Alternate RPG Campaign Setting Overview
by Richard Spake

1.) Starfleet is a Military Organization. Starfleet personnel are first and foremost both explorers and warriors who take their dual duties as explorers and defenders very seriously. Please note before your knees jerk about Starfleet being a military organization, please remember that military organizations are not inherently evil, only the politicians who control their activities can be considered evil when it is THEY who are the ones who set military policy. Starfleet is devoted to the peaceful expansion of the Federation through exploration of unexplored space, but is also devoted to the defense of the Federation, it's citizens, and allies.
A.) Starfleet is divided into Operational Commands, and they are; Galaxy Exploration Command, Military Operations Command, Merchant Marine Support Command, Colonization and Terraforming Operations Support Command, ect.
B.) Starfleet Marine Corps. The Starfleet Marine Corps act as the core of the Federation's front line ground combat forces that are pulled form the Local Defense Forces of individual Federation members.
C.) Starfleet Armed Response Teams (ART) have become the defacto Special Forces of Starfleet, and every Starfleet Vessels maintains one team that is composed of personnel drawn form each department onboard and provided with extensive training by the ship's Security Department (much like the Rapid Response Forces in the LUG Trek books).
D.) Starfleet has kept many of the same traditions and ideals of the old sailing navies of the late 19th and 20th centuries of Terra.
1.) A member of the Starfleet Marine Corps stands guard at each of the Turbolift doors that lead onto a Starships bridge, a Marine guard stands watch at the door to the Captain's and VIP Quarters, and an armed Marine guard acts as an escort for the Captain and VIPs while they are embarked onboard Starfleet Vessels.
2.) The Captain's Yeoman has become the captain's administrative assistant who takes care of the all of the paperwork that is necessary to keep a ship running. The duties and responsibilities of the Captain's Yeoman has become more in depth than they where since they have become more involved with the day to day running and administration of the ship itself. The Captain's Steward handles the more of a 'My Man Friday' by preparing meals and laying out the Captain's uniforms and other attire, co ordinating with the Captain's Yeoman to plan the Captain's daily routine, and pretty much anything else that needs to be done. Both the Captain's Yeoman and the Captain's Steward have quarters that are accessible form the "Captain's Passage" (in fact the Captain's Steward possess a 'Steward's Pantry' that is part of the Captain's living area that is actually a small room that can be used as both a quarters and food preparation area that is a foyer to their own Quarters since the Captain's Steward has the same hours as the Captain thus always on call).

The Captain's quarters include (but are not limited to); Captain's 'In Port' Stateroom, Captain's 'Underway' Stateroom, the Captain's Wardroom, the Captain's Galley, the Captain's Formal Dinning Room, and the Captain's Lounge. All of these spaces are connected by the "Captain's Passage" that provides a private access route to the Captain's Ready Room, and form there the Bridge.
3.) The Senior Starfleet Non Commissioned Officer (Enlisted Personnel) is referred to as either the "Chief of the Boat" or "Ship's Bosun," while the Senior Starfleet Marine Corps Non Commissioned Officer (Enlisted Personnel) is referred to as "Gunny" as a sign of respect by both Officer and Enlisted personnel.
4.) Each Starfleet vessel has it's own unique logo and crest that is utilized in patches and emblems related to it's operations. The logo is found on plates, cups, glasses, patches, uniforms, clothes, and patches that are worn on the right sleeve of the standard duty uniforms at the discretion of the ship's commanding officer.
5.) The ship's mess facilities are as follows;
A.) The Captain's Mess: The Captain's and VIP Mess is full service with real food prepared for each and every meal (unless other wise specified).
The Captain's Formal Dinning Room: Used for extremely formal occasions; such as ambassadorial banquets, first contact dinners, ect. The Captain's Formal Dinning Room is very rarely used onboard most Starfleet vessels, and many captain's find other uses for the space while not in use.
B.) Officer's Wardroom: The Officers Wardroom is full service replimat with real food prepared on request. The Officer's Wardroom is used by the ship's commissioned officers, their families and their guests.
C.) Chief's Mess: The Non Commissioned Officer's wardroom. The Chief's Mess is a semi full service Replimat where some real food preparation is undertaken. Used by the Ship's non commissioned officer's (E 7 to E 9), their families, and their guests.
D.) Forward Galley: The forward galley is a self service replimat primarily used by on duty enlisted personnel (E 1 to E 6).
E.) Aft Galley: The aft galley is a semi full service replimat that also serves some prepared real foods. The aft galley is used by enlisted personnel, their families, and their guests.
F.) The Ship's Lounge/Bar: The ship's lounge/bar is a full service dining facility that may, or may not bar personnel form wearing their uniforms since the location is meant to be a place to get way from the stresses of the daily grind of what ever tasks preformed that day. Many see ranks and uniforms as counter productive to this, and bar them all together. The host of the ship's lounge/bar answers to the ship's captain through the ship's counselor in an attempt to give the captain more insight into the psyche of the ship's crew. Many Starfleet vessels have civilian contractors who work in, and operate the ship's lounge/bar. Other vessels allow off duty personnel to manage, and work instead.

2.) There is more than just one Starfleet Academy. Each of the founding members of the United Federation of Planets has a major Starfleet Academy campus located on their homeworld (Terra, Vulcan, Centauri, Tellar, and Andor), and several other major coreworlds that have joined the Federation have just recently been allowed to open Starfleet Academy campuses (Betazed, Bolarus IX, and the Trill Homeworld). The most prestigious Starfleet Academy is located at San Francisco, California, United States of America (Terra). Each of the Starfleet Academies has a training starship that has served diligently and honourably in Starfleet until the wear and tear on it's superstructure has forced it's retirement form active duty. The most common Starship type that has been slated for his kind of assignment has been the Constellation class Explorer.
A.) Several of the major colony worlds have been allowed to open Starfleet Academy annexes for the academy located on their homeworlds. The most famous of these colonial academies is the facilities used by the Starfleet Marine Corps Academy located on Mars.

3.) The Federation still uses money (called the Federation Credit). The five strongest economies ironcly are the original founders of the Federation, while the new members such as Bolarus IX and the Trill homeworld have caught up with the rest of the Core Worlds by leaps and bounds and will challenge their dominance in economic and political affairs soon enough.
A.) The Federation Stock Exchange. The Federation Stock Exchange has undergone multiple changes to adapt and evolve to new technologies in it's long history. The introduction of Sub Space Communications has allowed the Federation Stock Exchange to allow the trade with the neighboring foreign powers.
B.) Replicators and the Economy. The Federation has established a strong economy that has remained quite diverse and vibrant through out it's history, and the invention of the Replicator almost caused the economy to enter a major recession. To counter this, the Federation has limited access to Replicators to government controlled outlets (such as Starfleet and Public Services/Works Agencies). While the replicator has all but eliminated the pains of poverty by allowing the local planetary governments to provide the most basic needs of their poorest of citizens. Everything past the basic needs to survive that cannot be replicated must be worked for and earned (luxury goods, and real food for example).

4.) Many of the FASA Trek Starships exist in the Orginal Series Movie Era, as does much of the more famous starship histories as well. I have extended this form the history formed by the many FASA Trek Campaigns my old gaming group and myself have created. In fact one of the more interesting Akira class has been named the USS Blackheart in honour of the missing Chandley class Frigate of the same name.
A.) The Klingon Brel class Bird of Prey and the K'vort class Crusiers were originally joint Romulan/Klingon designs (as per the original concept form Star Trek III: the Search for Spock, and FASA Trek) that was built during the brief Romulan Klingon technology exchanges that gave the Klingons cloaking devices and the Romulans Warp Drive. Both the Klingons and the Romulans use starships that have been based on this same structural design, but neither side wishes to admit that either side had anything to do with it's origin.

B.) The Romulans use more than one Warship design, and their warship classification is as follows; Warbirds are Starships of the Line (Dreadnoughts, Battleships, and Battlecruisers); Bird of Preys are their mid ranged warships that make up the bulk of their fleets (Heavy Cruisers, Cruisers, and Frigates); and Stormbirds are primarily smaller warships (Destroyers, Gunboats, and Escorts).
C.) Starfleet has had a very limited number of Dreadnoughts in it's inventory, and up until 2365 the three remaining Dreadnoughts where mothballed in orbit around the Trition (a moon of Neptune in the Sol System). With the on set of first the Klingon Federation War and the Dominion War Starfleet was forced to resurrected the classification of Dreadnought. In fact, the new Alliance class Dreadnought is actually a refit of the Galaxy class Explorers as seen in "All Good Things..." Before the Alliance class, Starfleet had the Kirov class Dreadnought (2291 2322, reclassified as Heavy Cruiser in 2322 and still in service), the Adamant class Heavy Dreadnought (2285 2312, reclassified as Heavy Cruiser in 2312 and still seen in limited service), the Federation class Dreadnought (2261 98), and the Napoleon class Dreadnought (2224 54).

5.) The USS Enterprise E remains as the flagship of the Federation, but has undergone several changes. While she has remained one of the prestigious commands in Starfleet, the Enterprise E has become one of the most highly visible Starfleet ships. It's presence has become required at many 'showing the flag' missions, and the location of the signing of membership for new or perspective Federation members (as seen in Star Trek: Insurrection).
A.) Picard has been promoted to Rear Admiral due to the losses of the Dominion War. He has retained the Enterprise E as his 'flagship' and kept much of it's senior staff onboard as perks of being promoted to flag rank. Picard has excepted the unofficial title as a Federation Ambassador without Portfolio, thus allowing him more power to speak as a voice for the Federation Council.
B.) William Thomas Riker was promoted to Captian in 2374 and given command of the USS Hornet (Steamrunner class). Under the command of Captain Riker, the Hornet became one of the most famous of the Steamrunner class Heavy Frigates and earned a place of honour in Starfleet history. His ability to command the Hornet under adverse conditions proved to Starfleet Command that Picard was right to request his return to the Enterprise E as it's Commanding Officer.
C.) Geordi LaForge was promoted to Commander in 2374 and assigned as Riker's first officer onboard the USS Hornet (please note that LaForge served as the Hornet's first officer and chief engineer at the same time). Riker was able to bring LaForge back to the Enterprise E as First Officer. It is rumored that Commander LaForge is next to be promoted to the Captain's List, and has been selected to become one of the candidates to command the USS Challenger (Galaxy class).

D.) Data. Promoted to Commander in 2374 and transferred to a joint Starfleet and Daystrom Institute Research and Development project that would allow the 'Spartacian' androids to officially join the United Federation of Planets as full members, and prove that members of their race should be allowed to join Starfleet. Cmdr. Data will soon assume the position as the new curator of Memory Alpha.
E.) Dr. Beverly Chursher was promoted to Captian in 2374, and almost excepted a transfer and posting as the new head of Starfleet Medical. Instead Dr. Beverly Chrusher has decided to remain onboard the USS Enterprise E as Rear Admiral Picard's personal physician.
F.) Deanna Troi, assigned temparily to the Pathfinder Project to assist Lt. Reginald Barclay with what was feared to be a relapse of his Holo Addiction. Returned to the Enterprise E as the Ship's Counselor with a weighty letter of commendation form Admiral Paris himself, and has begun to discuss marriage plans with Captain William T. Riker.

6.) Deep Space Nine still remains as a major location in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, and Starfleet still maintains a major presence on the Station. With Sisko listed as MIA, Captain Taggart has been given command of the station by order of Admiral Ross.
A.) Fleet Captian Ben Sisko (hero of the Dominion War, and 'Emissary to the Bajoran people') is still Missing in Action, and rumored to have been assassinated by the deranged former Cardassain dictator Gul Dukat. The people of Bajor have paid alot of attention to their "Emissary's" loved ones, in fact they have made it a point to see that their every need can be taken care of (covertly of course).
1.) Kassidy Yates Sisko. Kassidy Yates Sisko, the pregnant wife of Ben Sisko still retains control of the day to day activities of her rapidly growing shipping company that has had to expand to three separate freighters in the past three months. One of these freighters (a Cardassian class Bulk Freighter) was a gift of the new Cardassain Union's government (a gift form Garak to honour everything Sisko had done for him).
2.) Jake Sisko. Jake Sisko and his step mother have taken much effort to build Ben Sisko's 'dream house' on the land he had purchased on Bajor. The Bajorian government has assisted these efforts by covering alot of the costs themselves through 'donations' by the Bajoran citizens. On a personal note, Jake Sisko's career as a writer has taken off in the Bajorian Sector, and to a limited extent in the rest of the Federation as well.
B.) Colonel Kira Nerys. Colonel Kira still pines for her lost love, Odo. And desperately seeks any information on his well being, the rumors that the Dominion has erupted into a bloody civil war has terrified her to no end. On a side note, Col. Kira is haveing to deal with the new Starfleet commander of Deep Space Nine.

C.) Dr. Julian Bashir. Bashir was to have been promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander, but things have occurred that have blocked this promotion form happening. Due to the decision that allowed Dr. Bashir to remain in Starfleet there have been several humans who had undergone Genetic Resequenceing that have been able to force the Federation Supreme Court to overturn Starfleet's ban against humans who have undergone Genetic Resequenceing or Genetic Engineering form Service. Currently, Starfleet is fighting this ruling with all it's worth and attempting to 'invite' Dr. Bashir to gracefully take the hint and resign his commission in Starfleet. But fortunately, Bashir has decided to stay and fight for his and others right to serve in Starfleet with honour and dignity.
D.) Ezri Dax. Ezri Dax and Julian Bashir have been planing their upcoming nuptials in spite of the attempts by many in Starfleet Command to force Julian to quietly resign his commission.
E.) Worf. Promoted to the rank of Commander and appointed as the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire. Worf has become deeply involved in Klingon power politics in the Klingon High Council almost the second he was appointed as the new Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire.
1.) Alexander Rozhenko. Now a Lieutenant onboard a Klingon Brel class Bird of Prey, Alexander has found his niche in the Klingon Defense Forces as an excellent Operations Officer. Lt. Rozhenko's ability to logically deduct problems and find solutions has greatly impressed his commanders where his lack of combat abilities had left them wanting.
2.) Jeremy Aster. Jeremy Aster, Worf's adopted son, has entered Starfleet and attempting to follow in his mother's and adopted fathers footsteps. But unlike their career path, Ensign Aster has chosen to follow his own path as a Sciences Officer. Ens. Aster has been assigned for his first tour of duty to scientific mission to explore the Dyson Sphere (Dyson Base).
F.) Quark. Quark remains as the proprietor and owner of "Quark's Bar" still operates as he always has. The only real changes that has occurred has been that he has been able to use his position as the head of the Promenade Merchant's Association to his advantage and gain an official voice in how the operations of the station is carried out.
G.) Rom. The new Grand Nagus has caused a major societal, cultural, and economical upheavals in the Ferengi Alliance that has caused many reactionaries to rally against him and his reforms. Starfleet Intelligence fears a corporate shadow war for control of the Ferengi Alliance that will be the forerunner of a long, and drawn out civil war against the hardliners and the reformers.
H.) Odo. While Odo did return and heal the "Great Link" he was unable to convince the entire 'Great Link' to stop it's attacks against the 'solids' and change their ways. Odo and many other Founders have been cast out of the 'Great Link' along with many Vorta and Jem'Hidar who have chosen to follow their ideals. The 'Great Link' has dubbed Odo as the 'Dark God' and his followers 'the Fallen' and ordered that the Jem'Hidar kill everyone that Odo and 'the Fallen' have touched and influenced. This single order has turned the once powerful Dominion against itself and begun a bloody civil war of major preportions where entire planets and races have been wiped out of existence.

I.) Miles O'Brien. OCS, and become a Commissioned Officer. Promoted to the rank of full Lieutenant due to his experience and ability, Lt. O'Brien was one of the first new instructors at the rebuilt San Fransico facilities of Starfleet Academy: Terra. Lt. O'Brien's lectures and classes have become known for his no nonsense and hands on style of teaching his students, and become known as one of the most popular classes on campus.
J.) Nog. Nog was promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade by Fleet Captain Sisko prior to his dispearence. Lt,jg. Nog has assumed the duties vacated by O'Brein as Deep Space Nine's Chief of Operations, but this position is precarious at best since Captain Taggart has expressed his desire that each of his department heads be of the rank of Lieutenant Commander or higher. The fact that Nog has impressed Captain Taggart with his ability to acquire necessary items for Station operation has assured him a most valued place on the station no matter what Taggart decides to do (Colonel Kira has stated that she heard Taggart mutter something to the effect that he "had a soft spot for that damned canny little Ferengi...").

7.) Chancellor Martog's attempts to reform the Klingon Empire have come up against stern opposition in the Klingon High Council, but have been well received and supported by the populace and the Klingon Emperor. This division between members of the Klingon High Council has caused much strife and friction that has caused many more problems than meets the eye.
A.) Chancellor Martog has created a new Klingon House for his close friend and ally the House of Worf. The new House of Worf has much political, economic, and social power that has granted Worf one of the most powerful seats on the Klingon High Council since it has created such a powerful political voting block with the assistance of several other Klingon Houses that had recently suffered severely under the reign of Chancellor Gowron.
B.) The return of the Druas sisters, who some how survived the destruction of their Brel class Bird of Prey at the hands of then Commander Riker, to the Klingon High Council much to the displeasure of both Chancellor Martog and Ambassador Worf. The return of the House of Druas has brought about many more problems for Martog's reforms since the Druas sisters have publicly supported many of the reforms (such as the expectance of females as equals to males in Klingon inheritance laws, and public service), while standing in the way of many other of Martog's reforms.
C.) With the the Klingon Empire's rapidly deteriorating state of affairs, many of the subject races have decided to take advantage of the losses suffered at the hands of the Dominion by the Klingon Defense Forces.

8.) Relations with the Romulan Star Empire have greatly improved with the official end of the Dominion War since a more moderate Preator has assumed the leadership of the Star Empire in the aftermath of the 2380 coup... The attempts as Vulcan Romulan Unification have failed, but they have sparked an interest in a 'reunion' as it where cultural exchanges have been supported by the Preator and those families that have formed his governing coalition in the Romulan Senate.
A.) The Tal Shiar was crippled by the joint efforts with the Obsidian Order to wipe out the Founders supposed homeworld, and has had to evolve into an intelligence gathering and counter intelligence agency at the expense of it's secret police duties.
B.) Romulan expatriots who have settled in the United Federation of Planets have been allowed to reestablish communications with their relatives who remained in the Romulan Star Empire.
C.) A stately older Romulan Senator and a Dominion War Hero begin working together to create a more open interpretation of the Way of D'era that is meant to elevate other races to the same level as the Romulans themselves.

9.) The reconstruction of the Cardassian Union continues with the Federation bearing the bulk of the bourdon since neither the Romulans nor the Klingons have the resources to spare at this time.
A.) Garak. Garak has started to rebuild the Cardassian Government as it was originally meant to be, and become the major power behind the throne as it where. He has elevated the Gul who ordered his ship to fire against the Dominion forces during the crucial battle that allowed the Alliance forces to break the Dominion Line and rush to the aide of Cardassia Prime.

10.) Bajor is not, and probably will never be, a member of the United Federation of Planets. For several reasons, they are not limited to those that follow;
A.) The new Kai has passed an edict that all Bajorans in Starfleet are to return to Bajor to become the crew of the first Bajoran built warp drive starship. Those Bajorans that fail to, or refuse to, return to Bajor are excumicated form Bajor for the rest of their lives, and if they are to break this and return they face the penalty of death for their violation of the Kai's edict.
B.) Many Bajorans see joining the Federation as trading one oppressor for another, and they fear that becoming part of the Federation will slow the economic growth they have enjoyed since the Cardassian Occupation was lifted, and the discovery of the Wormhole has brought about.
C.) Alot of Bajorans see the effects from the aftermath of the Dominion War, and the "Emissary of the Prophets" being called to reside in the Celestial Temple as a sign that the Bajoran people must step out on their own and prosper instead of being forced to rely on the aide of outsiders. These Bajorans state that when the Emissary returns, and tells them that it is the will of the Prophets that Bajor join the Federation then, and only then, will they support such a movement.

11.) There are several dissident Vulcan colonies throughout the Frontier's of the Federation where Vulcans have embraced their emotional natures instead of pretending that they don't posses them (or suppressing them). These colonies have embraced some of the pre Surak aspects of Vulcan culture.
A.) One of these colonies has become the home of a large population of expatriate Romulans who have merged with the Vulcans to create an entirely new culture that has taken the best aspects of both Vulcan and Romulan culture and evolved into an entirely new one.

12.) The United Earth Republic. Please note that Terra (the Earth) is not a single unified republic, but a federal republic where each of the individual member states still retain much of their sovereignty (primarily their rights to build and maintain colonies and military forces). Each member state has unified under a 'federal' government to act as a single voice to speak on the behalf of the Earth as a whole in a manner very much similar to that of the United Federation of Planets (in fact many observers form other races have stated that Earth has become a microcosm of the Federation itself).
A.) The Capitol of Terra is located in Geneva, Switzerland. While each state and colony maintains 'Federal Houses' that are where the day to day government business is carried out located usually near each capitol and/or major population centers.
B.) Each of the states on Terra (Earth) have kept and maintained small armed forces that have kept the traditions and histories of their respective military achievements alive and well. These armed forces are organized to operate together under the control of the Terran Defense Forces (that is in turn controlled by the Confederate Security Council). All warfare between member states has been outlawed since the formation of the Unified Earth Republic, disputes between member states is carried out through long drawn out judicial hearings and settlements.
C.) Some of the major Terran States are; the United States of North America, the European Hegemony (a coalition of the European states dominated by the Ninth Republic of France, the United Kingdom of the British Isles, and the Federal Republic of Germany), the Union of Sovereign Northern Republics, the Scandinavian Bloc, the Commonwealth of Azania, the United Arabic Republics, the United Republics of India, the Federal Republic of Australia, the Imperial Republic of Japan, the Imperial Republic of Manchuria, and the Republic of Argentina.

13.) There are an unlimited number of Parallel Universes that exist that are on par with the Mirror Mirror Universe (and i should note that mine is one of these since the Canon Star Trek Universe exists as does each of your own Trek Campaigns). A few of them are as follows since they have been 'visited' by my campaign.
A.) The Borg, Part Two. Even though the Enterprise D defeated the Borg with the aide of Captain Picard, they could not rescue the captain of the flagship of the Federation. Captain William T. Riker promotion and assignment as the commanding officer of the Flagship of the Federation was confirmed by Starfleet Command and the Federation Council. Captain Riker now commands the Enterprise E (a Sovereign class), after the Enterprise D was destroyed during the Dr. Sorin Debacle.
B.) The Mirror Universe, II. Spock did not replace Kirk, thus the Terran Empire never fell due to it becoming to weak to stand against it's enemies. But Mirror Kirk became obsessed with conquering the Universe he had glimpsed, and was able to get enough of the Imperial Starfleet High Command to follow his lead. This parallel is for a TOS Movie Era Campaign.

14.) Starfleet Battles. Some of the Races form Task Force Games "Starfleet Battles" exist in my Star Trek Campaign.
A.) Kzinti. Kzin Space is divided as follows; Kzin Patarichary (4 core systems, and 8 old colony systems). Kzin Protectorate (24 systems that had been surrendered to the Federation after the 4th Man Kzin war in 2263, admitted into the Federation as member in 2335).
B.) Lyrans. A new threat race that will be using the aftermath of the Dominion War to further their own agenda. An off shoot of the Kzin much like the Caitians, the Lryans have
C.) Hydrans. Another new threat race that will be using the aftermath of the Dominion War to further their own agenda.
D.) Cygians. In Starfleet Battles, these guys helped found the Federation. But in my setting, the Cygians are one of the first races to be invited to join the UFP, and is the location of one of the most prestigious of the Starfleet Engineering Academies.
E.) The Klingon Subject Races. The subject races of the Klingon Empire form "Starfleet Battles" exist in my Campaign as do several races of my own design.

15.) Captian James T. Kirk did not die at Veridian III, a nexus clone was the one that had fell to it's death instead. The Real James T. Kirk emerged form the Nexus several days after the crew of the Enterprise D was rescued. Six weeks later the Starfleet Corps of Engineers Salvage Teams found Captain Kirk living in the remains of the Enterprise D and brought him back to Earth where he was hailed as a galactic hero.

16.) The New Frontier Novels. While I like many of the concepts of the New Frontier, and love Peter David's writing... New Frontier has left me with a bad taste in my mouth... Here are the changes I have done.
A.) Captian Mackineze Calhoune is a Human male, who is form a failed colony (it failed because it was occupied by the Danteri).
B.) There IS NO GREAT BIRD OF THE GALAXY, nor is Morgan Lefler an Immortal.
C.) The Thallonian Alliance (ne Empire) under Chancellor Yoz is trying to reassured control on the remains of the territories of the former Thallonian Empire. Basically, how most post revolutionary governments have acted.

The major Klingon subject races include:

Dunkars: A relatively passive and accepting race who hold a position just shy of their Klingon superiors, some serving as officers.

Slidarians: A race of huge ape/bear beings who excel at ground and hand to hand combat. It is notable that the Slidarian homeworld was never conquored by the Klingons, who, after their attempts at passification, co opted and absorbed them.

Hilidarians: Bipedal (though cable of quadapedal movement) lizards, they were the backbone of the Klingon ground forces prior to the rise of the Slidarians. The resulting rivalry was severe enouge that normally the two races do not serve together.

Cromargs: The dwarf like survivors of a world devastated by nuclear war, the Cromargs are excellent engineers.

Zoolies: Literally four eyed, Zoolies are equally capable of operating in bright sunlight and dim starlight. Zoolies make up the backbone of Klingon recon units.

Vudar: A lizard like race from near the galactic edge, their space is saturated by dangerous ionic radiation. Because of the hazards and difficulties of non Vudar living in the area, they were given certain leways allowing them to self govern. This would come back to haunt the Klingons as the Vudar would make a bid for independence at the height of the General War.

Bargantines: Looking superficially like shorter Klingons, the Bargantines are adamant that they are related and seek to become more like their 'cousins.' Unfortunately, the Bargantines are utterly inept as a species to be warriors as that they tend to be timid, easily spooked, and rather small. On the other hand, they are superior farmers and Bargantines are the leading agriculturists on most Klingon worlds. Besides, the Bargantine's attempts at organizing military units provides amusement for the Klingons themselves.

Vegarians: Spider like insectoids, the Vegarians were the first former Old Kings subjects contacted and absorbed by the Klingons. Unfortunately, the Vegarians felt that they should have an equal status with them, and eventually rebelled against the Empire. The Kligons were able to quickly put down the rebellion and bombarded Vegaria back to the stone age. Vegarians were allowed to leave their world for over a century, but were brought back at the height of the General War to act as shock troops.

This is the format for detailed character profile for our game... Don't be scared that it's very detailed, you don't need to fill in all of this to start. There is alot of room to add (or subtract after letting everyone know you're removing something from your character's history) things as the game advances and you get more and more history for your character worked out.

Also considers Val’ri Spaak (nee Raiajh) her sister. The two became closer after their time jump and are and have remained close even though Val’ri retired from Starfleet in 2375 near the end of the Dominion war to become wife and concubine of the Master and Commander of the OSNS Pariah, and in Orion society are considered sisters.

Extent of Education: University of Toronto (Class of 2280)
Starfleet Academy (Class of 2284)

Religion: Pagan (practicing/semi-practicing)

Background Information:

Early Life (16 yrs):Normal Upbringing (2263-2280).
Cathryn Elisabeth Pearson was born in Thornhill, Ontario, the Commonwealth of Canada on 21 October 2263. She grew up in the Yonge-Eglington area of the City of Toronto and went to public schools. At the Age of 12 she completed her primary studies and continued her studies at the University of Toronto, where she received dual undergraduate degrees in history before entering Starfleet Academy at Age 16. Cathryn is the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters. Her parents were 17 when she was born, but continued their studies and became teachers before marrying at the age of 27 when Cathryn was ten years old.

Academy Life (4yrs) : Memory Alpha Detached Duty (2280-2284).
She entered Starfleet Academy in San Francisco, on Terra in 2280 and graduated the services division in the class of 2284.

Found to be an example of the Disciplined Defender personality archetype.

Cadet Cruise: USS Enterprise (Constitution Class, Enterprise-subclass heavy cruiser), Courier Mission (2284).
MIDN Pearson was assigned as a quartermaster (billeting and supply officer) officer onboard the USS-Enterprise for her cadet cruiser. Said cruise although supposed to be a Courier Mission ended with the cadets of the crew entering actual battle conditions when engaging and defeating Kahn Noonien Singh.

First Tour (4yrs) : USS Arcturus (Constitution-class, Tikopai-subclass heavy cruiser), Deep Space Exploration (2285-2288), Courier Duty (2368).

ENS Pearson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in 2287. She was not at first very well informed about the personal requirements of certain Federation member species; and more than once placed incompatible races in the same quarters. But she greatly improved over the years, in most part due to the instruction of fellow officer Val’ri Raiajh.
In October 2288 said ship was to travel back to 1967 and further study Gary7 however something went wrong during the time jump and the crew ended up in 2367 instead. Retrained in Sciences as Historian and reassigned back to Arcturus for a post-retraining shakedown cruise.

On 3 February 2368 Cathryn was blessed with the birth of her son, Stephen Michael Pearson. She has always been closed-mouth about the identity of the boy’s father, who was left behind in the past when the Arcturus made its ill-fated time jump into the past that became a jump 79 years into its own future.

Second Tour (3yrs) : USS Arcturus-A (Arcturus-class explorer), Uncharted Space Exploration (2369-2370).
Bridge Officer Training: 2369

Reassigned to new Arcturus-class USS Arcturus-A (NCC-1807-A) as ship’s historian with son Stephen Michael.

Third Tour (3yrs) : USS Sarek (Galaxy-class explorer), Hostile Frontier Defense; Gamma Quadrant Exploration (2370-2373).

Advanced Tactical Training: Academy Annex onboard USS Sarek, 2371-2372

She was requested as historian and quartermaster during Arcturus’ stopover at Deep Space Nine and was assigned as ship’s quartermaster and historian to Galaxy-class USS Sarek (NCC-72075).

Stephen was on board with her during this tour.

While on board the USS Sarek she took classes at the Academy Annex to retrain as a tactical and security specialist after a realization that she was truthfully not suited for the services and sciences divisions in Starfleet.

In 2371 LTJG Cathryn Pearson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Fourth Tour (3yrs) : USS Besiege (Leviathan-class warship), Dominion War (2373-2375).
Branch Officer Training: continuous while on board USS Besiege
Chief Tactical Officer 2374,
Chief of Security, Chief Tactical Officer 2375
On-the-Front (Dominion War): 2373-2375

In late 2372 when volunteers were being requested for the Federation's Leviathan Project she answered the call. What she doesn’t know is that she was specifically requested for the assignment by the original Captain of the USS Besiege, Val’ri Raiajh. Once accepted for the Leviathan Project she was assigned to the Leviathan-class USS Besiege (NCC-74326) as tactical officer and became chief Tactical Officer when the Chief of Security/Chief Tactical Officer was promoted to First Officer in 2374. She served in a tactical position through the entire Dominion War. During the war the Besiege took part in the mission that assisted the USS Defiant (NCC-74205) and the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) during the liberation of the planet Betazed from the Dominion in 2375.

The USS Besiege saw action in almost every campaign during the Dominion War.

In 2375 Cathryn Pearson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander shortly after the Besiege had escorted the renegade Defiant-class USS Corsair back to the Sol system, and her assignment as the 'minder' of vessel's commander Lieutenant Commander Konstnatine Harkonnen. She remained friends with Harkonnen since this assignment.

During the Battle of Cardassia, the final campaign of the war, Cathryn was severely injured when the primary tactical station exploded causing severe damage to the left side of her face. She remained in stasis for the trip back to Earth and transfer to Starfleet Medical.

During this tour Stephen spent his time in a boarding school on Earth, near San Francisco and spent his breaks with 'Aunt' Val'ri Raiajh. After she left Earth, he spent his time at the Spaak family estates in the Netherlands.

Between Tours: Starfleet Medical 2376
Spent all of 2376 on Earth at Starfleet Medical and at the San Francisco apartment of friend Val’ri Raiajh-Spaak. Injured in the battle of Cardassia, she suffered severe burns to the left side of her face and the loss of her left eye. The damage to her face was repaired and the eye replaced with a cybernetic implant. To disguise the implant and it’s bluish eye coloring, she wears a brown colored contact lens over it so it matches her right eye.

Once settled in the apartment Stephen remained with her there when not in school.

Fifth Tour (3yrs) : USS Besiege (Leviathan-class warship), Convoy Duty (2377-2380).
Command School: 2377-2378

She returned to the Besiege in 2377, adding the role of Second Executive Officer to her title of Tactical Officer and Chief of Security.

Stephen continued in boarding school on Earth and his summers with the Spaak family.

Sixth Tour: USS Independence (Sovereign-class heavy deterrence explorer), (2380-Pres.)

In 2380 she was promoted to the rank of Commander and transferred to the Sovereign-class USS Independence (NCC-1776-C) as the new First Executive Officer.

She is on board the ship with her 13-year-old son, Stephen Michael. Stephen has black hair and brown eyes.

A question here. For our extended profile (which I want to get working on and up, at least the preliminary version) do you want us to run the ideas we have for it by you first? Just because I have some things I kind of want to put in that may be too over the top and I don't want to be a spotlight hog or a jerk, you know?

Actually, make that two questions. I also wanted to know if you were combining the Security Chief and Tactical Officer positions like they did on TNG and Voyager. I would like that, since it would give me more to do and put me on the bridge but I thought I should get clarification before I assumed.

Since you understand the LUG Star Trek rules... That's what i use as a base outline for the character development for the profile. Just run things by me as we're creating characters so I can get an idea (we're not using the famous characters in the background... IE YOu haven't saved their lives, nor are they your contacts).

The the tactical officer answers to the secuirty chief.. So yes.. the SC will be on the bridge. :)

Ha HA! Bridge Officer, baby! One step closer to transferring to Command and getting a comfy chair of my own. ;)

I shall send you a PM then with some of the ideas I have so you can give them the thumbs up or down as appropriate. Thanks!

It looks as if we will actually have webspace for a page dedicated to the Independence! So i was wanting to know if we want to start the SRP here on Lit, or wait a little bit and do the entire thing on the webpage NIJ and I are creating...

The Website is going to be a site that uses SMS2 and is alot like the set up on Colony69.

Amphid has said that he knows a few others on Lit who might be wanting to join, so i'm asking everyone for their opinion on weither or not we should start the game now, or wait another week while we get the site set up.

I have been working on photomanips of the crew, the Security chief photomanip might be getting alot better since i've gotten a new program that I want to try out.

For me personally, I'd rather do it here to keep it convenient, you know? Rather than have one more website to go to. I know that's an argument based largely on laziness though. :D So it's no problem if I get outvoted, it's just my personal preference.

And yeah, I'll see what I can do about some others.

Just checking in here since I have not yet made a post to this thread. (Though I am subscribed already)

I have no preference for where we play.
I can pass the word along to a few others who might want to play if we need more people still.

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have added White_Rabbit as our Chief Engineer, and I've opened up the Chief Flight Control Officer position for a player.. .

We have positions for the following positions:

Chief Flight Control Officer
Chief Operations Officer
Chief Sciences Officer
Marine Detachment Commandant

So if anyone knows people who'd like to play... These positions are open as well as assistant dedpartment heads. I can give data on that if anyone needs it.

I second NaughtyinJax's statement. New players are definitely welcome! We'd be glad to have you aboard, Samantha.

Hello everyone, we will be having the new website up hopefully over the weekend. if there are others who want to join up, please have them post here to let me us know so we can get them started on their characters.

if needed i can post a list of all of the shipboard positions onboard a sovereign-class starship (all 1000 of them)

We may add a quicker way of reaching the page, but you can use this direct link.

But please feel free to set up your character logins.

Kratos, lookin' good!

I had a question about the SMS thing. On sign up, should we use our character name for our user name to avoid confusion? I'm just not sure how things will show up when posted and from what's up there now, we want the character name to be listed as the poster whenever we put something up there.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I've never used a site like this before.

Actually, that's not a dumb question at all (reminds me of the old saying "There are no dumb questions, just you being dumb because of questions you never asked"). But you might want to create a different user name than your character name, and then create your character (that way you can have more than one character)...

I've been playing with the photomanips and trying to make them better.... And will keep improving them as time goes by. and you'll be able to have your own character gallery. :)

Also, I need some help in IDing a female model that I want to use for a photomanip. i just don't know who she is so i can find a better picture to use of her.

I will continue to ask my questions that I am embarrassed about here in the hopes that they will be useful to others.

How does the joint post thing work? Since Kratos should get introduced to everyone soon-ish. Is it all written by me at once after consultation with the other authors or does it bounce back and forth between them? I don't want to step on any toes since I don't know how this site works just yet.

And will Kratos be meeting both XOs and the Captain at once or separately? I just want to get a clarification

It bounces back and forth between the players. If you wish, wish Captan Kennedy can be added in and you can meet the Captain, XO and Second Officer all at the same time. Actually it would probably work better that way.
