Summer Science Fiction

I have to give praise to the show Penny Dreadful.

I've not seen an episode yet that hasn't surprised the hell out of me.

Damn good show. Comes on Showtime on Sunday night.

I am glad to read a positive review about this show. The previews were intriguing and DVR'd it but I haven't had time to watch them.

It's good to know I have something to look forward to.

The Leftovers

Anyone else plan to watch any of these shows?

I think this show looks fantastic. The writers, producers and actors have all done shows that I have liked.

The Leftovers is a must watch for me. I hope it lives up to the hype.

Despite the fact that it's now well over 4350 days later, it's still very watchable if you like zombies...

And "28 Weeks Later" was pretty good, too.

No thank you...Zombie movies don't interest me at all. Although I did watch World War Z - didn't like it at all, glad I didn't pay for it.

The SyFy channel used to be my favorite channel to watch...now, it's just another channel I flip past on my way to HBO or USA.

Well if zombie movies aren't for you, then no problem, although I do have to say that "Shaun of the Dead" and "Zombieland" are great for poking fun at the whole zombie genre.

I also stopped watching SyFy -- hated it when they changed the spelling to that -- but Helix was moderately interesting (and also a bit of an impending train wreck), and Dominon was okay. Haven't watched Defiance yet, although I'd like to. I'm glad to see original SF programming, even if it doesn't pan out all the way. You have to have a lot of flops sometimes before you get a good show.

Did anyone watch "The Last Ship?"

Damn, I missed it. I see, it's TNT, I rarely watch that channel, although Falling Skies is there.

There is a CBS series that looks promising - Scorpion, it's billed as a NCIS spinoff about a child genius, grown up and running his own company with other geniuses...anyway looks good.

Just watched "The Last Ship". Not bad, some of the acting is kind of stiff, but the premise isn't off the wall. But the plot seems to have a limited lifetime and there is already intrigue and villainy afoot.

*Spoilers*

So far the world governments have collapsed, 80% of the population is dead, nukes have been thrown around at each other and there seems to be only one naval ship left and they have the means to develop a cure for the pandemic virus that has swept around the world.

The problem I have is the captain of the ship (Eric Dane) almost seems to be playing his character from Grey's Anatomy. And Adan Baldwin, the ships Executive Officer, seems to be playing his part from Firefly. Just a feeling on my part.

And now the journey begins. :D
