Authors can turn off ratings, and the story will show with an x.xx rating on the author's page. Also, in the category listing, the rating will not show. However, if you find it via tags the rating will show!

Anyway, I thought this "glitch" was interesting.

I turn off my voting whenever my story earns a red H. Otherwise bashers will give my story enough 1 votes to remove the red H.

Literotica is supposed to remove bashing 1 votes but they don't do that with my stories for some unknown reason. Based on the quality of my stories, all the the votes should be a whole point higher 4's instead of 3's.

For whatever reason, there's a whole contention of angry, old, white men who don't like women writing erotica on a porn board and they take out their anger on my score.

Back in 2008, I had more than 300 red H's on my BostonFictionWriter account and they deleted all of them with 1 votes. So, now, I close the voting.

Nope. I don't vote for my own stories either.

I think stories need a minimum of 10 votes for the score to show.

Also, I haven't noticed stories getting targeted because of the H, but I found that they tend to get bombed whenever they make it onto the Hall of Fame list.

In your case, Freddie, they probably don't like male writers pretending to be female writers--and not too effectively. And a good many taking out anger on you scores over the years is because of what an asshat you've been on the board for years.

Nope. I don't vote for my own stories either.

I didn't until my third or fourth story, I read it through a few months after it posted and liked it so much I voted automatically, forgetting that "hey, that's my story."

A few days later the vote seemed to have been removed, but I wasn't sure. I started experimenting after a few more stories. I'm pretty sure that you MIGHT get a vote that counts once, but that subsequent votes when you're not logged in aren't counted or are swept away. Maybe.

Anyway I generally don't vote for myself, although I would think that you should be allowed a single vote for yourself.

Laurel has said that an author can vote his/her own story while logged in on the author account and that it will count, but my experimentation with that indicates it gets swept, so I think it's a "why bother?" proposition.

It most likely gets swept more because you probably go to the last page and vote so its not who you are, its the system does not think you read it.

Pre/post 2008 might have a lot to do with the infamous thread you were involved in is my guess.

I do agree-from the dozen or so I've read- your stories should be 4's not 3's.

Or they have an algorithm that detects you as a slavish fanboi for your stories, and hence not a valid voter.

I vote on mine to counterbalance the inevitable hate vote in the short term. I assume it and hate votes are swept in the long term.

Try not to fret it. Voting here cannot be made fair. It's not worth anyone's worry; if you care, that just gets the trolls all hot and sticky. And you know what that smells like.

Voting for yourself is also part of a strategy to get the red H by ten votes so you have the H on the new list. Doesn't matter if it eventually gets swept it served its purpose at the time.

That's a tip from one of the most popular authors here in a how to. (and one they spread to their voting block so they can always assure themselves an immediate H)
