Stupid Holiday Movies

Christmas Vacation is one of my favorites. Bad Santa is pretty funny too.

Yeah, Christmas Vacation is also one of my favorites. I watch it every year, faithfully, sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, usually more than once!

Another favorite of mine is the original Miracle on 34th Street, the NON colorized version.

Oh and A Charlie Brown Christmas, too! :D Love that tree!

I usually try to avoid the really stupid Christmas movies, but sometimes I just can't help myself. It's like watching a horrific car accident, you know you shouldn't stare, but you do anyway.

There's one with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers that I watch every year, can't remember the name of it.

Oh and A Christmas Story ("you'll put your eye out!") is, in my opinion, a stupid movie also, but I watch it every damn year anyway.

Oh and I can't forget another favorite, it falls under the Christmas Carol remake type movies: SCROOGED. (It may or may not fall under the silly/stupid category also)

I absolutely LOVE that movie. My favorite scene? When Carol Kane belts Bill Murray with a toaster.

There's the Christmas Spirit! And no, it doesn't have to be stupid and awful, but the more stupid and awful the better! Ketalia, so far, you're in the lead for having the most Christmas Spirit! I don't think my Henry Winkler version of Christmas Carol can beat out a He-Man & She-Ra Christmas. That's simply awesome!

HEE! Thank you! I have it already to watch when I get home from my sister's tomorrow night! I love my family but they can be really overwhelming. I love getting home so I can relax with the cats and watch bad Christmas movies. I must find this Henry Winkler version of Christmas Carol.... :D

Another new Christmas special I'm looking forward to seeing come 1 Dec is Disney/Pixar/ABC's Prep And Landing.

Of course if you want a really, really, really, bad -- worse than Santa conquers Mars, IMHO -- check out Elf; it's on nine times in December this year between CBS and USA network.

Ooh! Thanks for the idea on Prep and Landing. :) Set it up to tivo.

I'm expecting to see "Mamma Mia" and "batteries not included" on UK channels.

Ancient black and white versions of Charles Dickens are also popular (and cheap) - Great Expectations, Oliver Twist etc.

Captain Blood and Dr. Syn may swashbuckle again.

Some repeats worth recording are BBC Shakespeare productions.

Og

PS. They are all worth missing for the local amateur Pantomime productions -

"Oh No They Aren't!"

"Oh Yes They Are!!"

Oh! I forgot about Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. That's a good one. I keep meaning to buy the dvd.
Watch out for that icy patch! :D

We have to watch every incarnation of Frosty and Rudolph, regardless of how inane. Even if it's 'Rudolph and Godzilla Save Flag Day' we're all over that shit.

Oh, Yes, Ogg.
Dr Syn ?. the Vicar of Dymchurch on the edge of Romney Marsh [again] ? Oh yes please. Patrick MacGoohan on top form.

And do please give me a healthy dose of the Buckle & Swash; Crimson Pirate ? Yes please.

I think I missed Rudolph's Flag Day...will that be showing on the Family Channel or Hallmark

A little more of the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh? Loved that show as a kid!:D

Stupid politics. :( Pres Obama preempted Prep and Landing so I have to wait for next Tuesday for the premiere of the first High Def animated Christmas special. :(

Christmas movies? How about Die Hard and the first Lethal Weapon? Classics. :p

The SO and I watched Christmas Vacation last night. Being reminded that the movie is twenty years old almost ruined my enjoyment, though. Almost.

That's terrible! Wait...how did politics get into my thread! Is nothing sacred on this forum?

With annual spectaculars like Grandma Got Ran Over..., I'd say there is very, very, little "sacred" left in Christmas movies. I was just ticked that My TV switch over to ABC as scheduled and I couldn't figure out why I was atching the News instead of A Charley Brown Christmas to be followed by Prep and Landing. I certainly wasn't looking for a recap of the President's speech. :( I'm just lucky that I'm in the Pacific time zone so that I didn't get the actual speech. :p)

Sigh. Well, I was joking about politics being in my thread, because politics in AH threads has become a joke. But as you just expressed a decided political opinion, it looks like it's not a joke any longer :(

Ah, well, it was an enjoyable thread while it lasted.

This thread can still be saved!

Hurry! Post some Christmas-y stuff!

I rate the above on a one to ten scale as a mild 1.

We can DO this!! :D

We like to have Wassail around the holidays ETA: when we watch movies. This isn't my family's recipe. Actually ours doesn't have any tea and does have cider, but I'm in a hurry here to save the thread, so here you go:

So Called American Wassail

1 can (1 qt 14 oz size) pineapple juice
1 quart orange juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
5 tea bags
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks

Combine fruit juices. Steep tea in 2 1/2 qts boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Remove tea bags. In sauce pan combine remaining ingredients with 1 qt cold water - bring to a boil and boil 3 minutes. Strain. Just before serving combine juices, tea and spiced water and bring to a boil.

(Yes, blatantly taken from the internet.)

ETA: Dang!! This is a MOVIE thread. Um, this wassail is best drank in front of tacky Christmas programming.

Good move Honey, I think you've diffused the situation. Now if we could get you to dangle an ornament from that sweet nipple of yours, we'll be right back on track with things.
