of alex in waves and she could feel his muscles moving under her cheek as she looked once again to the sheriff with her tear streak face.

"Now Sherriff Collins, My wife needs the extra help and so Cassi has to stay close with us. SHE STAYS WITH US! One more night, three more meals and we will be gone. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME! There is no problem and there will be no trouble, Just leave it alone." there was a long pause as the sheriff took in the three of them cassi against the wall with a screaming baby. david standing so strong and powerful before him defending his family and the pathetic looking jenny siting in her chair next to david clasping her hands in her lap looking for the world as if she would pass out at any moment.

"Sherriff, If you want us gone, Get me a new wagon, a better wagon and we will pack ourselves and be out of town before noon. That's if you really want us gone with no trouble. A wagon for traveling. An extra wheel. a greese bucket, a water barrel and with an extra full tongue." jenny could almost hear the sheiff thinking. as he once again took in their small group.

"OK OK meet me at the livery in a hour. I'll see what I can do. Come on boys, let's go." The sherriff turned and left the dinning room

jenny smiled brightly at cassi and alex. thinking they had one heck of a guy to protect them. especially cassi. watching as alex escorted cassi back to the table the screaming david in her arms. the serving girl had arrived with their strudle and she smell was heavenly. as she placed their plates infront of them jenny inhaled deeply. taking the baby from cassi as her and alex stood next to the table she held him close to her body and rocke him gently he soon settled down enough for jenny to take a few bites of her struddle.

alex was taking his seat when he whispered "Cassi, turn around slowly and look at who just walked in the dinning room door." Cassi gasped as she looked over her shoulder at the couple just entering the dining room. jenny turned and looked but did not reconize the man nore the woman with him so she went back to eating her struddle.

she rubbed some cream that had been placed on the table on davids gums and lips and watched as he made sucking motions with his mouthe. but he settled down and was content for the moment.

Cassi seemed to be aware when the local sheriff walked into the dining room. Her nerves immediately tensed as the star blazed in her eyes and she could almost feel the searing brand that it plugged on her soul.

The silence was deafening only broken with David's wailing as Cassi shivered fearing the worst was about to happen. She'd rather stay in the stables then have Masser Alex jailed or worse shot.

It was a good thing that they left cause Cassi was certain that she was ready to faint just as David went back to his mother's arms. The server was another angel in disguise. Cassi sat down and went to bring a shaking hand to her lips to take a small bite if she could even endure the inner fear that the sheriff would return with a lynching mob.

"Cassi, turn around slowly and look at who just walked in the dinning room door."

Cassi turned and gasped in surprise. "It's Miz Julia .. dem dogs must not found her. I'z shore glad ta sees her alivin."

However with everything that happened Cassi quickly lost her hunger for something sweet. "You know .. I's thinkin the room needs a packin.. caus I reckon we's gonna be aleavin shore soon."

Yet that slick true heart of hers premitted her to glide her hand along Alex's groin before she rose from the table. Cassi never uttered a word but her request was written in her actions as she gathered her skirts to go upstairs to pack
