I have a slightly strange situation where a regular commenter has started leaving summaries of my stories in their comments. Every chapter, without fail.

Now, while it's nice to have a comment, and refreshingly pleasant to be stalked (never have enough stalkers, eh) I wonder if folk read the comments before reading the work. If they do, he's basically telling them what happens in the story - twists and all. It's like a film critic leaving a review that says 'yeah, The Sixth Sense, great film - I particularly like the ending where...".

Delete or keep?

ETA: given the stability shown in his style of commentary, I could well imagine that deleting his comments, were he to notice, would result in a number of new votes added across my entire catalogue. But oh well, that's the price you pay sometimes.

Its kind of a running joke in YT that if you look at comments before the video you're going to have everything ruined, so I never do it, and I imagine there's a lot of people who don't here either.

But some do, which sucks, but nothing the site can do. The comments appear at the end of the story meaning that's when they should be read but aside from that all you can do is delete it if you think its going to ruin it for other readers.

I've noticed it a few times, but not always. Particularly disturbing when the twist is important to what's happened.

Well, I pulled his comments from the entire series. TBF it wasn't adding anything anyway. I guess I'll find out if he notices, but it's worth it because I don't want the story spoiled for others.

Just as a point of interest, do most of you read the comments first? On other people's works, I mean. I sometimes glance at them when I'm done, but rarely.

Part 1:THE MIRROR MADE HER DO IT, HA!Definitely looking for forward to more with Mirror red next salacious sexy adventure that seems just around the corner, after Mirror had a red-hot opening submission with the dirty old man at the shopping store. As her Rich date just got turned up a notch possibly, endless possibility with unexpected sexy encounters for Red & Mirror or Red are just beginning to unfold.Continue onCheers!

Part 2:Red had another sexually liberating pleasurable experience by the supposed Mirror Red (Red) with her date Steven at her hotel apartment.Although Anne showing up might answer some of her questions about the mysterious Mirror Red and potentially good lesbian good time coming up next time.Along with more sexy unexpected encounters (probably 2 young virile man DP and some black BBC)? with Red Mirror Red and possibly new friend Anne, remain to be seen? The Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the sexiest rich girl of them All. . Part 3:That answers that question about bff Anne mirror master mind controlling powers. ...etc. Just bizarre.

On occasion, about 10% of the time. Generally if the story is of vague rather than specific interest and it carries a lot of comments with a score between 4-4.5, I'll see what folk say before I read. If it's over the 4.5 mark I will usually read the first page and decide that way.

Why don't you add your own comment on the next chapter:

Hi, anon, I appreciate your comments, but please, no spoilers.

That might work.

I will admit I read comments on marginal stories like the ratings are 3.3 and there are so many others to read. UNLESS of course, I recognize the author as one whose work I enjoy. There are a few I would read if they had an initial rating of 1 (never happens). Sometimes, I will look at story tags before I read as well. They should be on the first page not the last.

1) series is finished with this chapter
2) IME any attempt by an author to 'push back', however tactfully, seems to get someone's back up. You see it all the time across many spheres where the 'entitled customer' feels their custom should be met with bowing and scraping, irrespective of their idiocy, and such folk will punish attempts to defend even if they aren't directly involved.

The tags are on the first page nowadays. Or at least, they are if you're using the newer interface.

Keep in mind there’s a “story feedback and comments portal” (https://www.literotica.com/comments/), where people (hypothetically) see the comments and can choose to go to the story.

It’s a fleeting moment, then it’s no longer on the comments portal (one to a couple/few hours tops), so it’s not like thousands of people would see the comment and go to the story. A few might but the life span of the comment portal isn’t very long.

It’s possible the commenter thinks they’re doing you a great favor (advertising for you in the feedback portal), but doesn’t realize their hard work falls off the comment portal pretty quickly.

Once it’s gone, people would have to go to more effort to read the comments first than would be worth it.

Orrrrr…. (Selfish therefore more plausible) - the commenters own account portal gives them a way to an archive of all their past comments. They’re an organized stalker.

If you know that and if you know how to find them. I'd warrant few do.
It's really not a hard system to figure out. I wonder if there's much of a generational gap involved. I can easily imagine people who got used to the old interface having no interest in switching to the new one, which admittedly has been in beta for a long time. But it certainly does address some of the complaints people have made about the site, such as the tags issue.

It's a bunch of icons at the top with no indication of what they are and no particular reason to click them; I, for one, overlooked them for some time.

I know that the age range of readers on Lit varies enormously, so much so, in fact, that I think in addition to 'votes' and 'favourites', we need a 'posthumous award' for number of people who have succumbed to heart attacks while reading each story. Only problem is that it requires their nearest and dearest to check the correct box, so might take some time to catch on.

Curiosity about what the icons are for would be motivation enough for some. I wouldn't be surprised if they're more readily comprehensible to younger readers, though, for whom emoticons and other iconography are old hat.

I personally never read comments before the story.

But hey, that's just me.

Some guy is spoiling what I thought was a well written twist. I like that he likes the story, but bruh...are you this dense? The twist hadn't even happened yet. I know it, and he thinks he knows it, even though he's actually right, I'm hoping others just think he's speculating, since it shouldn't be that obvious. He's not anon, either, I don't allow anon comments.

Some people just can't help themselves. I know if I say something, it'll make it obvious he's right. I think what I might do is when it gets to that point, which is the current pending chapter, or the next, after he gets his "ah-ha! I knew it"; despite how many have already read the previous chapters, since a new chapter is probably gonna bring new readers, I'm going to delete his first two comments. I gotta keep my artistic integrity.
