Clicked on my author page and found this comment. Had trouble wiping the smile off my face all day. 😊

"I had lost hope

I had lost hope there were no other authors on this site that could wrote a story that evoked emotions in me. You sir are amazing great story 5stars!!"

Sure does.

These are two comments I received for the same story:

"Different... But highly erotic, subtle and superbly written. I liked it for the change from the norm. Bravo!"

"Fuck me long, love me hard. Omigosh! Exquisite. I needed this. Again!"

These are my two favorite comments so far. It's very heart-warming when you get comments like these isn't it

"OMG That is the best written, utterly best described, most expressive fuck I've ever read. It left me exhausted just reading it. (and that was before I started page 13)
Nothing, absolutely nothing I have read on Lit compares to this story. Can I get an autographed print of it?"

"I'm always jealous of authors who can string sex scenes out across multiple LIT pages without it getting dull, and this one's pretty much a showcase of how to unleash on page 1 and just not stop. Also, I don't know if it was deliberate or accidental, but the back-and-forth exchange on the last page that starts with, '"Can you meet me tonite?"' and continues down the page until it terminates with 'Yes' makes a beautiful triangle as each thought and response gets shorter and shorter, in a sense drawing an image of how fast Reagan's heart is beating right there on the page. I can't believe something like that happened by chance, so good on you for painting a literal picture for the reader with your words. I love seeing things like this in stories. :)"

Over the years there has been a few that made my day, but they're never the "OMG you're the best' type, but the ones that show the story caused mixed emotions because it wasn't the standard type of story here. These usually are limited to my darker pieces. This is the all time best.

Definitely disturbing - verging on erotic horror, except I didn't really find it especially erotic.

Still, it's a very powerful story and exceptionally well-written - I say this without being able to decide if I actually *like* the story - it merits 5 stars even if you don't get off on the semi-nonconsensual aspects of it (she didn't feel like she had a choice, after all; she had a figurative gun to her head, and I personally don't get excited by that imagery).

Ever see a movie that had a strong message, was acted really well and still made your skin crawl? That movie probably won many Oscars; this is the short-story equivalent. Read it.

Lack of feedback

With so few readers commenting - how do you judge success?

My favorite type of comment is from a person who creates an account just so he/she can 'Favorite' a particular story. If you do something so well it makes other people go, "Well hell, I want to be able to find this one again!", that's about the highest compliment one can receive in my book. :)

Couldn't agree more! When your story moves someone to action, to take the extra effort just so they can make a comment that isn't anonymous. And even the ones that start off "I never comment here, but... "

I've had several comments where the reader thought I was writing a true biography of shared love. This makes me feel like I succeed in some small way.

From Anonymous:

What a beautiful tale of love evolving between men. I wish you and your partners all the best of luck and hope for the future!! in all honestly im very envious!!!

Sometimes one comment makes it all worthwhile

Quite agree.

I've only been writing here for a few months (only 4 stories so far :( ) but a few great comments have definitely made it worthwhile. A few examples, for a long, involved story that had a sad ending (I wouldn't change the ending, because it was based on fact):

I'm absolutely howling, fuck mate, that wasn't porn, that was a love story, with a tragic tragic fucking ending. Sure wasn't incest either. That tale doesn't belong anywhere on literotica.com, it belongs in a hard copy book, with many more chapters. A compliment? I'm not sure, but....very deep, meaningful.......and sad. A sad tragic love story. I gave you 5, because you're one hell of a writer. I think you can go further, earn a living from your writing, maybe that's why I gave you 5??

Excellent writing. The writing for this story is excellent, and paints a visual true life story. If this is as close to true as I think, my condolences.

Well written, could not put it down. What a tragic end, I hope this was not part of the true story. Either way well done.

Sweet and sexy story ruined by a terrible ending. The story was so awesome, the sex parts were arousing and some of the characters were cool. It would have been the perfect story until that terrible ending ruined it. That was awful.

I won't write any more sad stories!

BUT - the best feedback I've had is via emails. After reading my stories, some readers have relayed their own very touching stories to me. Enough to bring a lump to the throat :(

i'm guessing it wasn't a Loving Wives tale. :D

or mebbe it was! ;)

I made the mistake on my very first story to submit in the LV category. Initially I took quite a beating on the reviews. I had the audacity to write about a mfm threesome where the two men had contact  But over time it has stabilized at 4.25 to 4.5 and has accumulated several nice comments. (That story will probably take a hit as soon as I post this...but I no longer care very much :nana:)

I don't plan to do Loving Wives again though ;)

Haulover, Congrats for the great start !!! A hidden talent you had and were able to share thanks to Literotica. After reading those comments, I'll be forced to go read a story now ;)

Many thanks!

To the OP's point, I definitely agree that a few comments (or emails) showing that you've connected with a reader can be very gratifying.
