Originally the Tea Party Movement was to include both people on the right and the left. It was supposed to specifically avoid those sort of hot-button issues and concentrate on the idea that Washington is too big too bloated to bureaucracies in charge and the people have no voice. Had that message been hurt by people on the left we would have had a Donald Trump style Centrist president but it would not have been Donald Trump. It would have been someone much smarter. Think libertarian but less kookie.

The long since hijacked Tea Party Movement is as I said, still very much alive and well. They figured out that they are going to get nowhere on the national stage and they went simply local they have now taken over school boards local City councils Mayors offices, state legislatures, governorships. They now get to draw all the redistricting lines. The tea party has far more power than you might think.

That's always fascinating when people categorize and generalize huge groups of people to try to explain various social phenomenon.

Sometimes, just as you sagely point out above, it's the exact same people taking a different tack (tact? The sailing thing) for sometimes desparate reasons, but it's the same people you're talking about.

Other times for example when you're talking about income disparity you're talking about entirely different people. Statements like the rich get richer.
