Stolen story!

Toss a coin to see who gets who. Stella.

Damn, apparently 55 comments is all that myspace will allow, because mine's not showing up. It was a good one, too.

oops, my bad....it's on the next page...both of them. :D

I finally had five free minutes to compose a decent "official" letter notifying myspace of the copyright infringement. I hope someone there actually reads the letters and does something about it. The whole places seems like it's run by bots. Anyone else have luck getting help from there on any issue?

Again, thanks to everyone for the solidarity! We are mighty when we stand together in unity.

PS - I'm so damn proud of this whole group - not one of our comments used foul language and they were all properly punctuated! No wonder I love you all so much!

Okay, I added my post. I wonder what her fans will think when they read all the comments.

You created an account just so you could dogpile on this person?
Fer crissakes.

Fer crissakes.

Her fans are all lesbians, you might notice. I think at least some of them will be pissed off at the men who diss one of their own. Since men diss dykes so often in general.

I think that a man who wrote one of the stories would be justified. Otherwise, you guys will just be changing the focus from her wrong-doing to the persecution that men do to women. Sorry guys.

I really have to take exception to this. Yes, I did just open an account, and I will probably use it for other things, although maybe not. I felt an obligation to add my bit.

There are positive comments by 18 persons, one of them a man, so not ALL her fans are lesbians, although probably some of them are. How can you be so sure that all the others are lesbians. You don't have to be a lesbian to read and enjoy a story about lesbians, you know.

I don't know if she has stolen any of my stories or not. I haven't written a lot of lesbian stories. I am just joining in on what Logo referred to as a "cyber ass-kicking."

Personally, I think that wrong-doers should be chastised, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender or sexual orientation. Being a lesbian certainly doesn't excuse her plagiarism.

Oh, Box. This post is so.. Boxlike!

You felt an obligation to 'leave an insult.' I hope your insult was to the point, at least?

How can you be so sure that all the others are lesbians.

Call it an educated guess. Based on their photos and nicknames.

I haven't written a lot of lesbian stories.

Did you know that she takes stories and changes the sexes of the characters to make them into lesbian stories?

I am just joining in on what Logo referred to as a "cyber ass-kicking." "just" joining in.

You do know that there is a real person feeling your cyber boot? I often wonder if people understand that.

Personally, I think that wrong-doers should be chastised, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender or sexual orientation.

I think wrongdoers should be chastised in proportion to their crime. I think the best chastisement for this woman is to notify the original writers, and let them do the chastising. She may also be TOS'd from myspace and lycos. If she starts again, she'll get caught again. That's pretty chastising.

Being a lesbian certainly doesn't excuse her plagiarism.

Quite right. That wasn't my point at all.

My last plea for moderation;

By her posts, her thieving, her 'blurts' on her blog, this particular woman is self-deceiving, lonely, and in pretty bad shape-- her page backgrounds tell me that! She evidently works in hospice care, she says she holds people's hands while they die. It's not a job conducive to mental health.

Just saying.

So are you going to talk to her about writing stories herself?

:)

The plagiarizer still hasn't returned to the site or, at least hasn't left any new comments.

It is possible to read comments without actually logging into your MySpace account. I have my account set to notify me of blog comments, friend requests, etc. I logged out of MySpace and had a friend post a comment on one of my blogs, then I went to my email and clicked on the link and it allowed me to read the comment on the blog without logging back in. So perhaps that's what she's doing? Providing of course she has email notifications of blog comments and has her blog set to public view (which obviously she does if we are able to comment without being added as a friend)

Maybe she doesn't get online each and every day. I know people like that-- weirdos, but nice enough...

One thing this did was incite me to clean up my own page. Firefox allows me to block a lot of the apps that make pages load for five minutes, so it might be possible for me to even visit!

And maybe I'll update my own blog some.

lessee, whose fic can I steal...

Most of them were just names, such as Peaches or Cindy. Granted that they are women, can you tell a woman's sexual orientation from her name?

I haven't written a lot of lesbian stories.

Did you know that she takes stories and changes the sexes of the characters to make them into lesbian stories?

I was aware of that, at least in the case of Dragon Master/Mistress.

I am just joining in on what Logo referred to as a "cyber ass-kicking."

"just" joining in. You do know that there is a real person feeling your cyber boot? I often wonder if people understand that.

Of course. At least I presume the plagiarist is a real person, rather than a group of people. Personally, I think that wrong-doers should be chastised, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender or sexual orientation.

I agree. But, I think all those who are lauding the woman's stories should be made aware that they were plagiarized. I want to shame her. I don't know if any of my stories were stolen or not. She could very well have taken one of them and changed the gender of one of the chartacters, as you suggested earlier.

Being a lesbian certainly doesn't excuse her plagiarism.

I don't think much of her general honesty. She may be lying about that too. Not saying she is, but not saying she isn't either.

Are you suggesting she should plead not guilty by reason of insanity?

I hate to say it, but imitation isn't the highest form of flattery. Outright theft is much higher praise.

Data on the web can be cut&pasted more easily than blowing your nose. If you release anything into the datasphere, you've just got to assume that others will add it to personal anthologies or just present it over their own byline. Sometimes you can alert a webmaster to overt plagiarism, sometimes you can't.

I can offer only two suggestions. First, add your name at the bottom of the text. You might be surprised at how many plagiarists take the whole thing and leave your name in.

Second, revel in it. You, as a creator, are inherently ahead of the game. The plagiarist is always behind, and has a finite body of material to steal. You, the creator, always get new ideas out first, and you have an infinite supply of new ideas to work with. You're done with the idea they stole and have more on the way - until you start getting paid for your work, don't look back.

Well, see there this little thing known as intellectual property. Everything published on the web is copyright by the writer.

And another one called pride of creation. We work goddamn hared on this stuff-- some of do, at least-- and although I'm all about getting people to read my stories, I want all the kudos. That's the highest form of flattery I want-- I am not willing to share them with someone who did none of the work.

And there's something about blatant thievery that just pisses people off-- yanno?

And there is something people can do about it.

There is indeed.

Literotica webmasters have actually shut down entire sites before.

It was fun.

:D

Hey everyone -

I was on myspace tonight, tooling around for fresh blogs to read when I found one of my lit stories on someone else's page and not credited to me. You all might want to go check out her blog, because she has oodles of stories there - each written in a different voice and about very different subject matter.

http://www.myspace.com/jai501

You can access her blogs without being logged in or even being a member. I'd love to know if anyone else's stuff is there. Be sure to go past the first page of blog posts by clicking the teeny-tiny link that says "older."

PS - I wrote to the blog owner and PM'd Laurel already. I'm sure it will be taken care of soon!
Well, the myspace page is still there, but the blog entries with all the stories are gone.
