Hello everyone.

This may seem painfully obvious to some of you, others, maybe not so much.

I haven't written a story here in many years. I have sent one in recently that was just now returned to me.

At least that is what it says.

I wrote it in MS Word and the message says I am to retrieve it- opening the file and make whatever adjustments.
Sounds good to me.

My problem, is, I can't seem to download the returned file or open it.

One clicky- the file itself with the paperclip icon- gives me a 404. One other clicky says remove file...I am hesitant to use that. And anything else seems nonproductive. I have looked at a couple faqs- no help there. I checked my email and spam- nothing there either.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dunno if you looked up your problem on google aside from checking FAQs. You can ask Microsoft forum(in answers.microsoft.com) and see if they can help. I pulled this up from someone asking about a similar problem to yours in the Microsoft answers forum. See if it helps:

______________________________________________

From your description, it seems that the specific file in your environment isn't saved in the correct place and now you can't open or upload it anymore in any places and the file pops up with the 404 error message.

"If yes, may I know whether you can use the Search feature on your computer to find the affected file? If yes, I'd like you to drag it to the OneDrive for Business site or the site library in SharePoint Online to see if you can open the file in Word Online as I'd like to check whether the affected file is corrupted.

I'd also like you to check whether the issue only occurs in the specific file. If you open a new file, edit and save it and then open it again, what's the result?

Meanwhile, I'd like you to check whether you are using the latest version number of the Office applications. If no, I suggest you update the version number, restart the computer and then do a test to see the result. Moreover, I'd like you to upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Word application you are using for our reference. You can access the page via clicking on File>Account.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Best Regards,

Cliff"

I'd suggest in the future backing up your work in or just outright using Google Docs or any other decent cloud based document service(Google Docs is pretty good and it's popular here. Plus, it's free). Keep in mind that there can be sometimes possible issues in the formatting if you just directly copy-paste from a word document like Microsoft Word to Google Docs as they are different programs. It should be fine especially if you're not using a lot of formatting tools, like formatting tools for paragraphs, but you might have to do some cleaning up if weird formatting issues pop up.

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding in what I was asking.

I have a copy of the word doc I sent to Lit.

Lit said okay, we are done with it, here, have it back and go over our edits.

I try to access the word doc they are sending to me via the Lit page that shows its availability

I clicked that paperclip and get the 404,

I don't think I should hit the remove file button, or should I?

This is the screen I get after I click on the document shown above

Ouch. Sorry, man. That's definitely gotta be frustrating. Have you tried messaging the site owner directly about the issue or checking out the Lit Tech Support?

I have not, I can. I find tech support to be slow or unresponsive in most cases. I thought I would try here, as, like at work, fellow users are sometimes more useful than tech support.

I do appreciate your responding.

Anytime, bro. I tried searching the forums but it doesn't seem too good. I'd message Laurel, the site owner, and drop a thread in the tech support before I do something drastic like deleting the thing and having to personally reedit it. But it's your choice on what you think is best here. If you message Laurel keep in mind she might not get back to you right away. She is pretty busy with running and maintaining the site, you know.

Well, I hope you can get the answers you need to resolve the issue. Good luck.

Thank you again.

I posted on the tech support page. We'll see.

I am looking at this from a different direction. Lit would return the file untouched. I have not had any MS Word doc sent back to me from Lit 'edited.' The comments about things wrong with the document are not part of the document. Those corrective issues are mentioned in their reply text on suggestions to address or advise to have a volunteer editor review your submission and then resubmit.

That said, I surmise you saved a copy, before you sent it to Lit, on your local drive. So go to your original document and open it - not the one Lit sent back. Make changes based on their suggestions and resubmit the changes deleting the one sent back from Lit. Alternatively, seek out a volunteer editor to assist with a review of your original and share that the doc was sent back by Lit as a heads up. Check if kenjisato is available to edit. He's quick to reply.

That's my read as well. The paperclip is indicating that the original file is attached to the form. Remove the attached file, make edits from the original, and attach the edited file to the form.

Hi
I'm facing the exact same issue with my story. Was your issue resolved? If there's a conversation thread which helped you resolve the issue (or if there's a ticket link in case it's still open), could you possibly link it here? Would be really helpful.

What's the reason for rejection you've been given?

The site uses a set of standard, generic, rejection notices, usually as a set of questions.

You won't receive a specific "point to" example from your story - the first notice is generic - we suspect the site uses word-bot for a first scan.

There won't be a conversation thread. You get the rejection notice, you tweak your content and resubmit. Repeat, if you 're unlucky. There's no discussion to and fro.

Thanks for replying.

The strange thing is, there's no reason for rejection mentioned. In the message I received, it only says that the notes have been mentioned in the same doc that I uploaded, and that I have to open that doc, make the necessary changes and then resubmit.

But the problem is, when I click on my uploaded doc link, it takes me to a 404 error page, similar to what OP has described in the images above (for reference: https://forum.literotica.com/threads/story-returned-help.1585864/post-96758489).

I'd love to make the changes and resubmit, but I'm just not sure what exactly the issue was. Should I take help from a volunteer editor and ask them to point out any possible issues they find?

The document you're trying to click into is your own - that's the submission page in the image you've shown.

What's the exact wording in the rejection notice you received? If there's no message, I'd try a resubmission with a Note to the Editor that no reason for rejection was given (if that is truly the case).

This might be some kind of system glitch - there's usually a generic rejection message (the site uses half a dozen, covering off the main problem areas).

You could also be coming unstuck trying to load a file. Copy Paste your text into the submission Form, Save Draft, Preview (make sure there's no unwanted html or links), Submit.
