Spell Check

No worries babies, you (and your English) rock. I think you mean "conjugation" of verbs there, but I'm not sure. You're referring to changing the verb form to match the sentence, like "I am, he is, she is, we are" and so on?

Thank you Snowy ( hugs ) :rose:

No I didn't mean that, I meant instead when you have two related sentences and the verb/s of the second one have to follow in a right tense the verb of the first one .
It in latin is called consecutio and we in Italian use the latin word to define it .
I don't make any example to not worsen my position ...

Is this in the ballpark?

Click me

“Consecutio temporum (lat. `sequence of the times'; English sequence OF of tenses. - Also: Time sequence)

Regulated succession of the tense stages in complex sentences. This “relative” tense use is strictly prescribed in the Lat.: It requires in the dependent sentence, if the absolutely used verb of the main clause stands in the present, with simultaneousness of the happening Konjunktiv present, with Vorzeitigkeit Konjunktiv perfect and according to Konjunktiv Präteritum and/or Plusquamperfekt with Präteritum in the main clause.

In the Dt. strict time sequence prevails only in konditionalen sentence structures (if it desire has, comes it vs. if it desire would have, would come it vs. if it desire would have had, would be come it).”

Goodie, now enjoy this ... ;)

Thank you very much AA. I bookmarked it and I will read it with great care when I will be a bit less tired than now . It 's really late on here at the moment and my little head couldn't face a grammar lesson just now :D :rose:

So, are we the crap at the bottom, or the cream on top?

Whichever you think suits you best of course.

I usually try and spell check...but that's because I have trouble with dyslexia...

If I don't make sure it's at least understandable, no one would EVER get what I am*saying*...however, I very rarely notices if someone mistypes a word (or puts a punctuation mark in the wrong spot)...since I see letters backward, anyway...

(In this post alone I misspelled: because:becuase, what:waht, since:snice and those are just the ones I caught!!)

I have an identical problem with numbers and time on a clock face... I will almost always put a 6 before a 7 if someone is giving me a phone number, for instance.

*Sigh*

Babies you should post ore often. You, Chris, M_Wisdom, shyguy and (of course) Andante put 99% of the rest of us to shame with our grammer and spelling.

'Post and be damned,' thats my motto :p

Edit to add: the 1% includes ADR & AA

And this means what?

I've not been pointedly nasty to anyone regarding their posts. In fact, as in your case, I've pointed out when things are correct.

If I've been nasty to anyone specifically, I certainly do apologize and will be more careful in the future.

We won't go into dialects? :(

Well I can understand why, in Scotland a dyke is a dry stone wall, in England its a lesbian.... perhaps thats enough on dialects lol

AA please don't mention football, I am sick to death of hearing about the world cup, the english seem to think its only England and Germany who will be playing

And every other car is covered in England flag, its enough to make me want to move to Scotland or Wales for the duration
And I was honestly hoping that Lit will be the last refuge from football. It seems that everybody here is firmly believing the German team will win (Except the German, only the Brazilians seem to participate). And no one is talking about anything but football. Thank god I have no TV.

I haven't got a spell check yet , but I try to be accurate in my posts ( that's why I don't post so much !). It's a matter of respect towards who reads because as a foreigner on an US ( or UK) board I don't find it polite to be careless in writing and to inflict my mistakes on others .

Obviously my English construction of sentences and the" consecutio " ( I don't know how it is called in english ) of verbs sometimes are wrong with some funny and surreal effects , and I hope they are not too bothering . I am doing my best efforts to really improve .

But I like to be here and to write here so I don't worry ( too much !) anymore. b. :) :rose:
I have a big problem understanding posts in bad spelling/grammar. Especially in long sentences that are only long sentences because they are not using ANY punctuation.
I'm writing in a foreign language. It seems as if people understand that I might make some mistakes. But if they then write carelessly themselves, I can't understand anything.
It's the same when I start talking in their language to someone, they understand me, smile, and then start babbling WAY too fast, using as difficult words as they can. Only because I can speak fairly well, doesn't mean I can understand as well.

We didn't even qualify for the championships this time, but that doesn't stop the country from being obsessed by the whole thing. I'm sick and tired of it too!
As for Germanys and Englands ideas about their own qualities ....ummm.... remind me; Germany...wasn't that the country that little Denmark beat in the European Championship Finals in Sweden? And correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we seriously kick Englands butts only last summer? ;)

Enough of that! No more football, I promise! :D

I'll second everything you said! Why don't we just declare next week "German Language only" in Lit? The next week "Swedish only" for m_wisdom, then Danish, etc. Of course we would have to rely on the italians forgetting they're Italian... :p

ADR it means that most of us get it wrong apart from you and AA.

It was meant as a teasing compliment, not a pointed barb at you or AA. Sorry if it was misunderstood

You're all smart and wise and stuff. I didn't know anything about any European Championship Finals. I just know that our ladies' team rocks!
Football players got hit too many times by evil balls on their heads. Usually they aren't even remotely handsome. Why would I spend 90 minutes watching 22 mostly ugly men running around?

Dearest, you haven't been run over until you try to be courteous to a Puerto Rican from NYC. Forget word difficulty. We're talking about skipping whole syllables in the rush to get the sentence(s) out of their mouths. Piss one off and you've entered the "death by aural flash flood" zone.

I usually have no problems to understand whatever in written , careless writing ( in spelling more than in grammar ) just annoys my aesthetic sense .

However I am not in the position to make criticisms to anyone ... I wouldn't do it even with people writing in my own language .

I only get tired to read and skip on it.

Spoken English is completely another matter because I have not so many occasions to talk in English ( but the occasional work contacts or some phonecall with friends ) so I am not well trained in listening.

Moreover in English speaking countries ( as everywhere) there are so many dialectal inflexions , accents and local slangs which often constitute completely different languages that I have lost the hope to fluently understand everyone .

I only want improve my English to get to an acceptable level which allows me to communicate in an understandable way for the purposes I need. :) :rose:

On a more serious note I would say the posts made by people who do not speak English as their first language are the most coherent on the Board.

So much so I completely forget the fact that English is not their native language until a Thread like this.

I congratulate you, I doubt very much even if given the opportunity I could do the same . :rose:
