I want to create a CD for my daughter and I need help compiling a list, please.

So far I have:

"You'll Always Be My Baby"- Sara Evans
"You Can't Lose Me"- Faith Hill
"In My Daughter's Eyes"- Martina McBride

I know there are more out there, but my mind is... well... shot. I'd appreciate any help I can get. It's very important. Thank you! :rose:

... the only songs I've ever had sung to me by my nan, who raised me, were Abide With Me and There's a Place for Little Children Above the Big Blue Sky

Sometimes I wonder if she was trying to tell me something :(

1) "Will You Be My Friend" by The Roches, one of the best albums for children that I have ever heard. (I realise that I don't know your girl's age) I still listen to it, and if I start singing any song from it, my 18-year old daughter or my 15 year old son will- join in. that's how good it is.

2) "Wonder"- Natalie Merchant;
WONDER"
Doctors have come
from distant cities
just to see me
stand over my bed
disbelieving what they're seeing

they say I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as they see they can offer
no explanation

newspapers ask
intimate questions
want confessions
they reach into my head
to steal the glory
of my story

they say I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as they see they can offer
no explanation

I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"

people see me
I'm a challenge
to your balance
I'm over your heads
how I confound you
and astound you
to know I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as you see you can offer me
no explanation

I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as she came to my mother
"know this child will not suffer"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"

I hope you dance: Leeanne Womack

First time ever I saw your face: Which ever version you prefer

Lullabye: Billy Joel

Brahms Lullaby

With arms wide open
: Creed (from a Father's perspective)

Dear Jessie: Madonna

A Mother's prayer: Celine Dion

I pray you'll be my eyes
and watch her where she goes
and help her to be wise
help me to let go
every mother's prayer
every child knows
lead her to a place
guide her with your grace
to a place where she'll be safe
I pray she finds your light
and holds it in her heart
as darkness falls each night
we mind her where you are
every mother's prayer
every child knows
need to find a place
guide her to a place
give her faith so she'll be safe
lead her to a place
guide her with your grace
to a place where she'll be safe

Not specifically from mother to daughter, but how about 'My Girl' ?

'I got sunshine on a cloudy day
when it's cold outside, I got the month of May.
I guess you say, what can make me feel this way,
My Girl, My girl, Talkin' 'bout My Girl'

I like it, anyway.

Daughters by John Mayer (it references fathers and mothers)
I Hope You Dance by Faith Hill
Thanks for My Child by Cheryl Pepsi Riley
Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion
When You Say Nothing at All Allison Kraus
26 Cents by The Wilkinsons
My Wish by Rascal Flatts
Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Somebody's Hero Jamie O'Neal

Ok so a lot of them are sappy country songs... but hey...

I feel your pain, Minxie... :rose:

List s'more... it's a good idea... I'm going to do it, too

not mother to duaghter, but "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon will make you choke up- I can't sing it all the way through, there's always something in my throat...

The John Mayer song is lovely, though not addressed to the girls in particular- more to their parents.
He sang it once as a duet with Paul Simon. :rose:

All of ym suggestions have already been mentioned.... except maybe "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, and "You'll be in My Heart" from Tarzan... If you don't mind some Disney schmaltz.

It's already been mentioned, but I had copied the lyrics before I realized it so I'll paste 'em anyway. ;)

Somebody's Hero
~ Jamie O Neal

She's never pulled anyone from a burning building
She's never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She's never hit a shot to win the game
She's never left her footprints on the moon
She's never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she's just your everyday average girl (but)

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

She didn't get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she's been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life's ambition
But now her baby's movin' on, and she'll soon be missin' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin' down her face

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother's eyes
And that smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters' starin' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is

She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother's smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

Change the lyrics a little bit and Father to Son by Cat Stevens (Yusuf) is an excellent song. (although I much prefer the Ronan Keeting version.

Billie Holiday - God Bless The Child

I just love it :)

And kisses to Vana...

Thanks y'all. Keep 'em coming, please. It'll take a while to create the CD, I can't stop crying, but I will create it, along with a letter telling her how I feel about her.

I love you all. Thanks again.

This one, my love?
This angry, sarcastic, bitter and defiant song? Oh, I love it too, but- not a song i would dedicate to my daughter...

Them thats got shall get
Them thats not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets dont ever make the grade
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Money, youve got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When youre gone, spending ends
They dont come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But dont take too much
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own

Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child thats got his own
Thats got his own
He just worry bout nothin
Cause hes got his own

That woman was wonderful.

More of father/daughter than mother/daughter, but I Think About You and Butterfly Kisses both by Colin Raye come to mind.

There's also This One's For The Girls by Martina McBride.

This is actually very near perfect for what I want to explain to her, but not on this CD. I'll create another for that. Thank you! I had forgotten about it. :rose:

Not me, Vermilion. And that would be where you put the Meyer song, as well, I'd think.

Christ, honey, I am so very very sorry.

Sorry? What's going on? Am I missing an underlying story? Is everyone Ok?

And yeh Stella, you're right, that one is a bit bitter, but somehow the words don't mean as much as the way she sings it. It seems to preach self-reliance. Holiday has such a haunting, delicate voice full of so much emotion - I swear that woman could have sung a shopping list and made me cry.

Paul Simon --- Mother and Child Reunion

No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine

I can't for the life of me
Remember a sadder day
I know they say let it be
But it just don't work out that way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again

No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine

I just can't believe It's so
Though it seems strange to say
I never been laid so low
In such a mysterious way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again

But I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
When the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away

Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a moment away

Thank you. You can't know how very perfect that is.

Thank you, Vermilion. I meant to separate that out in the post to Stella earlier, but I failed to. Thank you both. You for the Billie Holiday suggestion, Stella for the lyrics.
