The National Restaurant Association published a report on Monday detailing the destructive consequences that coronavirus-related lockdowns have had on the restaurant industry nationwide.

According to data shared with congressional leadership, the NRA said that 110,000 restaurants — or about 17% of all eateries nationwide — have shut their doors long-term or permanently since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns.

"The vast majority of permanently closed restaurants were well-established businesses, and fixtures in their communities. On average these restaurants had been in business for 16 years, and 16% had been open for at least 30 years," the NRA said.

"In short, the restaurant industry simply cannot wait for relief any longer. Efforts in Washington to find the 'perfect' solution are laudable, but the lack of progress in the meantime has led too many operators to give up on the government and close down for good," he wrote. "Since our last update to you, less than three months ago, an additional 10,000 restaurants have closed nationwide."

Yet another casualty of trumps disastrous mismanagement of the pandemic....

Very sad that the Pandemic Response apparatus of the US government was dismantled by Tricky Trump and the Rethuglicans or else so many businesses could have been saved, along with so many lives.

Its almost like if we had done a few things like a hard shut down earlier and just said "fuck it" with the debt for a minute and given families enough to get by. And fuck means testing. I'm less pissed that recently deceased Koby Bryant and Chad Panther might get 2k a month than I am that Jim down the street isn't getting it.

If you look at who this is hurting the worst however, which are minorities, who are the real "First Line" (People think of nurses and the liberal media lets you think that. But who do you think is loading and unloading the trucks to get what PPE those nurses DO have [not enough mind you but some is getting there] is? Is Juan the guy you built a wall. . .well tried to get him to build) so everybody who has voted Republican in the last thirty years really thinks of Covid as crowd control.

.
The more threads this idiot starts the worse Trump and the republicans response to Covid looks.

SAD!!!

Our eight week lockdown in Melbourne did not kill off the restaurant industry. Could it be a functioning government with the best interest of everyone at heart - not just the ultra-rich - actually works pretty well?

Well thank Moscow Mitch for this he's held up the relief funding.
Don't blame Dems for lack of caring.:)
